Surely...an open call to Sweden asking them to not extradite him IF he cooperates and travels there for rape allegation questioning.

A large anti climax really. He rallied so much momentum in his build up to this speech and he fluffed it.

He's just demanded that a soldier who betrayed his country despite an oath he took to defend it, and despite knowingly committing an incredibly serious crime against his country be released?!?!

That would be a completely riduclous thing to do and would irepairably damage diplomatic relations with other countries across the globe.

Na, the problem is that some country such as China or Russia might be a bit annoyed if they did it.
It would be a dumb idea anyway considering the UK has an embassy in Ecuador.

It would have MUCH wider repercussions other than upsetting Ecuador. It would destroy our international status with most/all countries.

The threats to enter were just that, threats, designed to try and scare them to kick him out. They called our bluff. As much as I believe we should be able too get him out as they are harbouring a suspected rapist, we're not going in any time soon and rightly so.

It's REALLY frustrating, but that's just the way it is.

Don't you get it? I'm not talking about Ecuador. Once you set a precedent that your country can and will find ways around the Vienna Convention if it deems it neccesary, then it becomes about far more than just one country.
