Average waiting times?

The guy wants an astra, a new astra. Why is everyone foreced to justify every single decision they make within this forum? He asked a sensible question yet maybe 1 or 2 posts are actually on topic answering what he asked.

Life would be boring if we were all the same....

And this thread would be boring if we were all the same.

"About 3 months mate"

"yeah 3 months"

"3 months - oops someone already said that LOL!!! :D"

"Three months!"

It would seem a lot of the majority have tried there hardest, some even making the same mistakes themsevles, having been in the exact same position. there trying to help the kid as best they can but if he really wants to go out of his way to buy a car for that kind of money, which is a lot slower than my fiesta that i bought for 1/3 of the price, that handles a lot worse than it, and that has a dire interior, its up to him.

Becuase it's a discussion forum, so people discuss things.

He asked a sensible question yet maybe 1 or 2 posts are actually on topic answering what he asked.

So the problem is what? His question has been answered.

Life would be boring if we were all the same....

Just as boring as a forum where everyone has the same opinion?

Personally I don't like the astra however if you're pleased with it and financially secure I don't see the problem, 15k will probably be about 300-350 a month and if you're living at home (bit hard to live anywhere else really!) with a fairly well paid full time job and not many other outgoings it isn;t going to cripple you. Although there have been some horror stories about new cars they're the minority and getting a new car is also the feeling that for the next few years as long as you keep it serviced/maintained reasonably well you're going to have a very reliable car aswell as 3 years warranty should the worst happen.

He has driven the rest of the cars (round a slavage yard, not really the best place to test!) but he wants an astra fair enough thats not a problem everone likes diff cars, wouldn't be my choice but still.

What we are saying is why buy a new one over a 6 month old or pre reg one, save yourself 5k in the process.

Buying a mass produced box (and not a great one at that) new is stupid.

If i posted saying "hey guys, i want to kill myself, got any idea's" would you want everyones reply's to read "jump off a bridge" "aquire a gun and blow your own brains out" and "take some people you dont like with you"

or would you think more of the place if people were saying "dont do it" "heres the samaritans number" and "think of your family"

dude i have driven the competition.

my dad owns a salvage yard 9 times out of 10 i get pickings of what to drive around the yard, infact i have driven the leon and loved it

You drove them around the yard?

Err, dude, go and take a PROPER drive.

insurance is like 3800 on it though otherwise i would lean towards it,

No it's not. you've just not bothered to get proper quotes. Insurance on all these cars, trim level for trim level, is virtually the same. I can not imagine a situation where an Astra 1.6 would be insurable but a Leon 1.6 would not.

golfs are lovely but starting at 25k.....errr no.

Do you know anything at all about the market you are trying to buy from? I mean, starting at 25k? What? No Golf, not even the R32, has a basic list price of £25k. They are all cheaper.

A ridiculous analogy for a ridiculous argument.

Killing yourself is hardly going to arouse answers in the "do it" camp - not on this forum anyway.... I think everyone would agree that it's a bad idea.

Buying a new car, however, sparks debate because there is a lot of differing opinion.

Buy a new car is like killing yourself!! Expecially at a young age!

Your stuck with a rather large monthly payment for a long time, its not the most sensible of things to do, but who is sensible when young!!

At least the op has some parents that are willing to help him out if things go wrong. And wont go down the whole banckrupcy..lazy bum route!!

Could buy a 2000 reg 5 series bmw for £8000 with low millage!!?? And get a loan for the insurance?!

If you ask me this guy doesn't want to be helped. Sure, that may make him two sandwiches, a hot cross bun and 3 kit kats short of a picnic, but who are we to judge.

you dont no how big my dads yard is? so how can you possibly say go take a proper drive? for all you no its could be 5 miles long and plenty of opportunities to corner and drive about and for the record its almost 5 miles square

Surely that makes it the biggest breakers yard in the world ever? How does it handle on motorways? what about C roads and cobbled streets?

A 5 smile square yard? Wow. It's still not a road, is it?

Good god, I just saw some of the BMWs and Audis that could be had for much less than this money if you carried out the heinous act of buying second hand.

But then again, mmmmm, new car smell. That would win me over every time.
