Assassin's Creed Odyssey

You just have to remember W3 came first and the AC games have clearly taken inspiration from it. It still holds up well today on every level yet it's years old.

Frankly, I was disappointed by some of its elements and clunkiness at release so I wouldn't be so sure it holds up well for me. Many of those flaws were glossed over because, hey it's Witcher. It was a very decent game but the main story was badly handled and needlessly drawn out and it was hyped to no end. If I didn't like it back then, and it's the game's main selling point, then I obviously won't think much of it now.

It did came first and served as an inspiration for AC but AC is still it's own thing with parkour, historical settings etc. it's just more fun overall, albeit still flawed.

And it's actually CD Project who should be inspired by Ubi on how to make an epic, interesting map without hubs:p

Imagine what they could create if the two teams of developers merged ! :D

With Ubisoft's budget it could be one hell of a game.

I decided to look back at my W3 posts in the thread - I certainly seemed to moan about it plenty. I forgot about the constant patches, some of which were game breaking. These AC games have been surprisingly polished given the scale.

Well, I took the plunge and after it refusing to load from start up - apparently, MSI afterburner is the issue at launch but not when you load the game and then run it after that, so WTF - and after some tedious UPlay or whatever, the game is actually very, very fun. Like, REALLY fun. I have no idea how the map works which is annoying me because this is my first AC and I'm sure it is ingrained in not-new-to-series-players but I've got zero idea where to go and the indicators are awful.

You get map markers for most quests depending on what game mode you choose in the game options. So go with 'Guided' for map markers, or 'Exploration' if you just want 'hints' as to where to go and no map markers. Even then there are lots of side quests that won't have map markers whatever mode you choose. i.e Kill X amount of things across Greece etc.

I seriously love SPARTTTAAAA Kicking enemies off high mountain/rooftops etc to their deaths. I just wish the game would autoloot before I did this because my grins end up vanishing when I realise I have to climb back down to loot their body :D :o

It never gets old! At least you don't die if you jump down, so it makes it a bit quicker.

I often do it when going into a fort - I can either assassinate them or Sparta kick them off the edge. No brainer :D

Also find the big boot to be very handy. Does anyone know if the higher levels of the ability kick further or just do more damage?

It does more damage (upto 250%) at the top level but I don't think the kicking distance changes.

On another note, I am a tad confused as to how the 'Wanted Bar' works in this game. I thought that if I have say 3 bars full on the meter that Mercs would hunt me down but half the time they just run past me saying a few threatening words? Hell I've walked through some towns with a full bar and a merc (something toad) didn't even attack me. I do go out of my way hunting them tbh but I doubt that would influence another mercs actions, after all a bounty on my head is just that. Come to think of it, the last merc to actively hunt me was that Talos bloke when I was like Lv2-3 at the start of the game!

How is Ring of Chaos on max level? I would imagine that when maxed is extremely potent, like multiple Sparta kicks. Found a Legendary Spear which does 20% extra damage with that ability so should be pretty powerful maxed I would have thought.

Saw this tip over at Ubisoft Odssey forum and thought I share it with you here, incase someone not aware of it (I wasn't, but then again only level 13 still and only have 1 pcs Legendary !) :p

Helpful Information for Auto-Leveling Legendary Gear

I've seen this info posted on some other threads talking about gear, so I figured I'd go ahead and just make a separate thread for this so everyone sees it.

Some quick points to know that can save you a TON of resources and time if you haven't already leveled up some legendary gear:

1. Legendary sets auto-level up once you complete the set. It goes to your level, not the final piece's level. So if you're level 45 and the final piece is 47, the rest goes to 45, not 47.

2. The rest of the set MUST be in your inventory when you obtain the final piece. If you have just one piece missing/stored on your ship, the gear will not auto-level. Even if you go back and get the last piece, they all remain the same level. So make sure you have all of the other pieces in your inventory before going after that final piece.

3. This only applies to armor, not weapons. So if you complete the Achilles set and have Achilles' Spear in your inventory, it will not level up with the rest of the gear.

This is extremely helpful, since most sets cannot be completed until you reach mid-high 40s in level. I had legendary braces that were level 11, and now they're level 47. That saved me a bunch of drachma and resources with just that single piece. Now you won't have to spend a fortune/grind for hours to level up multiple gear sets.

I'm away currently so cant verify this but I did read that something went a bit wonky in one of the patches which has affected how often the mercs hunt you down, prior to me being away from home I was getting hunted damned near constantly, often by multiple mercs at the same time, so if that's not happening now then it would seem that something did break in a patch.

Hmm interesting! I'll have to look into this as I am concerned I'll finish the game before a fix arrives. It isn't much fun having a 3-4 head bounty bar, and walking past mercs in towns when you know they should be hunting you.

As far as I understand the merc system - however many bars your meter is full that's how many will take the contract to hunt you. They show as red helmets on the map and will attack you on sight. They will come and find you if you are visible to other npc's. Any other mercs you come across will show as white helmets on the map and will ignore you. Otherwise you would be in real trouble if high level bounty hunters came for you.

Ok that helps. As odd as it is I am bugged I would say. I currentlly have 4 bars on the meter and I can see 3 white helmets nearby on the map around Arkadia. Not seen a red helmet in a long time so I guess I do have issues. Cheers.

Boarding a ship and sparta kicking the captain off into the sharks is a golden gaming moment, it'll never get boring :)

A bit random but I was attacked by a Chicken whilst on my way through a Village to a map marker. I had to stop and do a double take :D

Also regarding the Sparta Kick are there some enemies that it doesn't affect ? I was fighting a Merc and it didn't do a damn thing. Maybe the ones that don't flinch are immune ?

Think I have done 85% of the question marks now (ones which are not quest linked :o) so many forts and military camps!

Also as a side note, would keep an eye out when on the sea. There are some smaller islands which are not at all shown on the map and just appear as water, but there is some nice legendary weapons on at least one of them.

I still intend to do some intensive seafloor searching when I get the chance to play properly again, I thought Dr Whos Tardis on the seafloor in Origins was hilarious.
