Average waiting times?

Tbh fox, i was going to post some figures about how much depreciation you suffer each day / year etc, but i feel our effort is wasted.

My keyboard buttons are only rated to be pressed 1million times before the avarage failure rate is reached, i would hate for you to use valuable keyboard presses unnessesarily.

Oh its £11 every day and thats just the losses on the car not factoring in extra finance and running costs.........

Please please please don't do this. You'll regret it in a few months when you get bored of the car :( I know that new car feeling is really nice and all but it soon wears off :(

its more expensive to insure a 3 door lol :p

What? You actually care about insurance?

I don't get it.

You don't give a damn about a car that is going to lose THOUSANDS in value but you WILL chose your £15k car based on one thats going to cost a hundred quid a year less to insure?

How does that work?

This is further evidence that you really have not considered the financial implications of this. All you appear to care about is the monthly payment.

Someone has to buy cars brand new, or then the sensible people wouldn't be able to buy them second hand...

Think about the people who always buy a brand spanking new car every year or two, its these people who allow us to buy our "nearly" new 54/05/55 plate cars, for much less....

The thousands can be stacked on top of a 5 year finance package, insurance cant :D

No offence mate, but I'm morbidly excited to see a thread from you in a year complaining about how much money you've lost and how you wish you'd listened to all of the very valid advice in this thread.

You're making a very bold decision here, and it's one that young people make every day. I know at least five people who've made, in my opinion, the wrong decision and got a car on finance at a young age.

Every single one of them wishes they hadn't done it. One of them is under constant threat from the bailiffs.

I, on the the other hand, am the envy of all my mates. Not only can my £1500 205 GTi completely lash their brand new Corsa SXis, but I own it outright, 100%, and all it took was a couple of months of stacking shelves and going easy on the spending.

They have to go easy on the spending every day for the next five years or so. Then they have the problem of a rapidly depreciating formerly new car sat on their drive. And that's if they don't decide to trade in and continue a whole new load of finance. No doubt, some of them will - despite claiming to have learned their lessons.

My advice is walk away. Get something nearly new if you're so bothered. Obviously you're very excited about the prospect of owning a new car, and you're probably worried about losing face if you don't get one because you've told everyone you know.

Sod them, be sensible.

its gonna be a 5door, (spent 2 days deciding lol) going for the 5door because i am the only one of my mates who can drive so its nice they just all pile in without fuss. Colour i wouldnt mind a dark blue, i would go for black but it shows everysingle speck of dirt and every single nick lol, as far as navigation if the worst comes to it my mum has a tom tom go i can always errr....borrow when needed hehe, ill ask about the satnavs they were giving away, or see how much it is to get one built into the car

yeh hopefully i wont have to wait longer than a month probably depends on the colour

I think this proves it, really. All of your mates are piling in your car because only you can drive. I know what it's like. You're excited.

"I'm getting a new Astra! Definitely!" Repeat every day for a month.

"where's the Astra?"

"Testing it tomorrow!"

"Nice one! Everyone! He's getting a new Astra!"

You'll have that sinking feeling when you sign on the dotted line. I really shouldn't do this... Sack it, I've already told everyone I'm getting one.

Please, tell me I'm wrong. But I've been exactly the same before. With minor purchases in comparison to a car, but in relation to my wage packet at the time, they were far from minor. I've regretted every one of them.

This is that situation 100x.

your all forgetting i havent even driven the bloody thing yet, i might not like it, you just dont no.

ok and ive spoken to my parents and they are ok with it. and if you think its bad parenting then keep your comments to yourself, i have come to an agreement with my parents if something goes wrong don't you been worried, its all been well thought out.

like i say the only reason im changing is because my car has a lot of problems, that arent worth fixing. otherwise i would keep it and keep driving it until i run it into the ground

You're simply replacing a car that "has a lot of problems"?

Then why the hell don't you pick something up for a couple of grand?

Hell, you could get a loan and pick up a decent ELISE for the money you're talking about.

Not that you'd want to, or that it'd be a good idea of course, I'm just putting things into perspective.

You'll probably love it but this may be little to do with whether its any good.

The first car I ever drove was a Skoda Felicia 1.3L. I thought it was awesome. It went forward when I pressed the accelerator, and went around corners when I turned the wheel. It was great.

It wasn't until I drove other stuff that I realised quite how dire it was. I had nothing to compare it with.

So, drive the new Astra. Then say thanks, leave the showroom, and drive the new Focus. Then pop to the VW dealer, and drive the Golf. Then call into Seat and take out a Leon, etc.

Do not make a decision until you've driven the competition.

ok if you think people use me as a taxi service thats complete crap, i give my friends a lift because i offer, and they also give me petrol money aswell, even though i dont ask for it. ok and even i had told everyone im getting one then decide against it i would just tell my mates and everyone i decided against it and if they go well you said you were getting one, ill just say well now im not.

i won't go along with it because i've told everyone, ill get the car if i like it and want it, not because others want me to get it. simple as.

Too much effort fox, he's spent a week thinking about this!

edit: didn't say you were a taxi, mate. I just know the position you are in. I've been there. And the last thing I would have ever done in that position was admit it.

dude i have driven the competition.

my dad owns a salvage yard 9 times out of 10 i get pickings of what to drive around the yard, infact i have driven the leon and loved it insurance is like 3800 on it though otherwise i would lean towards it, i think the focus is just puss - including most fords - golfs are lovely but starting at 25k.....errr no.

and for all you ford huggers out there if others like the focus then yeh good for em, don't blame them i can see how they are a really nice car i just think its horrible and i just generally don't like fords

One more thing.

Please don't take what these people are saying in this thread as an insult or think that everyone is just here to give you a hard time because they disagree with your decision.

There's a very strong opinion in this thread and that opinion says "don't do it". These people are trying to help you. Some have experienced what you are first hand. They wouldn't say what they're saying just to wind you up.

I'd say 9/10 people in this thread are against it. Majorities aren't always right, but for the love of god at least take them into consideration. A majority doesn't form for no reason.

And insurance bothering you?! You're bloody mental!

You could pick up a fantastic car for 5 grand. A car that evo would still give 5 stars. Insurance might be extortionate, but you'd still be paying half of what you would for a new astra on finance. It just doesn't make sense.
