** ASUS DO IT AGAIN: IPS, 144Hz & FREESYNC!!! Asus MG279Q thread **

Hi theor14, thanks very much for the pictures - it is very much appreciated.

I'm really super-interested in getting this monitor but have cold feet about a couple of things - namely the jump up to 1440p and a 27" screen.

What do you think to the resolution - do you think it makes things 'too small' or gives 'too much' space?

Did you come from a smaller monitor previously? I've currently got a 24" monitor and I am worried about a 27" screen being 'too big' for gaming when it is only sat a few feet away from you (i.e. I don't want to pan my head around to see the edges of the screen).

Many thanks for any subjective views in advance! :)

Curtains drawn, light off, door shut 100% brightness.
My iPhone is making everything seem pretty bright lol, low light performance is about too good lol.

Thanks theor14, that's actually not bad. When you use 28% brightness, does it seem bright enough?

Aw man I want this monitor.

But why does purchasing a £500 monitor has to feel like walking into a casino and hope for the best? In this modern age and time this is ridiculous!!!!

Agreed, it does appear to be a bit of a gamble at the moment.

How much of a technical hurdle is the 90Hz limitation for Freesync on this... i.e will we soon be seeing other panels that can do much better? Same goes with the blur reduction. Have Asus cheaped out on this, or are they simply currently limitations of Freesync technology?

I came from a 1080p 24 inch screen, I think 1440p 27inch is actually ideal, things are big enough to easily see without scaling and it's actually easier to real due to the extra sharpness and IPS display.
I also sit very close to the screen, you do need to move your eyes a bit more to see corners but I had no problem gaming, I'm not super competitive like I was a few years back though so it may have bothered me then but I'm perfectly happy with the size now.
Extra space is appreciated as I do work on the screen also and as I'm a student is my main display for TV and films too.
Only caution I would give is 1440p is harder to drive games at and 1080p input is not as sharp as on a 1080p panel that is 24 inches so you will want to run native 1440p where possible.

Thanks very much for the additional comments :)

Yeah the extra GPU requirement did have me worried - I currently have an overclocked MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming edition so I think i'll be good for around 60fps-ish in most games from what I have read (about a 1/3rd reduction in fps vs. 1080p).

I am, however, intending on countering this by getting a Radeon R9 'Fury' X (whatever it finally gets called) which will be revealed at E3 today.

Early indications are saying it will be around x1.6 the performance of a R9 290 X - ideal for high getting 100fps at 1440p off one card I recon :)

In response to the brightness question
28% is fine for artificial lighting, with lots of natural light 40% is more suitable in my opinion. 100% is blindingly bright to look at so the monitor covers all bases.
In response to freesync question.
Asus said 90HZ was the best they could do, I think blur reduction could have been implemented but considering the price it's a fair deal I think.
I can't see any better freesync panels on the near future considering how they are all delayed and takeing ages to be released its obviously somewhat of a chalenge to get right.
I think 35-90 is a decent VRR window, if your playing latest games above 90HZ at 1440p you have some serious system.

290 will do 1440p/60 if you are willing to turn some graphics options down a little, I will buy a new Amd 'fury' card too which should be great at 1440p

You can actually try running 2560x1440 on VSR with the 290, to give you an exact idea how your 290 will handle that res rather than guessing.

You'd be surprised how well would the 290 handle 2560 res, with the exception of may be Crysis 3, and some Nvidia titles.

The use of AA for 2560 res is NOT really an absolute necessity.

Anybody got this monitor using a GTX 980Ti? I need a new screen and there are no reliable GSync IPS screens out yet. (Quality control seems to be an issue)

I was looking at this or Asus MX27AQ.

I am not a competitive online gamer, just GTA 5 or Witcher 3 etc

Hello guys,

I'm new around here. On Saturday i received my monitor ( did not buy it through OUK), it is working well and i like it quite a lot. However while surfing through this thread i noticed another guy had an issue with monitor bleeding.

I decided to do a similar test and this is what I have:

So far while I've been gaming, watching videos or regular use I have not come across any noticeable bleeding. It is only visible when doing the above test.

My question is; Do you think it is appropiate to ask for a replacement?

Thanks in advance

I realy want to say thanks to baddass and to all of you who sent that pictures.

But can someone post some photos in really dark room ? Like this one, that looks really bad. http://imgur.com/enO7OeX

And do it as jimhaumman just said "Record monitor on the camera and then do a photo of that display".

It would be great !

Hello, i recorded a 10 second video on the ipad and then i took a screenshot of the video.
Did I do it right?
Sorry if i didn't, please explain it to me with apples.

Here's the image:

As i say, when i game or watch videos everything seems to be fine. It's just more noticeable when i do the black screen test.

What do you think? Should I ask for a replacement?

Thanks

My panel in a dark room (now it's night time)
please make images smaller if you are going to embed them, or put them inside spoiler tags

Yours doesn't look too bad, slightly worse than mine but from what I've seen of monitors lately looks pretty normal.
