Audi owners in here!

Two completely different cars. If you're going for the 8P S3 it's basically a golf so running costs are low and the ability to tune on these are good.

A lot of people have made the transition from an S3 to a B7 RS4 some love it and some don't. Most people complain about the lack of torque though and then the running costs. A new genuine set of front brake discs come to £1000 alone!

Not comparing them at all. I agree, they're completely different cars.

As I said the RS is the wildcard here. Fully aware itll be expensive my concern is whether it'll be unreasonably expensive and troublesome.

Only you can make that choice, I could afford to run one but would I want to potentially spend a few grand for when the clutch goes and the brakes need work. No thanks!

If it's an everyday car I'd go with the S3, more of a weekend car B7 RS4 but that's my opinion and you may have more or less disposable incoming and are comfortable with the running costs.

Was going to make a new thread but thought I'd just throw it in here. Anyway, I'm after a 2.0tfsi TT Coupe, is 11k enough for a decent one?

Can they throw up any surprises? Common faults? Anything worth knowing about them as I'm really not sure where to start with these.

Cheers.

I had a 2013 A6 on hire a while back, I couldn't really see where the 'tech' was any different to a current A4 with the tech pack high, well apart from the incredibily tacky looking pop out screen.

But the A4 underpinnings are getting on for 6 years old, so its daft to spend a huge chunk of money on one, when such great deals are available on the A6.

Ive a B7 RS4 and its NOT cheap to run and mines relatively low mileage and well cared for. Tyres all round £1000, Front discs and pads £1000, Tax £500 a year, 20mpg 220/240 miles a tank if you are lucky. Ive extended the warranty on mine, otherwise the bills on mine would have been circa 7k this last year (instead of the 2k) ive actually paid.

Things that go wrong are expensive (DRC can be £600+ a corner) Oil cooler and pipes is £1500. Ive had Steering pumps and parts go which would be £1500. Assuming you go to Audi.

Epic motor in every sense but if you add everything up it probably costs me £750 a month all in to run it (petrol, insurance, tax, running costs etc)

In my opinion the saloon looks far better. Also, it doesn't share any body panels with the SB, has a slightly longer wheelbase and a wider track so it may well ride better. I've got one coming, hopefully, before xmas and I will post up some photos when I get it...

I don't feel it (A4 > A3 saloon) is a downgrade. Maybe slightly smaller, but in terms of build, features, appearance, it feels better in almost every conceivable way (or at least the sportback I've driven did).

Do you particularly love being obtuse?

Im guessing you, like me, havent fallen in love with the A4. I just havent bonded with my A4 at all. I need the space so the A4 will stay, but you as a enthusiast, surely a 3 series, or a better drivers car than anything VAG would suit you? It does seem,at the very least, a sideways step to move to the A3 saloon. I had a A3 SB for a day and it didnt seem superior to the A4 at all, in anyway, still had horrid steering, and everything else just seemed like it came from a slightly lower model and the same cruddy 4 pot diesels :(

On another note, i've been driving a A6 3.0 tdi Quattro, and my god, what a joy to drive. That will be my next move if i end up with another diesel.

I really disliked the F30, so that's a no-go. The 1-series is just utterly foul, and the F10, whilst lovely, is too big really, I simply don't need the space, this is why although I like the idea of a new A6, I doubt I'd go for it.

What I'd really like is a 6-cylinder diesel in the A3 saloon.
