Atleast Fox doesn't make outlandish statements such as "My bmw has better MPG than all audi's", then conveniently not posting the Fuelly figure for the economical Audi, instead choosing the DPF plagued 177 tdi version!

Let's find us latest version Audi, eh?

Oh look. Audi has more MPG. What a suprise!
I didn't say that at all. I said in my experience that 6 pot BMW diesels were better performers than the 4 pot Audi diesels I had. I did actually go on to comment that perhaps I got unlucky twice in a row. You asked me to prove it, and I did provide the evidence.
It wasn't "convenience" that resulted in no fuelly figures for the first one. I traded that one in after a year (20k) as the average was sooooo poor. I thought it was maybe a duff engine, and the newer ones would undoubtedly be better (although it was a 2009 143). I was mistaken. The 177 was considerably worse (while looking considerably better admittedly). Which caused me to sign up to fuelly for better mpg tracking.
I really doubt the DPF would have been playing up too much with the 177 either, as my commute is around 40 miles of motorway, with 15 or so miles of fast A roads, and a few miles of town on each side. So actually perfect conditions to avoid DPF issues.
As for the Passat. Yes, it is good on fuel. But it is older. Hence my qualifying statement of I would be unlikely to purchase another RELATIVELY NEW Audi in the future. Just as I would be unlikely to purchase a relatively new VW / SEAT / Skoda diesel.
And, for the record, before my 2009 143, I had a 2.0 TDI (138) A3. And that averaged around 45 mpg over 50k. That wasn't bad as it has a relatively aggressive map on it for most of that, and being younger, it got some stick. So I am happy to buy older Audi's. But MY experience of the newer Audi diesels is that they are less economical than MY 6 pot beemers.
But what do I know? I'm only basing my opinions on nearly 100k of driving Audi diesels and around 30k on BMW diesels in the last 8 or so years.
I will also add that the not buying newer audis is specifically their diesels. At the same time as all that diesel driving I had various 1.8T's, V6's and even a V8 from Audi / VW. I do still like the petrol's and am seriously considering a B8 S4 at the moment.
