Austrian Grand Prix 2016, Spielberg - Race 9/21

Very enjoyable race.
Probably one of my favs this year.
The 3 tyre thing is the best thing to happen to f1 in years imo. And it isn't artificial.
Still think all tyres should be allowed each race but still pretty declared and no compulsory tyre but must use 2

Liked the front battle, even if it may be the last. Which is a shame.

Glad the penalty is small

Did they say that when Schumacher parked it in Monaco?

Schumacher was good. Rosberg isn't.

It's a shame that this is being lost in all the noise from the other crap around F1. Its not perfect by any means, but opening up the tyre strategies has been a massive improvement. Theres still a lot wrong with the tyre rules (allocation per weekend, the Q2 rule, the use of 2 compounds, etc), but the fact we can now see very different strategies across the grid is an overall plus.

Sainz in a Mercedes would be good.

I'm not sure on him, he's had some pretty poor races as well as some good ones. He doesn't look aggressive enough with overtaking for me. Was it Australia he was stuck behind a slow Renault for an age unable to get past, unwilling to make the move. Then you have Russia(I think) where his brakes were overheating and the team told him repeatedly to lift and coast and manage the temps or he wouldn't finish the race... to which he changed nothing kept pushing and crashed out.

he's got plenty of time to get more aggressive and be a bit more sensible but while he's good I'm not sure he's that good.

Of the current field I think Perez would suit the other seat at either Merc or Ferrari. He's probably the guy outside of a top team who is outperforming his car and team mate the most. Frankly he was pretty good at Merc, he was just, it felt like he thought he was the no.2 driver and was expected to bring the car home safely rather than push it to the limit at Mclaren. They told him he needed to be more aggressive and the very next race he passed Button and did well and had a lot of decent performances. I think the early impression of him being a bit soft stuck with him undeservedly.

He's showing the aggression, pace, tire management, good passing moves and good car management at FI as well. His race craft is solid, he maybe struggled with qualifying at Mclaren and up till last year but he's been stronger in the past year or so, stepped up his qualifying game without sacrificing race performances.

I hope we don't get team orders. With how obviously favored Rosberg is on strategy and pit stop performance, it'll be a free WDC for him. Wonder if Lewis would ignore them.

I'm pretty sure Lewis would ignore them, he's a three times world champion, whereas his teammate is just a nobody in a great car.

Fan's wouldn't like it either.

Tbh Mercedes are already doing pretty much everything other than outright telling Hamilton to let Rosberg win and Hamilton is still winning anyway. Unless they resort to basically refusing to service him in pit stops theres not much else they can do?

The radio rules would prevent the team from being able to tell him to drive slower, or warn him of fictionional issues to make him slow down.

I would be funny to see them try though. "Rosberg is faster than you", "Yeah, in his dreams!"

Lewis should be able to take it cleanly in Silverstone. He's been on pole the last two years there and obviously has home advantage. Meanwhile Nico will be crushed after yesterday and won't be 100% in the right frame of mind.

Be interesting to see how Mercedes screw Lewis over :p :p

Rosberg has been responsible for all the crashes they have had, plus the appalling pull up at Monaco, he is not worth reaining. He is such a child. Get Wehrlein in.
Andi.

They won't ditch him because Mercedes want their German driver.

He's a spoiled brat is what he is. Had everything handed to him for his entire life (including his racing career - just look at the teams he drove for) and now he's not getting "his" world championship so he's having a tantrum.

There's something that isn't adding up about all of this. Toto is supposedly trying to look after team interests, which includes not pinning blame on either driver. However Rosberg is happy to go on video in his private jet and contradict both himself and Toto, blame Lewis and even go as far as to admit he ran deep on purpose and not even mention any brake issues, and he does all this knowing he has no contract for next season. Why does he have such confidence to behave like this on and off the track? It's like he's untouchable and knows it...

He's just an entitled, over-paid man-child who thinks he can do no wrong. I bet you that video will be talked about in a Mercedes meeting somewhere as another example of Rosbergs lack of self-control.
