Audi owners in here!

People who have bought from dealerships recently, did you get offered a lifeshine service and product? and the dealerships version of GAP, Vehicle Price Protection?

Did you buy GAP elsewhere or ignore altogether?

Thoughts?

yes, and the cheeky bugger automatically added them onto the agreement

easily remove however. complete waste of money imho.

I bought my GAP through ala.co.uk. Search around and you'll find a discount code too (not that you need it, they were cheaper than Audi by a rather massive margin).

The only extra I purchased through Audi was the minor paint/repair protection, which is essentially the use of their approved chips-away type service that maintains the bodywork/paint warranty.

I didn't get offered the lifeshine rubbish, I'd have turned it down anyway, although I did get them to throw in the dealer's branded bag of detailing/cleaning products (leather cleaner, glass cleaner, detailing spray, shampoo, cloths, etc)

"GAP12" will get you 12% off.

EDIT: Why does the price jump so much when you go from 3 to 4 years with ALA? I need to buy a policy, but it's £107 for 3 years and £180 for 4. It's a drop in the ocean compared to the £22k I just dropped on the car, but it's not pocket change.

That premium the 3 year one, is the figure you pay the entire amount? Or is that an amount you pay each year for the 3 years?

-edit I think it is for the 3, madness!
I think the Audi lifecare thingy and their GAP was added to my estimates, and was checking in a round an additional 1000 on the start price.
Yet Gap can be had for £120. Seems a big saving.
I must check my own insurer, just out of interest will give them a ring tomorrow.

Currently speccing an S-Line A3 as a company car, is it worth paying the extra for the Technology pack with the 7" screen?

It comes with the 5.8" screen and 2D nav as it is, can't find much detail or pics/vids on either though.

Ideally, what options you cannot live without and how you find the car on a day-day basis...

Only option I couldn't live without? B&O.

It comes with the 5.8" screen as standard but not the nav, that's £500 for the basic system, then £1500 for the Tech Pack.

Is it worth it? Objectively it's a ridiculous amount of money for what it gives you. Compared to the basic nav, which is perfectly decent, you're paying £1k extra for the better screen really. There are a few other bits like DVD player, 10GB of HDD storage for music and 3D nav but frankly they're all pretty much gimmicks - you're paying for the better screen.

Whether that's worth it is up to you but have a look at both. The bigger screen isn't just larger, it's much higher resolution and does look far better than the standard one.

One option that is a must is the 3 spoke wheel on all audi's its so much nicer in everyway imo.

Only the SE has a four-spoke wheel, the Sport & S-Line have three-spoke ones, flat-bottomed on the S-Line.

Doesn't tech pack give you cruise control/rain sensors, light sensors etc, or is that something else?

edit:my mistake that's teh comfort pack. I have the comfort pack on mine but not the tech pack, I can't say I've noticed not having it. You'll probably spend most of your time with the screen down anyway though when not using the nav!

I think you have a 14 day cooling-off period on the gap insurance, so you should be able to ring the insurer when you get home, cancel the insurance and get the refund, then get cheaper insurance at ala.co.uk.

I've heard a story of a bloke who said he'd take PCP, gap insurance etc to the dealer, got a decent discount because they saw £ signs for the commission, then turned up with a debit card and cancelled the gap insurance and got cheaper cover! :)

Another +1 for ALA for GAP Insurance - we took a policy out last September when we bought our new A1 - dealer wanted nearly £500 for the same cover we bought from ALA for around £120. Add to that the TCB and discount code.....no brainer!

Am I right in thinking both the 5.8" and 7" are controlled by the dial located by the gear lever?

The SD based nav is a mandatory option on my scheme, with the option of bumping it up to the Tech-pack with 7" screen which is another £30pm. I'm only keeping the car for 6 months so not sure it's worth the extra since I'll already have nav - just not in 3D, and I won't ever use a DVD player.

Can you just wander into an Audi garage and ask them to show you both systems if you have no intention of buying a car from them?

Yes both use the wheel. Don't see any reason why you can't wander into a dealer - they're not to know whether you're planning on buying or not.

Will it by any chance cost 2% a month to put it on? If so £20 a month for a slightly bigger screen on a car you're going to ditch in 6 months seems like a waste of money to me.

2% yeah, Tech Pack is £1500 so £30pm for the 7" screen with 3D nav and HDD etc. I'm with you on the why bother if I'm changing the car in 6 months, then again I could just get another A3 with the same spec again - just trying to work out if it's worth the extra cost.

Why are you going to ditch the car in six months?
I have to change the car every 6 months or 8500 miles, whichever comes first.

True, I might just do that :)

Interesting, do you work for a car company?
Seems to be a very swift swap over of cars, don't they get murdered on depreciation?

If you start speccing bits and bobs, it might have to be factory made and you would be looking at close to three months for delivery if they don't have a stock option for you.

This has made me severely depressed at the fact I've just bought my GAP insurance from SEAT at £299 when ALA have quoted me £90. Sigh...

If you've only just bought it check your documentation as you should have a 14 day cooling off period in which you can get a full refund from the dealer.

As above ^^
Actually, you can sometimes play the game with a dealer and get a slightly reduced overall price like this. Buy car with GAP, benefitting from slightly lower price as dealer makes some pennies (read: a lot!) on the GAP.....then, once you have the car, cancel the GAP under regulatory cooling-off period :)
