Assassin's Creed Odyssey

A bit random but I was attacked by a Chicken whilst on my way through a Village to a map marker. I had to stop and do a double take :D

Also regarding the Sparta Kick are there some enemies that it doesn't affect ? I was fighting a Merc and it didn't do a damn thing. Maybe the ones that don't flinch are immune ?

Once you spot a merc, send up the eagle to see who it is, then go into the merc tab and find them, you can then find out what’s their strength and weaknesses..

Yeah I always do that. The one I was fighting had the 'does not flinch when attacked' so I guess that Sparta kick doesn't work on those ones which is a bit weird.

I have had the Sparta kick fail a few times, I assumed it was blocked, or resisted, or the foe was too heavy which is why I asked if it got more powerful at higher levels as just doing more damage means nothing in the context.

I find with fighting mercenarys is to climb onto a building (if one near) and fight them on top with a few well place kicks it does a fair bit of damage when they go flying down.

Haven't played this in a week or so due to work and I'm quite rusty in combat. One thing I seem to have developed is a problem switching from bow to melee, during a fight I can't get rid of my bow! what am I doing wrong ?

Visited all the question marks (aside from quest related ones) and unlocked the whole map. Got to say, wayyy too much copy and paste for my liking, kind of wish they made it smaller like Origins which I recall had much more variation in things like caves and tombs etc.

what the best version of this to buy to get the most in game content, standard, delux or gold, or some other ?

They all have the base content at the moment in terms of missions. Deluxe offers some item goodies rather then quests. Namely some gear, cosmetic item and 2 hour boosters for gold and XP. But you get new gear so often and level anyways so will not make big difference.

Gold however has the season pass as a package which would be a nice option if you envisage playing any DLC that comes out which saves you few quid buying separate.

Was a pre-order bonus with a small quest "The blind prince" but can now be picked up for a few quid with any of the versions AFAIK.

Well I got one of the major game questlines done and dusted and I am quite pleased with how it panned out. Since my wife is back tomorrow I'll have less gaming time so I'm glad I made a lot of progress today! :o

Respect for doing that. I hope you don't get burnt out now that you're progressing through the storyline having seen all the sights. Yes there is a brick ton of design repetition going on and the more you explore, the more you really do notice it. At 95% completion I can safely say that Origins had a tighter, more cohesive world. Things looked unique from city to city most of the time and the feeling of similar game design really wasn't present - since I only played Origins a few months ago it is still fresh in my mind so I remember it vividly.

I think Ubisoft really played it safe here and removed a lot from Origins, in order to fit additional game features in that I cannot mention. I think Ubisoft Quebec made Odyssey and Montreal are the truly talented outfit. What you end up with is a game where you miss the smaller things that made Origins somewhat enjoyable - for example:

1. Hunting animals and seeing predators come out at night.
2. Better weather cycles.
3. Expanded use of Tombs (Odyssey ones are less imaginative than Origins!)
4. Poor Arena usage vs Origins
5. Avenging other players deaths.
etc

I could go on but at the end of the day Odyssey is still an excellent game overall. Players will be comfortable in either Greek or Eygptian eras.

As I've said, I still think Origins is better in terms of setting and actual world layout. A truly incredible map and one of the most enjoyable exploration experiences I've had in gaming.

Odyssey has many beautiful places and still nice variety etc. but it's just not the same.

I agree, I think what Ubisoft did with Eygpt was a probably the best ingame RPG worlds I've ventured through in a good while. Hell I felt compelled to complete every area and I ended up buying the DLC's because I wanted more. At the end of the day I'd still rate Odyssey very high regardless because of the Isu/First Civ stuff (amongst other things), which I feel is done better and I haven't even finished it yet!

Did indeed get burnt out towards end, but I know OCD in me will get sidetracked going to new areas anyways :p

I kind of wish I just did chapter 2 as I could have actually unlocked perks from the onset, would have made cleaning the world easier!

But yeah agree with a lot of what you said. Odyssey improved a number of things, but a step or two back in other spots. Hopefully next one takes the best of both games.

Completed all the main quests now and enjoyed it. Was different enough from Orgins to be enjoyable.

Between this and orgins I would still go with Orgins as the better game.
