Baby killers, what's the fastest you've done in your car?

160mph indicated in an E-Type race car in 1970'ish with no roof was EPIC, still remember my dads words, "don't tell your mum" :D

hah sounds familier, after a trip out with my step dad those words are usually uttered at some point in the journey.

150mph indicated (satnav suggests it over-reads by about 5mph at that point). It was still accelerating, but I was about to pass an unidentified vehicle, and if it was the feds then there'd be a major sense-of-humour failure, so I eased off.

Done close to 150ish mph in my bros M3 last summer on the QEW in Canada...granted it was like 3 am but he wanted to see just how fast his M3 which has been remapped to CSL specs could go.

Wasnt that scared to be honest as hes a damn good driver my brother....he scared me doing 30mph down his street as we were approaching a t junction at the end of his street...i actually was pressing pretty damn hard into the footwell...wondering when he was going to slam the brakes on lol.

Personally fastest ive ever been is around 120mph on the M11 at about 1am towards Stansted....again not overly fast and wasnt too scared...that was in my 1998 BMW 325i...which was sadly written off a few mths later thanks to a stupid driver who decided to pull out in front of me from a side street.

Is 17bhp really beyond the possibilities of a re-map if you screw emissions? Definitely can;t loose 100kg tough.

Yeah I'd imagine the main factor that makes the CSL a CSL over a standard M3 is the massive weight loss and any differences in other parts such as brakes etc...

17bhp would still be pushing it from a N/A engine that is already so powerful though without other modifications I would have thought, could maybe change/improve the torque curve or something though.

The CSL's (The CLS is a Mercedes saloon) main party peice is the noticeable lack of weight compared to an M3, and also the simply epic induction system. You can't get either of that through a remap. It's a bit like saying that if you remap a 335i to 343bhp you have remapped it to 'M3 Spec'.

Rather missing the point.

This has been done to death and relies somewhat on the pixie dust known as rolling roads but the general consensus is that a good CSL will show around 355-360bhp on a rolling road and a good M3 will show around 330-335bhp on a rolling road, taking that across the various vendors of said pixie dust. The odd one or two of both have shown on or over the quoted numbers but in reality the CSL is around 20-25bhp up on a cooking M3. Tweaking it will only add horses to your current car in small doses, it won't take a car with 320bhp and turn it into a car with 360bhp.

I had the cruise control set at 135 (in a 55 zone) in my Taurus SHO for a good 10 miles. 2:00a going down a looonggg empty stretch in Tennessee. It had already been 20 miles or so since even seeing another car, so I decided to pick it up a notch. The car didn't mind that speed at all.

Saw headlights in the distance coming my way and thought to myself, "what are the odds that's a cop?", so I shut off the cruise and started coasting.

Sure enough, when he got within range, it was a cop. I hit the brakes for a controlled rapid deceleration, and he went past.

In hindsight I should have just kept going. It was a good 5 minutes before he finally found a spot to turn around and catch up to me. He clocked me at 95 in a 55 zone and gave me a $40 ticket. :p

Also pulled 139 (according to speedo) on my 1983 Honda Nighthawk 650 -- with a passenger -- in Texas -- during the day. :o

Autobahn in Germany was interesting. We were travelling from Augsburg to Mannheim and had the poor little Mustang 5.0 at it's max of 135. Headlights appeared behind us in the distance. Before we knew what happened, those headlights became tail-lights in front of us in the distance. It happened to be a ZR-1 Corvette (of all things in Germany :p) and he had to be doing in excess of 200 MPH somehow.

Highest speed on my satnav right now is 116 MPH, which happens to be the regulated top end of my V6 Mercury Milan.

You also can't get different camshafts, and lighter valves through re-maps either. Pity.

Mondeo - 105 indicated, and vibrations ahoy!
Clio 172 - 110 on a straight A road, without really realising it either! But theres pleanty of time to improve on that ;)
Mates Dawoo Matiz - 100 indicated, 2 up, down hill. Poo your pants.

Old A reg 1.2 nova - 100 down dual carriage way, felt like it was going to fall apart.
Old S reg (1998) 1.8 vectra - 120 down the M5, was empty though as late at night. Only checked if it could do it then went back to 80/90 ish.

Was in a head on collision going 80 when someone came the wrong way down the dual carriage way, was off work for 5 months & had to learn how to walk again after all the damage to my leg.
