**ATI RADEON 7800 SERIES NOW AVAILABLE!!**

Strange you're having problems I just slapped the 12.4 beta's on no fuss.

Might be worth fully un-installing whatever drivers you have on, delete the ATi directory, and any nvidia directories you might have left.

Power down, move the card to the main slot.

Power up and install the card as Generic VGA (manually).

Reboot.

Grab the 12.4 betas, do a custom install.

See if that fixes it.

As for temps and card noise... what case etc do you have? As you can see from my screenshots mine never broke 60C at stock, and 61C OC'd, and the fan barely ramps up above 40%, and i'm in an mATX case with all fans on min speed. It's probably the quietest card I have ever used, even quieter than the 560Ti TFII I had before this and I thought that was superb!

7870 is unquestionably a lovely card, but I honestly can't say it's £80-90 better than a 7850.

They'd need to come down to under £250 to be worth the extra outlay over a 7850 imho.

Will 7870 CF be a lot faster than a 7970/680? There aren't many reviews of them in crossfire. :(

CF 7850/7870's would be considerably faster I'd imagine.

EDIT :

Soundly trounces a 7970. Right up there with 7950/7970 CF setups.

Hmm, looks pretty good but the performance looks as though it is about on par with a SLI 580. Given my 570 is OC to 580 speeds, I could probably get a similar performance adding another 570 OC which would be considerably cheaper. The only other benefits for 7870 CF for me would be 2GB VRAM, and lower power usage.

I'm a bit on the fence about it at the moment. They seem like a great buy but I don't want to discover that I need to use one card as issues with profiles in CF and drivers not being ready mean I have no other choice with new games - defeating the purpose of using crossfire.

Looking to upgrade my GPU at the moment as well as upgrade my monitor from 19" LCD to 27" LCD/LED, currently have a GTX 260 896MB (216 core) that is about two years old now. Would the 7850 be a big improvement on the GTX card?

Also, I tend to go about 1.5 to 2 years between GPU upgrades, would a 7850 last that long? In terms of being able to play the most recent games maxed out without any issues, especially on a 27" screen?

I would be willing to spend £300, but it's a case of, unless someone tells me I definitely need to spend around that amount to get a card that will run games maxed out on a 27" screen, both now and in the future/upcoming games, I really don't actually want to spend that amount on a graphics card, so if I can get something for a lot less money that will meet the requirements above then I would rather spend less money.

Rest of my computer spec (for reference):

Intel i5-2500K CPU
Gigabyte P67A-UD4 motherboard
Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU cooler
4GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 12800C9 memory - adding 8GB soon for 12GB total
Corsair TX650 (650W) V2 PSU

the size isnt a factor its the resolution its running at :)

Just installed my MSI 7850 and 1st impressions are very good indeed. Installed 12.4 beta drivers and my idle temp all be it being at the downclock speed 300/150 is 30c.

Gonna give battlefield a whirl in a bit so i'll report back with how it seemed to cope

The sapphire 7870 for £269 is calling to me like a siren.

I had my heart set on the msi twin frozr III though.

At £269.99 it's a lot better than the original £289.99 prices they went up for.

The 7870 OC'd is very close to 7950 performance for considerably less outlay.

From reading around the Sapphire coolers seem to be just as good as the MSI ones, both cards are silent under load.

And the Sapphire is much cheaper than the TFIII version.
