Avatar: The Way of the water (Dec 2022)

Hard to imagine Cameron lending himself to crap, so hopefully and with mixed but early good reviews I and friends will already go see this shortly after all.

If its like first one and same old same old worn out story, will look beyond that, its hard to imagine anything new plot wise but a continuing story for this series now and simply wont mind, some of us here predicting rubbish should be cutting some slack I think :)

Avatar 3 is made already too I think? but a further one is dependent on the release of these two follow ups.

Is it the best movie series in the world? Nope, but is it worth the watching? I certainly think so ... I'll be going and putting several friends bums on seats too, my local Cinema made a massive upgrade just before Covid and than it had to shut, now its open again its clearly struggling .. use it or lose it Cinema wise folks, lots of them are closing down it seems.
from what I understand from the various reports, avatar 2 and 3 were entirely shot back to back as well as a small bit of avatar 4. avatar 3 just need post production being done to it, where avatar 4 need move into production i.e. being filmed. it also report that when the script for avatar 4 was handed to the big wigs it was return with no notes on it just holy F~@# was mention in regards to their reaction to it. soon find out got ticket book for Friday afternoon showing in Isense 3D.

4 will be straight to streaming
3 will flop
.not being an a hole but where is this all going.
The same dumb characters Vs the same dumb humans .
The same planet...
A new ecological subject itll be rhinos causing global warming

Three hours in a cinema to watch Johnny Goodboy betray humanity yet again in his quest to crush that blue cat poon. First movie is still the the best visual experience i've ever seen in a cinema though, I can't help but think the story/acting for this one will be even worse.

I'm sure I'll see it at some point. Won't be rushing out to the cinema to see it though, just don't think it's interesting enough and it costs far too much these days.

Yeah, this. The first Avatar was kind of bad but also an amazing spectacle. It worked because it did so much new. The first really impressive film in the new 3d era, with this stunningly realised virtual world just dripping with beauty. But 3d is a gimmick - worth experiencing once or twice but no more than that - and stunning virtual worlds are something that we've all seen so many times now it's more expected norm than cinematic treat.

So what is there to rush out for in this sequel?

I agree, The 2 top standout cinema experiences for me were the Matrix and Avatar, both movies brought something new to the table, I think I went twice to see both, amazing experiences. From what I have read the effects are greatly improved from the first so I am going to take a punt and go over Xmas, decent movies in the Cinema are dying off.

I thought the whole point of this was to immerse the viewer in water. Something that wasn't possible with technology before.

I remember watching Avatar at the cinema in 3D and came out thinking what a great experience I'd had. Watching the film a couple of times in 2D on a decent TV and sound system it's kind of average.

Still booked to see the 2nd on on 28th December, but mainly because we get six cinema tickets a year via the bank, so may as well use them for a true cinema experience, which I expect this to be. But I doubt I'll be blown away by it as a film or story though.

I've not seen any trailers either, so I have no idea what to expect.

Jesus Christ.
I had to take a slash and something Major happened.

Visuals 11/10
Story so overly long I was sad 5/10

If this was 2h ok 3h my god. Edit.

If it was 10 years ago... I might have cared too.

I can’t stand these overly long films. Might catch it on home release.

The cinema screenings seem popular though.

Has Kermode been skimping on his meds again?

Cameron has had a crazy career, incredibly few films directed but the first and third highest grossing films of all time, and real classics like Terminator 1&2 and Aliens among them.

So? That has no bearing on how good or bad this film is.
