Australian Grand Prix 2012, Albert Park Circuit - Race 1/20

Reliability issues. :p

Like the Mercedes cover, looks like Torro Rosso spent most of their budget on the car. :D

Right! First race prediction:

1. Hamilton
2. Vettel
3. Button

I think McLaren have the better car this year, just. Vettel will put it on Pole, but across the course of the race, Hamilton will prevail.

Vettel
Button
Hamilton

Part of me doesn't want to put Vettel 1st, but deep down I think he will have the pace out of the blocks to win at a canter.

Rest of the top 10 is a complete lottery IMO

One for arknor, just watched the Inside Grand Prod preview for Australia and they talked about Schumacher. Saying that they expect a decision on his future in F1 by Hungary (which we knew), but then went on to say that if he does retire Mercedes are eyeing up.... Lewis Hamilton!

LOL what? First I've heard of that! Thought I would ask our resident Mercedes expert. So arknor, any truth in that, or just Motors TV picking names from a hat to fill 30 minutes of air time?

Why would they not consider him? Pretty obvious thing to say tbh.

Merc do have potential to be as good as Mclaren or Red Bull, just depends whether they can get things right or end up doing a Honda (or Toyota) again.

Yeah of course they will have their eye on him as his contract is up, but the way it was reported was as if Mercedes had come out and openly said they are looking to sign Hamilton, which to my knowledge they haven't.

It all depends k. this year I think. If McLaren can't perform I imagine Hamilton will be looking elsewhere, and is Merc do well I imagine they will catch his eye. Webbers seat at Red Bull must be top of his alternatives list though.

Definitely haven't read that anywhere, and I am sure that such news would be well known.

Mercedes wouldn't be a wise jump IMO, but a move to red bull would seem pretty likely. I reckon he would be better off staying at mclaren tbh.

Yeah he's good mates with Rosberg, weren't they team mates in a lower formula?

Personally I think a change would be good for Lewis. Merc just need to prove they have the goods, whereas Red Bull already have. Can't see anyone else on the grid offering him a good enough drive to interest him (assuming Ferrari won't want him alongside Alonso)

I read a few journo tweets about that during testing.

Apparently if Schumi doesn't renew, Mercedes have already lined up a replacement driver. That being Hamilton.
