Audi owners in here!

which s4 was it out of curiosity? b7 or 8? just I've been dabbling the idea of knocking off the 2.0t a4 and upping the ante and been looking rather closely at the b7 s4 (4.2 v8 ;) rumble rumble rumble) so any info would be useful ;)

had a test drive in the boggo Q3 and it was alright, just about get the thing sliding sideways in a dry, grassy field (audi pro drive ;) ) so I imagine an RS before the name and a few more horses under the bonnet it won't be toooooo bad. imagine it would be a bit spongy in comparison. :p but stilll. pics!!! ;)

It is a B8 S4, never driven the B7 but if it is anything like the B8 then go for it. I had a B8 2.0T quattro before the S4 and the difference was huge!

It arrives at the garage on Friday I'll call in to see it and try and get a photo or two before the plates go on (save me blanking them out) if I can't then I collect it Monday.

Surprisingly it didn't feel bad when I test drove one but I didn't like to push it too hard in the corners with the salesman sitting next to me

thanks for the response! :D ay, just have to wait for something nice to come along now :p

well hopefully being the rs you'll have sportier seats with some lateral support...or hope the steering wheel is sturdy and hold on like a rollercoaster rail to stop you flying about in the car when you're drifting in a field ;)

I had a B6 S4, which is pretty much the same as the B7, really just an exterior difference. It was a good car. The V8 was quite muted though, but a stainless soon sorts that out.

Nice quick car though, and fun enough to drive. Fuel consumption was as you would expect though.

I will say this though, my mapped 335d, (I know, BMW in an Audi thread), was every bit as quick as my S4. As such, I probably wouldn't have another V8 S4. Especially a B7, as you will inevitably come across a RS4 and regret your purchase. At least there wasn't a B6 RS4 so you will never come across one of them. I WOULD have a B8 S4 though. That 3.0T (well, supercharged) engine is a peach, and doesn't take much to get it almost as fast as a B8 RS4 (just check out Chris Harris' Drive video where he compares his mapped S4 to an RS4).

I would have another 335d though, without a doubt. Same speed / performance with half the fuel consumption.

LOL, the one I had was a sline with full leather, which probably made the sliding about worse....

I'm sure all that diamond pattern stitching on the seats will help hold me firmly in place :)

velcro pants? :p

thanks for the info :) yeah seen quite a few youtoobs showing off various exhausts ;) some subtle.... others... neighbourhood waking xD just the low end rumble gives goosebumps!

yeah I've had a little look at the b8 s4 and b7 rs4 but both seem to be around the same price which is that much more again than the b7 s4 :p (by about 10k xD ) And I've seen that vid where they compare the two, was really good, love them both!!!

also seen a vid where they drag a b8 S4 vs b8 RS4, they give a simple revo plug in box tune to the s4 and it's pretty much neck and neck with the RS4!!! was very impressed by that! b8 would be nice for that tunability.... but seen you can get s/c's to slap on the b7's v8 xD costly but doable :p

just keeping my eyes peeled :) local audi did have a used car special going on... shame they pretty much only had diesels of everything :p damn reps!

Yeah, it was a nationwide event I think? I got a letter through from my local place too since I have bought a couple motors from them over the years. Same as the BMW place last year, where I bought one of my current motors (although I went new this time).

There is actually nothing wrong with the B7 S4 other than being a bit unexciting. You are honestly just as well off with a B6 and saving some pounds (probably less on tax too). It is the same engine, same underneath, and same interior. And if you do go down the S4 route, go for an estate. They sell MUCH quicker. My saloon took 18 months to go.

I did look at supercharging the S4. But as you say, mega bucks. And to end up with similar performance to an RS4, with a similar overall outlay, but the car never being worth as much as the RS, and it's really a non-starter.

I still stand by B8 S4 all the way though. I would easily have one over a B7 RS4. The RS4 is obviously a very nice motor, but the B7 is so dated now (as I said, very similar to the B6, so that goes all the way back to around 2001), and chipping a B8 S4 to get roughly the same performance, makes it an outright bargain.

yeah think it may have been as I had an email, so did my sister and father. father being the only customer, sister buying from the vw part of the dealership and me registering interest in the audi and pestering them with questions haha!

ay the b6's and the pre may '06 b7's fall in the £280 road tax(whatever) bracket where post may '06 4.2's are bit heftier at £490 :p granted it's once a year but that is also about 2.5 tanks for fuel, at a guess, saving ;) I do much prefer the look of the b7 models over the b6 though so unless i can fall in love the b6's are so much of an option :p but then you say estate....... they are nice looking but dunno..... just don't feel it's for me xD if I do buy then it will be staying with me for quite a while :)

when you say "a bit unexciting" is that in comparison to other things you have driven as well... my track record isn't exactly thrill seeking (fiesta, escort, kia rio.....WOOOO!!!! hold onto your hats... might hit 60mph sometime today! )

I do like the b8's and like that there's more potential in them with the s/c (and newer platform and not so dated looks) but it's just that bigger capital over the b7 as a bit of a jump in price. gotta think hard about it and weigh up pros and cons. have seen a nice 2009 s4 on AT for just shy of 17k with 100k on it but just one owner ;) doesn't have B&O :( but has MMI and the rest.... hummm... (about 6-7+k more than some of the b7's I was looking at :p ) have the monies... it's just plucking up the courage to throw it away at something. I have trouble letting go of big sums of cash... as we all do I'm sure (well..... most ;) ) it's just more which I'd be happier with, don't want to needlessly spent an extra 7k when I could be just as happy, or happier, with the older model... damn my indecisiveness :(

should just win the lotto and buy a brand spanking new one and be the end of it haha!

Oh gawd....just felt a right wally when I went to jump-start my neighbours' car!!

Opened the bonnet on my 2013 A4...and...."Where's the battery gone?"....lol

I thought to myself, it's gotta be here somewhere....in the end, I had to go through the manual to find out where to look :o

For those who already know - chuckle away. For those who don't....the battery isn't in the engine bay, but there's a positive terminal under a protective flap at the top near the windscreen, and the negative is a hex nut protruding from the body on the right-hand side of the engine bay (it's got a '-' stamped onto the top of it if you look closely...)

Lesson learned - RTFM (thoroughly) :D

but it's an oval ;) does look sexy I must say, loving the colour!!!!

I know it's a 4x4/crossover/whatever but could do with being a smidgen lower i think ;) or some ridiculously big alloys to fill the arches ;)

Looks like a major dilution of the RS brand - it has just 300bhp and is no quicker to 60 than something like a 335i.

Why is it an RSQ3 and not just an SQ3?

RS series Audi's are usually utterly bonkers. This one absolutely isn't.

Some new overview videos coming up soon. :)

The new paint on the RS7 looks quite amazing in person. Perhaps more suitable in somewhere like California then Tamworth. :p
