Audi owners in here!

Pretty reasonable to be honest, no more than the 911. If you buy one with the R-Chronic (sorry R-Tronic) gearboxes then budget for a new clutch every 2-3 years at $4-5k. It really is the worst single clutch manual gearbox I've ever driven so if I'd be wary of it if you decide not to buy a manual. Audi made it 100x worse than it was in the Lamborghini.

They're very reliable cars, even the V10's with only the usual stuff to pay for. Brakes can be expensive but not massively more than a 911. They're certainly not even close to Lamborghini or Ferrari cost of ownership and should give you a lot of fun for very little heartache.

Thanks,

I have a test drive booked for later today.

Make sure you test all the gearbox options, I found the R-Tronic was pretty much the worst automated manual I had driven and the S-Tronic the best double clutch (ever?) its too smooth, no feeling at all, made the GT-R feel like a single clutch. Probably the most boring gearbox you could put in a sports car.

The only real option is manual, even though I was taking it easy and getting used to the pedal position the satisfaction changing gears with that gated shifter is just brilliant.
Each gear is like reloading a bolt action rifle :D

I looked again at an LP560 as my R8 is still a few months away but again I am sticking with my R8 order.
The servicing costs alone on the LP are ridiculous in comparison when they are pretty much the same car but if you don't have that Lamborghini stamp in the service book you are done when you want to sell it.
And I don't know what Lamborghini do but some how they make the cabin feel a lot smaller and less legroom!

Are you looking at the V8 or V10?

Ah good, glad I'm not the only one that thought that about both of their automated offerings. I'd rate the S-Tronic up there as one of the smoothest boxes but you're right, it's not the right match for the R8. It is of course a huge leap over their R-Chronic but then anything would've been.

Two things that disappoint me with the R8 from the Lambo, despite being the same engine and having the gearbox being stamped with a Lambo logo, the gearbox was altered to be massively worse and the exhaust note (stock) I feel is lacking. I would agree as well that the interior feels a lot more roomy in the R8 than the Gallardo.

I'm still toying with the idea of moving to a V10 R8 from the F430 or to a manual Gallardo but that won't be for a little while.

You are right about the exhaust, I don't think the R8 is lacking but the LP560 is definitely louder at start up and lower revs, up top when the valves open I don't think there is much in it.

Here is a pretty good video of the stock exhaust.

If that ever gets boring there are plenty of aftermarket options!

Picked up an A3 S-line 2ltr diesel last week, new company car. It replaced a Seat Leon FR 2ltr diesel and I was a bit miffed that it didn't come with a connector cable to plug my USB stick into (which the Leon did!)

Spotted various cheapo ones online, anyone had any experience with them? Don't fancy shelling out £30 from Audi if I can get one for £10 elsewhere but also want the thing to work!

Hi, this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audi-Music-Interface-Cable-TTMA15/dp/B009ZC7VQU was recommended on a Audi forum...

Thanks for the info.

I took a R8 for a test drive yesterday, it was a V10 S-Tronic.
Nice car, the sound was just amazing and incredibly quick and I found it put a huge smile on my face.

However its just not a 911 for me, so plan is to probably buy a R8 in around a month or so. Keep it for 6 to 9 months to scratch that little itch and then get my self a new 991 PDK.

Just ditch the USB stick and use an SD card instead - problem solved.

Cleaned it today.

It's the USB>MMI cable I need yeah, no idea what the part no. is though. I've looked on the Audi website and I can't seem to find it under A3 Entertainment, they have iPod/iPhone cables listed but not USB.

It's a company car direct from Audi, I work for a car-leasing company (in IT) which is part-owned by the VW Group, so we order direct frm the factory via VW and change car every 6 months. We pick them up from a VW handover centre in Milton Keynes, and when I spotted the cable wasn't there the chap doing the handover said the Audis don't come with one! Found one on a well-known auction website for a tenner and the seller assures me it'll work so will see what happens...

You can also disable the exhaust valves so it is always open like an LP

Will be first mod I do when I pick up an early V8 manual in a year or two ;)

Initially I wasn't sure about them, as 20" is a bit big for replacement tyres and reduces the ride quality a bit, but now I quite like them . IIRC they're called the 5-segment-spoke design (based on the previous shape RS6 wheels) and are about £1500 option ontop of the 18" S-Line wheels.

Coming up to 22 months of ownership of the A4 and the start of this thread! In those 22 months I have had to replace:

4 Tyres
1 Rear Spring
Flywheel

Still enjoy the car, it drives very well and still solid with no rattles! Averaging 46.6mpg on the computer.

Would I like a new car...yes! However with the birth of my little baby daughter at the beginning of March I am going to keep for at least another 2 years and spend my money on enjoying time with the family!

Booked in for MOT Thursday so will see what work needs to be done, however in the coming months I need to replace:

Oil Change
Disk & Pads all round
Front Windscreen - quite scratched and chipped from the years and a bit of a nightmare in sun.
Wheels need refurbishing
Good Wash & Machine Polish

Had my 58 plate A4 estate a while now and still loving it, it's nice and comfy on the long jaunts down the motorway now we are looking at moving to Cambridge.

Similarly, had the DMF making some noise a year back and that and the clutch got done at same time. My alloys are in dire need of a refurb though now and are peeling, might get them powder coated to anthracite although not sure against an Aruba Blue body.
