** ATi X1k/HD 3k series overclocking guide - ATi Tray Tools and ATi Tool + FAQ **

Kyo

I think it was me you are refering to!! :p

Basically i have followed the same instruction and have got as far as that same point - i understand that the increased clock speeds mentioned are fairly standard speeds for 3d applications. Not really seen as pushing the card at all. (overclocking)

Still all new to me also after being a Nvidia person for the last wee while!!!

Conc - Just read your opening post and a few other threads that you commented it on. Can you help clarify what you meant as i am kinda new to ATI so don't quite understand the concepts.

A guy mentioned he had 9.5K on 3dmark05 but you said that was only 2D mode and should get 11k in 3d mode?. What is the difference?? Do i have to do something to my card profile wise so that it run or enable 3d mode? I kinda briefly grasped this thinking that 3d mode should kick in applications and games when need be or should i require to basically do something software wise before it can run properly??

From reading the opening page what i can tell

"Right, now onto 3D. Create another profile called .3D stock’.
Click settings at the bottom right, from the drop down menu, go to Fan Settings, set this how you want to run 24/7, apply and save to the profile ‘3D stock’. Then go to Voltages and set: 1.4/2.089/2.089/1.487 in that order as you go down the settings. Then apply and save to ‘3D stock’.

Now go back to the clocks page. Set clocks at:
X1900XT: 625/725
X1900XT Crossfire Master Card: 625/725
X1900XTX: 650/775

Apply, then save to the profile ‘3D stock’
."

That not even into overclocking yet so i can do that without any issues right? I feel i don't need to overclock if i can help it as i think it more than enough to do what i want.

Cheers for any advise/clarification would be appreciated for this ati noob :D.

Kyo

Those are the cards stock clocks + voltages. It isn't overclocking until you pass them ;).

3D detection works by enabling the 3D detection from the settings panel. Select whatever profile for 3D, and set one for 2D and set another one for boot if you want, EG. 2D.

Some games don't trigger the 3D switch, so you have to force it.

EVE Online and CoD2 are the two I have to force.

Hi Concorde thanks for the post. Got a quick question.

I am using Cat 6.5 with the CCC. I have installed ATI Tools version 0.25 Beta 10. In one of the first parts of your post you mention setting up the fan speeds and voltages from the drop down menu. I do not seem to have these settings in the menu. I only have Overclocking, Artifact scanning, Gamma Control, Start-up, 3d-detection and Misc.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I just installed ATITool on my new PC and and it gives me an error message saying...

atitoolerror6wl.jpg

I've had a look on the Techpowerup forums but I can't see anything that will fix it. I'm using the 6.5s.

Thats weird! New install of windows or drivers removed and reinstalled?

Driver clean them all and install Omegas TBH much better IQ and updated ATT :)

CR.

me again- just done a clean install and only installed omega drivers and ATI tool.

followed Concordes exact clocking guide on the first page and still getting only 9300 in 3d marks 05 with clocks @ 625/725 (this is set as 3d stock)

upon running 3dmarks 05 it still shows the clocks as above when it flicks between the tests.

totally confused now!

(Omega 3.8.252) Driver 6.14.10.6614

Just as a side issue - you mentioned (concorde) in your opening post about 3d marks 05 being the best as it doesn't have the CPU test in it. The 3d marks 05 i have got (1.2.0 version i believe) does have the CPU test in it. FRee version and you can't take them out. would this be the issues of the poor score? (the cpu test is like 1 FPS during the test!)

During 2005 you can press esc and cancel the CPU tests. Im sure you arn't in 3D mode as you should be getting well over 10k, 9-10k is 2D mode, i've tested on my PC and I got 9467 in 2D mode

Sliders set to perfromace, all AA and AF off? Have you got a 2nd screen you can plug in and watch the clocks on the 2nd screen?

On the ATi Tool not working front, I have no idea mate, I've never seen that before :(

Just got my X1900XT installed this morning. I ran 3Dmark05 lastnight on my 9800 Pro and here are the comparisons:

9800 Pro = 1549
X1900XT = 10970 :D

A 1000% increase in performance!!!!! X1900XT is at stock, i have not even attempted to overclock it using the instructions on this thread yet. It goes withut saying, i'm well chuffed! ;)

Ok - didn't know that you could press escape - will remember that!

As for the sliders - the clocks clearly show the 625/725 in the background when they switch between the tests. (a slight show of the desktop in between tests)

When you say "sliders" where are these based? In ATI Tools? sorry to sound thick!!! Thanks for all the help so far. :D

Im trying to overclock this card abit but ATi Tools does not allow me to do anything with it... here is the log file:

2006-06-15 11:30:44 ATITool v0.24 started.
2006-06-15 11:30:44 Detected GPU Chip: 0x0 (0), 8 Pipelines, 512 MB
2006-06-15 11:30:44 Temperature monitoring: not supported
2006-06-15 11:30:44 Could not locate ATI BIOS - assuming 27.000 Mhz Ref. clock
2006-06-15 11:30:55 Application terminated.

It does not even state what are the current clocks..?

With Ati Tray Tools, it registers the Core 500 and Mem ate 594...? I try and adjust the bars but the fan speeds up for a second and the clocks go back to default..? I have used both these programs on my 9800 Pro card without any probs. And whats with that log file registering only 8 pipelines..?

would suggest you get ATI tools 0.25 beta 14 - that is the lastest version.

As it was the beta, i was not too sure so used the 0.24 Stable beta instead. But i have instakked 0.25 beta and it has worked. A box came up mentioning something about CCC has done something with the 2D/3D settings and will not be unable to overclock uless i disabled a .exe app. Done that now and all seems fine. Is it normal though for the clocks to be set below the advertised levels...?

Edit: Nope i was wrong, whilst i can adjust all other settings like fant, voltage etc. I can't get it to set the adjust clock speeds. Just stays at 500/595..?

Just tried the omega and the ati tool and i am pretty sure i am not doing something correctly as i managed to hang my system :( and i haven't even gone to overclocking yet. It kinda shocked me that i uninstalled drivers and everything else. But like i said it probably something i haven't done correct as it been ok for everyone else.

Got it all working back with standard 6.5 +ccc again but it left me thinking why am i doing this when everything works perfectly.

2 things that come to mind that could have been the issue

1. With ati tool. I had set it to start on startup and load on default my 3d profile i created automatically and then switch itself off from the system tray. I presume that ok??? This way the 3d profile is always on on startup, should this be ok? or should you really only load 3d profile if your going just about to go into a app/game that requires it???

2. I had set the following into my 3d profile when using atitool "Then go to Voltages and set: 1.4/2.089/2.089/1.487" they seemed a good bit higher than the stock volts on the default profile. can anyone clarify??

should i have uninstalled CCC as i did have it loaded but it no profiles or anything loaded at all.

Cheers

1.1V is 2D voltage, if you want to get to 3D speeds then you WILL need those voltages.

3D detection works fine for me now as I have setg a 105Mhz PCi-E speed. I would have a 300/400 2D speed with 1/1.9/1.9/1.400V as it uses 50% of the power of stock 2D and 2D -> 3D is fine, even at my overclocked settings :D

Its really weird you are having problems with ATi Tool, using Beta 14 etc? :(
