***ArmA 3 Thread***

Hope this is better optimised than the second, it's so irritating having to put everything on low / med with a GTX 680 and an i5 750 @ 3.6Ghz.

GPU never exceeds 40% usage, it's just sat there doing nothing it seems.

Mine runs fine with everything max apart from AA and post processing disabled @ 1920x1080...

Never, ever.

BIS don't sell out. In fact look what happened when Codemasters split and BIS decided to go it alone. Codemasters took the Operation Flashpoint name with them, dragged it through the mud, stamped on it a few times then wiped their backside with it. Giant fail.

BIS developed ArmA 1 and 2 and the rest is history (and the future, with ArmA 3 :))
 
Well I was waiting for that mini sub in A2, it was a mod destined for A2 a little time back. Also there was a diver mod for A2:eek:. Think BIS have been having a look around the modders and bringing some into the A3 fold.
The video isn’t bad, the stance is good and the animation seems a lot better, not as good as BF3 however yet, from what I have seen on YT. There are a couple of movement mods for A2 at present that help stance and movement a little, still, the new midway crouch and pop up looks good in the vid. The vehicle anims seem light years ahead of A2 with the PIP, thats really nice. Closest we have to that at present is possibly 'blakes mirrors' mod which works really well in A2.

I would prefer them not to have set it in the early evening sunset, as A2 can look just as good in the right lighting, would like to see it in straight forward daylight as previous vids have looked as though they were still working on the overall look of the game when it was in pure daylight, did not seem that far ahead of A2, so still a bit in the dark there (no pun intended).
The night time scenes are good, the rifle light is better than the present one, the explosion models/animations are not that far ahead of some of the present A2 Ace ones, still its not finished yet. The ground coloured lights in the vid before last, are available for A2 (ASC_EU-Lights), they really do make A2 surrounding light effects look good. Also in that vid the new vehicle lights for A3 are great, far better than the A2 ones.

I am really looking forward to A3 and hope it fulfils expectations. I will buy it, as I have a new pc waiting for it, but I may be tempted to leave it a few months to let some of the more silly bugs, that seem to filter through, get ironed out..

Will they sell out ?

Until we see the new game who know's, its not them selling to console, don't think that will happen yet after last time. Just hope it doesn't turn out to be a FPS (BF3) style fest...

Still as long as they keep that 'Editor' in I'm happy.. That and the communities mod makers are going to have a ball..:D

I'm hoping that because arma 3 is using a modified arma2 engine. A lot of that bug testing and maturing from arma2 will carry over. Sure there are massive new features in there that will need lots of testing too. But I think compared with arma2s initial release this will be more stable. Though not without its own bugs. A long alpha/beta phase that isnt just pre release demo will be vital for that. And then we have to wait for ACE (if they feel the stock game isnt up to scratch realistically) to develop and bug test... thats still ongoing now :P

I think I remember hearing somewhere if you put the settings to high it uses the graphics card more, so bizzarely the fps can increase if you raise the graphics settings.

Might be worth a try to check gpu usage.
 
For shadows this is true. very high shadows uses the GPU rather than the CPU (high and below) and thus can give improved FPS. I'm unaware of that being the case with any of the other settings though.
