***ArmA 3 Thread***

I like the dual red dot + optical scope the rifle has, always felt a bit vulnerable having to make an either/or choice.

Anyone know how they're handling the community alpha? Is it an open alpha or keys only?

ACE implements this on some optics in ArmA2 already! A feature i struggle to manage without now! Glad to see it becoming a part of the base game, same with the stamina.

Very nice.

Couple of observations:

They still haven't managed to get the sound of a minigun right. You shouldn't be able to hear the individual rounds being fired. Sounds like they've just recorded the sound of a round being fired and repeated it very fast. Should be more like a "fuzzzzzz" sound.

The physics improvements they speak of are noticeable, but, if you look at the way that vehicle comes off the road over that crest, it looks like they've got rid of gravity. It just slowly floats off the ground.

I’m sure I heard 2013 mentioned for release, would not be surprising really.

The game is looking good, seems they have taken a few of the great mods for A2 and enhanced them for A3, which is a credit to them. The tone of the chat being used by the BIS chap there perhaps suggests a slight calming down of expectations, more towards expect improved ‘everything’ but don’t expect a completely new type of game.
This in my view is good news, for example I think they are doing a change similar to OFP - Arma – Arma2 – Arma3 progression rather than complete overhaul which at first I may have thought, sort of over towards FPS type game (BF3), which would have damaged the series, I think. So that’s good news for me, progression is far better than complete renewal, suppose it may come down to using the same engine as A2, that’s good, there is a lot that can be done with it.

Hope they leave it till its ready rather than rush it out, I can wait, although my new pc that’s stood here waiting for it, will probably be out of date by the time its out:eek:, still never mind.. :(

Agree with comments regards some of the sounds, but that will get sorted I dare say. And yes, we need more gravity not less in Arma..

Looking at it I think my A2 pc would have run it ok..;)

Overall great, thanks for posting the clip; @lurkio..:)

They've said they're moving from physx 2 to 3 and the values for weight and such are not final but place holders, I agree something like that shouldn't bounce around off the ground :D

Surprised they still haven't defaulted to a weapon rest system but added extra firing postures, hopefully they still do because it's something I hate the lack of and we'll have to wait for A.C.E modders no doubt.

Well Arma 3 is set for 2013 now according to the BIS forum site, with a community Alpha version (tester) 'rumoured' around August this year, maybe.
I thought it may be pushed back, especially after DayZ became so popular and took A2 sales back up again. I know that it probably took the heat off them to get it out this year, which may be a good thing.

Just looking on the Arma 3 forum (bis forum), the 'Min' System requirements seem to be very reasonable. I know these are minimum specs and that the ‘Recommended’ specs have not been announced yet.
But given that these specs be taken with a pinch of salt, keeping in mind we want to play the game at High-V High settings, and I am sure these specs won’t do that, however, any thoughts on these specs ?

Is Arma 3 actually going to be better, easier and more possible to run than A2 was, when first released ?

Taken from Arma 3 section of the BIS forum:
GAME REQUIREMENTS Minimum:OS: Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1CPU: Intel Dual-Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHzGPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT or ATI Radeon HD 3830 or Intel HD Graphics 3000 with Shader Model 4 and 512 MB VRAMRAM: 2 GBHDD: 15 GB free spaceDirectX®:10Recommended:N/A

I'm still of the mind that because A3 is heavily based off the A2 engine that the vast majority of the last however many years patching and stability fixes will push arma3 to be a far more polished first release. Its more like ArmA2+1 than a whole new ArmA3 engine etc. If you get what im saying here >.<

I'm sure it will have its bugs but a long alpha/beta period. Heavy and good development already implemented and tested with ArmA2. And delayed development for spit and polish should hopefully give us a playable release game.

Shame ACE3 will turn that on its head :p

It looks fantastic and I'm very impressed that Dayz will be (reasonably) easy to port over.
I've always loved Arma and Operation Flashpoint, something about the realism and difficulty that gives you a certain sense of achievement.

I've always loved the games right back to Operation Flashpoint right through to ARMA 2 including all the expansion packs & Arma 3 is looking EPIC, I have a few things on my wish list, like better AI (in all aspects AI driving and flying has always been woeful), being able to shoot while riding vehicles & please please please let the 3D editor actually work this time out.

please please please let the 3D editor actually work this time out.

Very good point, I used the other '3d mod' editor for a while (can't remember what it was called, still have it on my storage drive somewhere), it didn't work too well for some reason. So like yourself, I would like to see the 3d editor built-in..;)

Is this just a online game? or a decent solo as well?

If you like war type games, then this is the best. However it takes time getting into, but once your into it you won’t buy any other games of the same type.
The mp or playing as a group of friends is without doubt a great experience, using teamwork is key and very rewarding.

I make missions in the ‘Editor’, so have not ever bothered with any arma series solo campaign, sounds odd, but the ‘Editor’ is the games crowning glory imo, I play as part of a small group (around 30 of us), I and a couple of other members of the group make the missions, we then play them as teams against each other, gaming at its best..

There are a vast amount of mods available (over 400) for the arma series and these include around 150 islands/maps that can be used with A2, so you can have a lot of choice as to where to set missions, if your into mission making that is.

Arma 3, when it comes out, will be modded to a similar level, I have no doubt. Its a game that is being eagerly waited for by a large community.
