Audi owners in here!

:(

One of my tyres got punctured today, guy at garage got it off then proclaimed it was useless, that the puncture was not cause of death and showed me tons of "tar" on the inside of the tyre.

I simply asked if you have a new one in stock he said yes, referred me back to the customer waiting area, 10 min later called to say all done.... so now I have a bridgestone potenza on one side and a hankook known for aquaplaning and generally **** on the other side...

He gave me the impression he was fitting another bridgestone of the same model.

So now I am going to have to fork out for 2 brand new tyres so that the tread is even :(

I have Kumho's on the front and they probably need doing too so four new front 225 18's is going to be a bit expensive isn't it!

Why did you accept it? If you had said he could have just removed it before you drove off!

I asked and he said it was too late as he had fitted it already :/

I hope it lasts a few K before I switch to four ContiSports.

@zulu - how you find the Q7? Picked TTRS up this year and tweaked it up to APR Stage II but might change and look at Q5 / Q7 next year if I don't jump back on the bikes!

How are you finding the TTRS? I'm thinking of buying one and would be great to hear thoughts :) (contact details in Trust)

Has anyone fitted anything like these to an Audi convertible?

http://www.reinhold-engineering.de/frames_e.htm

(The one-touch and remote roof modules.)

And if you were going to, would you be happy using terminal blocks? (I haven't soldered anything since I was 12, and I was crap at it then.)

Best stuff I've found are wago connectors. Great for automotive stuff.

OK, I've fitted it now and it works fine - I'd recommend it to anyone.

I'm cack-handed, and even I managed to do it with little difficulty. Here are my pointers from it:

Wago clips don't work - the wires involved are fine stranded (and 0.5mm gauge in some cases) so they just crumple on trying to push them into the cable lock. Luckily I had some choc blocks in reserve.

I can see why the suggestion is to solder. There are 6 connections you need to splice in to, and the wires are quite tightly bound, you quickly get into a situation where the blocks are taking up too much space and straining the wires and connections. I did manage it, but it took a bit of messing around.

The door card on the S4 is very well designed, fits together very well, and is easily taken off and replaced.

The instructions on that website are very easily followed - just be aware that everything is backwards for the UK (noticeably, even the window CPU that you're splicing into is mounted reversed within the door.)

Picked up an A3 S-line 2ltr diesel last week, new company car. It replaced a Seat Leon FR 2ltr diesel and I was a bit miffed that it didn't come with a connector cable to plug my USB stick into (which the Leon did!)

Spotted various cheapo ones online, anyone had any experience with them? Don't fancy shelling out £30 from Audi if I can get one for £10 elsewhere but also want the thing to work!

do you know what part no you need. I have a spare for an A1/A4/A6 current models.

You basically need the USB MMI cable?

I had the MMI cable issue with my Polo, they only gave me a USB one and not an iPod/iPhone one, a quick call to the dealer and they sorted me out with one.

Was a brand new car too so your company car should definitely have one.

It's the USB>MMI cable I need yeah, no idea what the part no. is though. I've looked on the Audi website and I can't seem to find it under A3 Entertainment, they have iPod/iPhone cables listed but not USB.

It's a company car direct from Audi, I work for a car-leasing company (in IT) which is part-owned by the VW Group, so we order direct frm the factory via VW and change car every 6 months. We pick them up from a VW handover centre in Milton Keynes, and when I spotted the cable wasn't there the chap doing the handover said the Audis don't come with one! Found one on a well-known auction website for a tenner and the seller assures me it'll work so will see what happens...

I am playing with the idea of a R8 or maybe save some cash and get a RSTT.

What are running costs like on the R8?

Pretty reasonable to be honest, no more than the 911. If you buy one with the R-Chronic (sorry R-Tronic) gearboxes then budget for a new clutch every 2-3 years at $4-5k. It really is the worst single clutch manual gearbox I've ever driven so if I'd be wary of it if you decide not to buy a manual. Audi made it 100x worse than it was in the Lamborghini.

They're very reliable cars, even the V10's with only the usual stuff to pay for. Brakes can be expensive but not massively more than a 911. They're certainly not even close to Lamborghini or Ferrari cost of ownership and should give you a lot of fun for very little heartache.
