B450 ITX System

ah. if already bought, then don't regret the purchase. it's still a very decent case, no doubt, especially if you're not going for crazy oc-ing.

He's ordered it, tamzzy. :)

I'm going to make him happier about his purchase, right:

I've built with the MATX evolve - personally, i found it a quality case - relatively pricey but the quality seemed to justify price compared to other case of similar price. Cooling wasn't an issue with extra fans and quality cooler. And with your addition of 2 quality Noctuas coupled with the NH-U12 you shouldn't have any thermal issues and the extra space for the GPU will certainly keep things frosty. Set up a decent fan curve and things will be nice a quiet too when browsing/working.

Here's a review to keep keep you happy - Clicky

Yeah, the Founders edition should compliment the case and board nicely - as for the RGB, no idea - i like subtle under lighting affects/faint glow (but my personal build components are subjected to complete darkness with padding).

Look forward to it - best of luck.

Hardware hints?

@Plec
I've made a few changes, unfortunately Ryzen 7 deal fell though and couldn't be honoured even though funds where taken.

So Ryzen 5 2600x was chosen as a replacement and discounted, with 2 games!

I managed to get the Asus Strix B450-I motherboard with bundled ROG SCABBARD mat, again on offer. I was also after a large play area so timing was right.

Think I mentioned about the CPU cooler change etc.

Hehe - nice save :D

Although, i did like my short time with the case - i honestly found it a quality unit.

would i personally pick it to build in?
probably not. but that doesn't mean it's not a decent case.
Of course not - you would pick a match box and then somehow squeeze a custom loop within it - The Tardis Build.

I made the mistake of showing a friend this who may wants an ITX build next year - and asked if i could similar.

It was brief discussion ending with with me suggesting he go **** himself. Although, i may have to play with water again :/

lol. i miss that crazy build. but if only just to show that matx isn't a limiting form factor, no matter what the nay sayers moan at.
but custom loop requires careful maintenance. the simplicity of having closed loop cooling is more than suitable for 99.9% of the general population.
(using a h100i v2 for the cpu and an evga 1080ti aio now)

/copies page, makes sure tamzzy's name is clearly visible (in this and his build thread) - copy and paste to email to sadistic, so called friend. Now has proof that even the builder of epic but nuts build validates CLCs - but still worry it won't be enough to dissuade doe eyed friend from his perverted lust for custom loops. (Especially as he wouldn't be getting his hands wet!)

Cheers @tamzzy :D

I'll spec the Obsidian - and explain he obviously couldn't get a sense of perspective or size from photos.

I must admit i'm tempted to use copper - i know a plumber who would probably be willing to help as i fixed his machine gratis when he was working on our renovation last year.

Nope that's nuts...

lol. copper piping. that is indeed nuts.
Yeah, watched a few vids and build logs - but if i had the urge to do a loop for myself I would consider experimenting with copper first, until i failed with alignment and opted for conventional materials.

Apologies, @Mr G missed this.

Shame about the 2700 - purely because of your streaming needs as the 2 extra cores would have been useful - did you consider the 1700 or is it mainly for gaming and casual streaming?

That's a quality board - packed with features in a small form factor. It should comfortably take a zen 2 so if you find yourself wishing for more cores, while streaming in the future, at least you have a solid platform for upgrading.

Think I mentioned about the CPU cooler change etc.
The Noctua - with yearning for shroud and black fans?

@Plec

I did consider the 1700 but after reading user feedback It seems the 2600 will be ample for my needs for gaming and casual streaming, until I decide to do this professionally.

The board offer was kinda tempting as it came bundled with that mat, and if reviews are true it's just an X470 with a B450 chipset for £139.

For a few quid more over the Gigabyte, it was worth it in my opinion.

To be honest the Noctua colours are kinda growing on me, at first it was a no but for performance I forgive it.

Also to mention I went for a crazy deal on a brand new EVGA G3 550W PSU for £59.99!

I've got a boat load of components on the way so hopefully this weekend the build is on!

If it's only casual streaming then you probably wont miss the additional cores too much - plus you'll enjoy the minor speed bump for your major usage.

As mentioned it's feature packed and quality board - a solid buy.

I don't buy ASUS anymore myself, if i can avoid it - their component quality is excellent (on the whole) - but their customer service sucks. I try to buy Gigabyte as long as the component can go toe-to-toe with it's nearest rival due to UK RMA and rep forum support. But, the reality is if your board isn't DOA (make retailer exchange if this is the case) you probably won't have to deal with the 'rendered brick wall' that is Asus's customer service.

TBH, Noctua colours have become a signature of quality - a discerning eye sees it and subconsciously forgives it, even if it looks a bit conspicuous within a build. They're easy to fit and you'll really appreciate the quality.

Nice deal - and ideal for your present spec.

Best of luck - hope all goes smoothly.

strix itx ( £139- 154) isn't a bad board , 6 x IR 3553 40A 2011 & 1x IR3555M 60A for the SoC vs Aorus ITX (£109-115) 4x IR 3556 50A 2015 phases & 2x IR3556 50A for SoC. Just hope you dont have to use ASUS RMA ! and least got it from a good reseller like OCUK or the other big ones!

gets some snaps up when your done!

The Strix was from a big reputable retailer so if DOA then shouldn't be an issue, apart from disassembly again.

I really appreciated the advise guys, made some good decisions on some quality components. It's been 4 weeks of solid reviews, user feedback and videos and looks like a solid setup and ready for Zen 2 eventually.

Suggest, building and running initial boot/test outside of the case - just short the pins to start if there isn't an onboard on switch - especially as it's an ITX build (although, you're using a MATX case so the build won't be as fiddly). Once you've established proof of life install into case - probably adds 10 minutes to the overall build - but worth it.

No worries - your research should all pay off.

Post if you run into any problems - our youngest isn't well so will probably be around at the weekend. I'll look out for alerts.
