Audi owners in here!

It really wasnt, probably the worst car BMW ever made.

Well thats not saying much is it really, cant see the wood for the trees and all that ;)

Anyway, I didn't say it was a great car, its not, but I said the reviews were a bit OTT, which they were
Like for example the cabin size, its an issue the segment faces until they get really large, cars like the Juke get the same criticism, like by somehow jacking them up you should gain cabin space somehow. They are based on small chassis compared to how large the vehicle looks, but thats deceptive.

The segment is only really starting to mature now, plenty if not all the first gen of these SUVs were poor compared to normal cars in day to day use, apart from things like access.
They pretty much still remain so today, if you benchmark is a 5 series or something, they are all terrible.

If the OP was looking at a Q3 then the X1 is a valid competitor which if he hasn't driven one its worth looking at, particularly the new one as it has fixed a lot of the criticisms which were valid, just people went OTT about them

I guess it depends on what you consider the worst car and on what criteria, it seems Autocar for example disagrees with you, rating plenty of BMW cars with less stars than the v1 x1 ;)

Eg 1 series 3.5, x1 4

Think I may have an issue with my new A4 (unless they are all like it).

Basically when I'm cruising down the motorway with all the windows up, it sounds like the windows are about 1mm off from being fully shut. I hear the draft noise, but can't feel anything.

anyone have the same?

There is a window reset thingy you can do, although if in warranty yeah just take it in

Some TTs suffer from frozen windows, and one of the fixes is to drop the window a mm or so, don't think it affects the A4 model but its possible, people do report a slight increase in wind noise due to this

Hi,

Anyone know what is going on with the SQ7? is a new one/refresh due?

Website states - "Some of the SQ7 engines are now subject to availability. Please speak to your local Audi Centre for pricing and stock availability matching your requirements." When you go to configure a new one

Is the model being discontinued?

Not sure on exact model but Audi like most of the manufacturers are having issues with the new standards and testing, they dont have enough equipment and trained techs to have met the deadline

So most models have restrictions on engines etc until they are fully tested, suspect they have been working on the most popular combinations first (logically)

The TT was similar, they are not taking orders due to facelift, there was a similar statement which meant "we have some cars made not to customer order that are available"

I don't think it is as simplistic as not having enough staff. Audi has just been through the diesel scandal meaning they had to retest most of their cars and produce altered software and they had their COE arrested in his office. All in all this must have caused extreme turmoil to the company not forgetting the huge costs, plus they aren't alone as it is the whole of VAG behind in this case ihcluding Porsche...

Its not dieselgate directly, its the new EU rules, they have to test far more options in depth

As I said its not just staff but also equipment, and yes across the whole VW group

Every manufacturer has to do it, but from my understanding, every option needs to be tested if they change the emissions, so they have enough staff and equipment to handle normal changes but not to test everything in depth within a short period of time.

Do you find the S3 Saloon a bit limiting now that you have a baby? Is it a pain to fit everything into the boot?
The only time it's been a bit of a squeeze is when we went to Devon for a week, still fit everything in though. Day to day, week on week it's been more than fine so far.

The issue will come in the next 12-18 months or so when he starts to want to take larger toys (bikes, etc) with him to places.

Ah okay, thanks. There might be some changes in our household next year, so I'm starting to think what to replace our Cooper S with. A typical hatchback (Golf, Focus etc.) will be too limiting so I was looking at cars with 400L+ boots and the A3 Saloon was one of them. Realistically though, something like the Mini Countryman makes more sense.

I guess it all depends on if you intend to take domestic holidays with the little-un. We tend to like taking UK holidays (don't fancy taking a screaming child on a plane, leaving that for a few years), so the whole saloon tailgate opening is going to prove the bigger problem than the actual capacity in the next few years. As I say, if we were only using it as a weekly/daily runaround, shopping, visiting local family etc, then it would be more than big enough.

Going for an estate next just due to ease of loading I think.

We have the B9 A4 Avant too, so the car that replaces the Cooper S will be "good enough" rather than the one we rely on the most. I just think that any hatchback with a ~350L boot will be too impractical even as a second car.

You'll be in a SUV soon if you're not careful ;-)

Ok, so my 2017 A4 2.0l TFSI 190ps now has now a tuning box, care of DTUK, and I also have had a TCU tune delivered today, also from them but not advertised, just to try. The increase to 250ps and 400Nm of torque the tuning box gives makes life more interesting and gives some very nice acceleration. Plus now I can easily get over 50mpg, as indicated on the DIS, cruising on 'A' roads and my urban mpg also seems to improved. I will use the TCU tune over this week to see if there are benefits but I am hoping that it's a positive combination.

While I was originally looking for an SUV I think I've discounted them now. I liked the Q3 but after a couple of test drives it was a bit wallowy in corners, there is a new model incoming and it doesn't really offer much (any?) extra space over the A3/Golf/etc. It looks great but because it's small it doesn't really have many of the advantages of a larger SUV. Unfortunately my wife point blank refuses to consider anything larger otherwise I'd just get the Skoda Kodiaq which impressed me hugely. It's a family car that she will have to drive occasionally to collect our son from sports fixtures. So if she can't/won't drive it then it's pointless buying it.

So I'm now looking at family hatchbacks again and the A3 is naturally in contention along with a few others.

Is there anything I should be cautious of with the A3, such as an imminent refresh or particular options which are highly recommended?
