Audi owners in here!

Went to the local Audi dealer this morning to collect Dad's A6. Have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. As-well as the usual stock of dagdags they had a couple of RS6s, a couple of RS4s, a couple of S8s, and at least five R8s that I counted (both V8 and V10). Nice to see an main dealer that actually knows what petrol is!

Found the A6 parked here:

Went to my local dealer (Leicester Audi) the other week and that had plenty of R8s and RS + S cars to look at. At least five used R8s outside... :)

you guys see the BBC Watchdog show with the piece on Audi lying about NCAP testing of their cars

so I'll try and sum it up.

-Guy bought an R8 and prior to purchase was told it was NCAP tested and had 5 stars.
-Car involved in crash and (i think) written off)
-Does some searching about NCAP on the R8 .....can't find any?
-Phones up Audi dealers/head office to ask about this, everyone comes back saying they are all NCAP tested and passed with 5 stars. to quote a guy "we only sell cars that are 5* NCAP"
-Speaks to NCAP and Audi are talking out their arses :p

-4 of the cars in the range (a5, r8 that I remember) are being sold and boasted as 5* NCAP when asked.....but in reality they haven't had anything to do with NCAP.

Thoughts on this? I think it was said that because on some models e.g.a5, it is "close" to the A4 with similar/same safety features so is just assumed by Audi to be of equal standard.

Personally I think it's pretty bad for such a big company to lie out right to its customers/potential customers. I can kinda get where they are coming from but unless you actually test the car then you'll never know for sure right?

Ah well.... won't effect me with my looking for the older a4/s4 anywho ;) (still hunting :( )

It's up on iPlayer and is the first article on the program.

Was another interesting article about a "secure" pickup/dropoff valet parking services for air port travelers. They say they'll meet you at the airport, take you car to their secure complex and then meet you back when you return to the airport. Turns out that Some cars had been damaged/driven irresponsibly which they deny, a car was stolen from their "complex" and the customer was told it's their problem as they don't cover theft....:confused: (from their own complex... lol) also there is doubt whether the "secure complex" even exists as many of cars in their care were found parked up in regular carparks, road side, by community centers, with parking tickets or wheel clamped!!!!!!!! Absolute cowboys!!!!

Is it Audi lying about it or a salesman at franchised dealer?

For example, I see nothing in the R8 literature about crash testing or NCAP ratings but if I went into my local dealership ran by Robinsons Motor Group and asked them, they would probably tell me it was crash tested.
May be not now though if there has been a watchdog program about it.

I will check it out if it is still on iPlayer when I get back to the UK.

I thought it was just Audi franchise/dealer/random garage sales reps. The guy phoned up over 50 different dealerships and 48 of them told him they all were 5* NCAP tested, then watchdog did some walk ins to show rooms and were told face to face they were NCAP tested, without leading the questions too much too, i.e. "so these cars have a sorta safety rating or..?"

but then they phoned up audi head office (can't remember exactly who they spoke to or whether it was just one or a few people) and were told the same, all 5* NCAP. So yeah.... everyone says they are tested..... except NCAP.... who do the tests xD

Damn, that is a bit worse than I initially thought it was!

I know how salesman can be "car will be ready in 3-4 months" I order it and it turns out to be 7!

But calling the actual Audi UK HQ and getting lied to is pretty bad!

NCAP testing is voluntary though and there is no legal requirement for cars to be Euro NCAP tested. Won't stop me from buying a Audi as there are worse lies than that by salespersons..

Ay, as I said, I'm still hunting for my audi xD it's an older one anyway so probably don't have NCAP tests on those haha!

Yeah there are much worse lies made by the sales peeps but it's more the principal of the thing where NCAP safety is an important factor for some people looking to buy new cars, so these sales are being made by the car claiming to be something it's not. Like the guy who brought it to light bought his R8 over some other cars because he wanted to make sure he was getting the safest and went on the word of the sales guy, and then after he was in an accident he did a little checking and found out he was lied to.

Should just send the cars to be tested, then if the remaining 4 do get 5* then it can all be swept under the rug xD

You'd think that with all the "fuss" about this Audi would be smashing those 4 cars through the NCAP asap, just to avoid any more bad press (assuming the get 5*'s of course!)

Todays courtesy car. It's an audi a4 SE technik. Not sure I really enjoyed driving a bigger car. Handling just felt so numb/boat like compared to the A1. It was also the CVT auto (I've never driven an auto) but it seemed alright this sort of car, very smooth didn't even notice the changes and it made driving in traffic a lot more relaxing. Not so keen on the delay when taking your foot off the brake and moving to accelerator, didn't feel very quick of the line especially at roundabouts - maybe I just wasn't used to it. :o

Someone asked about the dashboard screen in the A6 a few weeks ago, as they'd only seen the normal one and thought it looked naff. Here's a photo of what the Colour DIS option on the C7 A6 looks like. Cycles through loads of screens etc.
Ignore the Navigation screen, that's something I was fiddling with.
