Assassin's Creed IV- Black Flag

If you're happy with the framerate, then use whatever your gfx card/s can cope with :)

You can always lower it if you find the gameplay isn't as smooth later on in the game ( I'm assuming bigger battles / set pieces )

Just started playing this last night after a pretty swift download through Uplay (stayed static at around 4.4MB on my Infinity connection). Playing on my 780M equipped laptop at high in game settings (SSAO/ FXAA but all other settings as high as they will go) returns around 50-55FPS average (1080p). I havn't tried the latest Nvidia drivers yet so perhaps there is a little more performance to be had.

This is the first AC game I have owned since parting with AC1 way back on the 360. I am quite liking the setting and the overall gameplay although I keep forgetting that you don't have to jump to climb walls you just hold R2.

This game is poorly optimized for pc. I just about get 30fps..

I had to make a couple of driver level tweaks in control panel to get smoother gameplay.

- Single Screen mode.
- Prefer Maximum performance power mode.
- Change vsync to adaptive.

I have a 690, and even then, this is the first game I've had since I bought the card that I've had change a couple of things to max it out.

I had an Xbox 360 Skull edition and it looked awful in comparison to the Nvidia P.C version I got off a mate for ordering and helping build his new rig and the bonus is it works really well with the Xbox controller so I can chill out on the sofa and get all the graphical goodness and quick load times! I'm getting huge anount of screen tearing on the cut scenes, vsync off, ssao, fxx and running it on high.

My 780 is should not be struggling here, games needs some more optimisation. No wonder it was delayed at release.

Okay, just did this in the control panel as its now much smoother. Ta

Vsync is your issue. And a lot of other peoples. The in-game vsync will cause your framerate to jump between 30 and 60. Without it on you will get a lot of screen tearing. Use D3DOverrider for the best of both worlds. You get a smooth framerate probably sitting around 50-60 and you get no screen tearing. My 780 is now running this very nicely, with most things on. Also, enviromental quality on very high is a huge performance killer - ensure it's on high.

I am using 4xmsaa at the moment but may try the one you said(guy deleted his post? :p)....it seems though it kills fps totally in this which is a shame.Either way msaa/csaa best ones to use as fxaa blurs somewhat same with txaa.

Interesting game, though ship combat is relatively basic, it's still awesome. Not too far into the game I just decided screen it, I'll run at a 3 higher level frigates and a man of war, this was way before I'd upgraded most stuff, but fighting in between a big and small island, some hunters turned up, I was about one hit from stopping the last ship after a ridiculously long battle. It is fun for sure, the real world stuff as people have mentioned is crap and for some reason has an awful fov, is really jerky and odd. It's really jarring due to how badly it's been done.

I am finding I spend way way way too much time in the boat blowing crap up, and really not much time doing missions.

Coming across a couple man of wars mid battle was pretty cool, came in mid fight and got blew them away. Probably the best battle, was a huge skirmish I got into not far into the game with the first real storm at see, the squals, and the twisters, was awesome.

The water is really amazing, the blending of colour as it hits the shore is impressive, as is if you're swimming back to your boat looking through the waves with varying levels of ability to see through the water, it's incredibly impressive.

The only thing missing is waves on shore. You can stand on a beach with a rough ocean and the waves don't hit the shore at all, they just stop a certain distance out, apart from that the ocean looks fantastic.

Out on the sea its a constant 60-62fps, in crowded towns its anything from 40-60.
This is all maxed out apart from godrays on low as i think the high setting is too much and i prefere the look of low. 4xMSAA too.
Beautiful game and having a blast on it. Screen tearing is the only downside.
