Audi owners in here!

Erm, the current S4 is neither 3.2 or 4.2 . It's a 3.0 V6 with a nice supercharger. Meant to be pretty good. Same engine as in the A6 3.0 TFSI (but in that they detune it to 300HP).
Will probably be looking for an A6 Avant with the 3.0 TFSI later this year, and with just a new pulley & mapping you've then got ~380HP.

No idea why or how I've missed this thread before.

Am looking for any advice as I'm thinking of getting an S4 3.2, would like the auto so am looking for any pros/cons on the auto and what options that I should be looking for that are must haves.

Not decided on a budget yet and this may not occur as I overheard the wife talking about paying of my daughters student loan the other day but until then I'm going to keep on looking :)

If it's the s-tronic box (which is will be) then IMO there are no cons. It's an automated manual with a dual clutch so will full power it will relase the cluth on one gear while enging the clutch on the other resulting in very quick changes and also unoticable when not razzing it. You'll get teh flappy paddles on the steering wheel as well as pushing the gear stick to the side for up and down manual (although there really is no need for this unless you want to ride high in the revs for no reason:p). After driving a car with the s-tronic box I do wonder why audi bother making cars without it.

Of course there are cons, every transmission choice is a compromise. With the S Tronic box the compromise is that it cannot offer the levels of smoothness and refinement of a good conventional automatic. Whether that matters to you or not is personal preference, but you cant say there are no cons.

I was thinking about the B6/ B7 which is a 4.2 V8

Hi, I am looking at the possibility of a 2013 A3 saloon, either a Sport but probably a S-Line, however I am wondering about the performance of the 1.4 petrol engine and how it would compare to my remapped 1.6 ecoboost. Obviously it won't be as good as my remapped engine but has it enough low down 'grunt' and pull? Also, how are the S-Tronic boxes? I drove a new Ibiza recently with a 7 speed DSG box and it was not very good at all and felt like a ordinary automatic in the way it kicked down.
Cheers,
Chris

I have a new a3 1.4 cod 140 sline stronic so anything you need to know just ask. I have mine for work but mostly gets used for personal use etc it's my first auto and I love it and would happy to have another after this one.

Being lighter than the old a3 it's a bit better to drive and even having the s line suspension and 18" alloys the ride is a lot Better than I was expecting. I came from a Mini Cooper s (61 plate) and never short of power for over taking and on to work and back I get 45-50 mpg.

There is 5 different drive modes which obviously effects this as you won't get near that in dynamic due to the way the gear box keeps the car in lower gears and in the power band. All in all I've had it 2 months now and love it only extra I got for mine was the b&o sound system which also is amazing.

Very few Fox, if any. The S-Tronic in the our new S5 is smoother than my Mclaren and miles smoother than our PDK was. In fact, it's probably 99% as smooth as the 8 speed ZF auto in my F-Type which is regarded as the best automatic transmission ever made.

If I have one *tiny* criticism of the S-Tronic it's that in its quest for smoothness, there's an increase in shift time, especially on the downshifts, when compared to the PDK.

Hi leon4112 and thanks for your reply. So would you say the engine pulls ok from below 2000rpm, does it run out of 'puff' early on in its rev range? I know I should try and test drive one first as it is the only way I would find out but I am grateful for any advice really. I was also thinking of dropping the s line suspension as a no cost option so how is it on rough roads. All the road tests seem to say it is pretty harsh, and 18" wheels make it worse. The extras I'm thinking of are the technology pack, privacy glass, folding mirrors, comfort pack with the front and rear sensors, light and rain sensor pack, interior light pack, cruise and lastly the keyless advanced system.

Does anyone know how cars get listed on the Audi AUC site? I remember Housey saying that BMW dealers get given a list of cars they can choose to stock, and only when a particular dealer has chosen that car will it then appear on the AUC site (so if you go into a dealer with your spec requirements they could consult their list and find you one that you can't see on the AUC site yet).

Also, I've been looking at the Audi AUC site, and all the cars that ticked my requirements had similar plates. OY62, OE61, and OU13 are the last three that I saved in my favourites. Is that just a coincidence, or with that registration are they all going to be ex-demo/courtesy/management cars or something?

Hi, I went to the Audi dealership in Eastbourne, never meet a more unhelpful and sullen bunch of sales people. He did tell me that they'd be having a saloon in about a couple of months time so I left my phone number with him to ring me when it was. I asked to see a sportback and he showed me a customers car, nice one. He also stated that all the A3's are all the same. I e-mailed him when I got back and still haven't had a reply. Seems like Audi do not want my business. Ford give me a much nicer time, friendly and they engage in conversation with you..

ok so my hunt is still going on and on and on and on and on..... so i;ve started to have a look at so slight varients from the 2.0t quattro s-line a4 i'm after.....

can anyone tell me why this car is so cheap?!....

done half the mileage of the petrol cars I've looking at (sub £13k), not s-line.... but damn is it kitted out!!! It's a pretty beast car in all fairness and am slightly tempted.... but would know I would forever clogging up the DPF so that would have to go bye bye :p

^^ looks great, and especially for the price!
One of the very earliest models, but really good spec and looks very tidy. Forget the 2.0TFSi and grab one - you know you want to......even has DRLS.....and performance/economy will be pretty decent too.

My first thought was that was very cheap but a few SEs are available around that price, it is a great spec as it is an early model and if I remember correctly Audi delayed the S-Line model resulting in a lot of high spec SE models. I wouldn't worry about the DPF on the 3L my sister in law had one for three years and it was used almost exclusively round town and it didn't have any issues with the DPF.

any pic's ? did you get any extra's added?

Thanks nam, I'm really only interested in the saloon as well, if I can afford it. I just think that the sportback has identity crisis, it tries to be a 5-door hatchback but put the roof rails on it and it looks like an estate. The saloon will be rarer on our roads too which bring some exclusivity and will stand out from other cars.
The salesperson did reply to my e-mail on Monday and when the saloon is in I am hoping for a test drive..
