Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - *** WARNING: SPOILERS ***

Something that bugged me about this...

If Thanos had the power to do anything with the stones/Gauntlet and the whole point he was making was that the universe had a finite amount of resources and would run out of resources unless the population was kept in check then how come he didn't just use the Stones/Gauntlet to double/triple the universe resources instead and leave the population as it was.

Same net effect and nobody has to die.

is that really going to help? will that make the universe a happier place to be, or make the people in it better off just by giving them infinite resources?
i think he wants the people to learn to be better rather than give them everything like spoilt children.

then again, he is quite mad so.....

Most likely it was because of the way Thanos thinks.

People across the cosmos will only continue to spread like a plague and dwindle resources again. A more effective approach would have been to send a message across the stars. "I have culled 50% of the cosmos. Do not make the same mistake again.". Remember, he specifically stated in the film that after reducing the planet of Gamora by 50%, it is now a paradise, because they are not trying to overpopulate again. In short, this is a proven effective way to getting the desired result. The other is not and most likely won't solve the problem in long term.

As an alternative, why not use the power of the stones to fix the birth rate to 1 or 2 per living thing instead..

Or fix the amount of living years per species...

There are lots of alternatives that wouldn't involve killing half the population of the universe... however as aardvark quite rightly pointed out...

Based on the comics, Thanos is killing because he likes it, and he's trying to win the love of Death, who originally stoked his aberrant personality. However, Death is in love with Deadpool, and thus part of the Fox licencing deal. So Marvel have gone half way with Thanos' motivation, but you can't get the Death side of it until Disney buy's the Fox licenses and get Deadpool unified with the MCU.

A thoroughly entertaining 2hrs30mins that would have been...

He says it was his destiny but I agree with your point. Problem is the directors messed around with his character. He is no longer a being intent on destroying the Universe on a whim to impress Death and win her affection. They have him doing it for seemingly "altruistic" reasons. Whether or not you can accept this will gain her attention, is another matter?

i thought i was going to hate thanos's new motivation but it worked pretty well for me.
They could always bring death into it later - in fact now could the start of his obsession.

I would like to see this as Thanos is too much of a significant character to dispose of given the fact he goes on to replace Death as one of the major powers in the Universe in the Infinity Siblings. He's become everybody's favourite villain so it would be stupid to kill/replace him.

I think the problem I have with it is Thanos just didn't' come across as the Mad Titan like he does in the comics and his motivation for killing half the population of the universe was in some ways justified.

Thanos just wasn't scary, take away his need to impress Death and win her affections and being as mad as a bag of cats and he is just a guy doing something for the "Greater Good".

Too much of a good-doer willing to make choices nobody else will. Tbh I preferred the comics. There are no issues or inconsistencies with his characterisation. What you see is what you get on the day and is subject to change any other day. In the Cinematic Universe you only get half a story.

I quite liked that about thanos to be honest. It was better than your generic rule or destroy the world.
Sometimes he allies himself with the rest of the Marvel Universe against greater threats so he's nowhere near as one dimensional a character as the Cinematic Universe would have you believe.

.
Marvel Studios has announced that Avengers: Infinity War will be released on Digital and 4K UHD on July 31st. The film is available to pre-order on iTunes now.

The announcement did not mention the Blu-ray and DVD release of Avengers: Infinity War, but that usually follows about a week or two after the digital release. Fans should probably expect to find Avengers: Infinity on all home media in early to mid-August.

Awesome action, but didn't live up to the hype. It felt a little bit flaky in parts and Thanos needed to not have a care in the world/universe, as it all felt lovey dovey at times.

Naw you can't get the Death side of it as he is next in the Bill and Ted Sequel !! ;)

Did anyone else watching the battle scene on Wakanda think "Phantom Menace" ??!! I was waiting to see if Jar Jar appeared with a bit of trooper stuck to his foot shooting baddies. :)

No, you weren't the only one. I too saw the similarity and was expecting the same.

Overhead panning shot of green lands as Troops assemble.
One side deploy a massive Shield Barrier against opposition.
Personal shields are also deployed in shape of shields on arm.
Attacks from opposition cause massive explosions on the Shield Barrier.
Enemies storm through eventually and both sides charge each other.

Almost scene for scene really. Would have loved Jar Jar to make even the briefest of pseudo cameos only for the Finger snap to rid us of him after. :p
