I`ve not read anything about a fix yet.

Nothing about the 850 being affected either (although I think it would be sensible to avoid the 850 EVO until there is some independant clarification that it won't suffer from similar issues.

There are a couple of articles that mention the problem. I think it's clear that there is a problem, but is seem to only affect certain 840 EVOs. Here's how mine's "progressing".......

Mines actually benchmarked better a week on from when I posted before - nothing really changed on that system aside from an update to eve online - infact its mostly been off. Still got a spike down in the same place down to about 470MB near the start but the bit before it is back to 520+MB/s and the rest is a slightly straighter line than before at about the same speed.

When I tested it a couple of days ago, I actually saw slightly improved results. However, the downward trend continues.

I suppose we now have to wait and see what Samsung say/do.

This is going to damage their reputation if they don't sort it properly this time, and fairly soon.

mines quite a new 840evo and has the problem, not showing quite as bad as urs but still annoying, i have a 850evo being sent to me which is why i asked lol maybe i should get something else as well
i didnt erase mine before doing the fix im not sure if that has anything to do with it or its another reason, like a bad batch!?

either way i cant afford to go erasing the drive right now i have work i do!!
:(

i posted my results on the 1-2-15, do you want me to re do my tests to compare?

i did a secure erase 5 days ago (week Sunday) and installed windows 10.

one ssd was brought in 2014 (june) and the other was brought jan 2015.

It seems to take about 4 or 5 weeks before there's a noticeable drop in performance.

I`ve secure erased and restored a couple of times. I start off by checking performance about one a week, then almost daily when the problem appears.

The best thing to do is to send your results to Samsung. The more people that do this, the more seriously they'll treat the problem (hopefully). They did seem to "ignore" the problem with the older 840 non-EVOs. My opinion of them as an SSD manufacturer is slowly reducing (like the performance of my SSD !).

I think we all should be compensated with an 840 pro :D;)

i have one of them too! i wouldnt mind 2 instead
but yeh this isnt good enough, i think the review sites have been pretty good on it, i dont blame them for this one, they did go out their way to expose it

samsung should have tested these drives more, or maybe they did and put it down as acceptable risk, its not acceptable to me its annoying its wasted any of my time!!! lol

I think they should just get on with sorting the problem. If it means replacing the faulty SSDs, fine. If they can fix it with firmware, that'll be OK.

I hope they learn from this. And if it is a problem with TLC NAND, they sort it or stop using it.

I've stopped using my Evo as I've finally got around to using my Intel 730. It's sat in a cupboard waiting to see what Samsung are going to do about it.

Am running a program called DiskFresh. Will post back with test results compared to my previous.

http://www.puransoftware.com/DiskFresh.html

I didn't do a lot of research on it to be honest, just saw enough reassurance that the writes it performs won't massively degrade the lifespan of the SSD if used quarter-yearly (the program comes with option to automatically perform this every quarter). So please do read and consider before using it.

So yeah, much smoother and better average, but interestingly it doesn't reach the maximum speeds it did previously (other than the spike at the beginning). Wonder if that's simply to do with keeping it smooth (program finds the average quickly and keeps it that way). Don't know.

here are my results after 1 week of doing a secure erase and putting on windows 10.

SSD brought Jan 2015 - secure erase done on 1-2-15

I've had to use Disk Fresh on my drive to get the performance back to normal and I've noticed the same issue that while performance has increased, it isn't quite as good as when I first had the drive.

A little update.

Thank you for your email.

At the moment there is no plan to release a new fix, but a lot depends from our tests.

As soon as we have news I’ll contact you, anyway if you can monitor the performances will be great for us, so we can compare with our tests results.
