Assistance - Calling all Samsung EVO owners

Need to manually update to 4.6

I've posted an alternative link to it a couple of times. I uploaded it myself.

Used your link to update, thanks, it still says the old firmware is up to date.
This is a stunning fix from Samsung - so disappointed with them.

Gettinng performance issues on my PM851 m2 drove which is essentially the same as the 840 evo. Unfortunately the performance restoration tool doesn't recognise it and theres no firmware update, will disk fresh help?

It is surprising how things change over time. I remember when the Samsung 830 was one of the most reliable SSD drives around at the time. Now it is the complete opposite not only are the competition making better drives they are also at a lower cost especially crucial SSD`s

I updated to 4.6 couple of days ago but it took until this morning for the new firmware to show as available.

After the firmware update:

After the 'Advanced Performance Optimisation':

(I'm only on SATA2 of course)

So, I'm happy for now, but will continue to monitor and if there is any hint of further issues then I'll be pushing very strongly for refund or replacement with a model which is not affected.

Was not getting an update notification even though I was on latest magician(was the version linked to previous not from Samsung site)

After I installed the latest version from the Samsung site about an hour ago the update to the firmware showed up

So to get the firmware update you must have the 4.6 magician from the Samsung site that is on there now....my conclusion anyway :)

Unbelievable - I've installed the new Magician 4.6 version (from the alternative download location) and it does not come up with an option to upgrade to the latest firmware (says I am on the latest).

Could this mean that they have pulled the new firmware already? Or have they run out of bandwidth for the firmware downloads as well as to download Magician?

I presume that there is no separate firmware download available (i.e. only option is for Magician to download it)?

Same here, it says i'm on the latest firmware but i'm not. Annoying. :/

If you can clone the data on it, secure erase and then write the cloned image back - it will only be temporary though - a few months later and performance will start to noticeably degrade again.

Nope - I downloaded 4.6 from the link which bledd provided through mega.co.nz and my ability to download the new firmware eventually came through this morning (after a couple of days).

They are obviously limiting the number of downloads of the firmware through Samsung Magician in the same way they are limiting the downloads of Magician itself.

Immediately before and after doing the update:

Older images for reference - one a couple of weeks or so after the last update and one about a month ago or so:

(The benchmark at the very top of the first image and the one at the very bottom aren't that long apart so performance has gone from some bits starting to get slightly ropey to wholesale starting to drop off a cliff in quite a short space of time after being mostly OKish for awhile - not totally surprising that a lot is starting to go at the same time as I cloned and rewrote the entire drive after the last update and aside from a windows update and a couple of game updates the drive has been mostly unchanged since).
