Interesting about the red bull fuel pump, apparently its an fia supplied part, so all the cars are using it and they had found a potential problem before the race and some of the teams changed theirs out.

That racked up the second most laps, so I assume they did all the testing they wanted. Still not quite the same as an actual race though, with 20 cars on track, safety cars, etc.

Exactly. Plus even though they can seemingly follow better it doesn’t mean the car in front isn’t still going to boil the one behind still. :D

Just watched highlights on YouTube
Oh yes that pleased me greatly both RB retired
Karma is a, well, something ;)

shout to k-mag for good points early doors
Roll on Saudi; I’d doubt RB will have much time to fix things

Bit disappointing that the mercs are a second off the pace. Would be nice to see a three way fight at the top rather than then usual two way. I found the race leaving me not as satisfied as seasons gone by. I feel like in our pursuit to make things "better" by changing everything we've kind of gone backwards in some ways. I'm sure things will level in time but the field spread was high here and generally felt like things were less close and exciting. Last season was so good and close at the top that it kind of makes a mockery of needing any changes really but those were in progress before then anyway and were more aimed at stopping Merc domination which it has done.

I noted on here a while back that certain of our parish should enjoy Ferrari not being at the pointy end while they could because Ferrari would be back.

Hi guys! How's it going?

Put proper gravel traps back, then you will not need kerbs, at all a wheel over the white line and into the gravel.

There are also concerns about gravel traps that have led to their removal. I wonder whether they could put a, say, 1m wide strip of grass or gravel next to the track and have the broader run-offs beyond. Enough to punish a driver for dropping a foot over but no more than that. This race was a lot better than last season for staying on track so I hope that things will have improved this season.

The new regime seems more sensible: last season half the track was fair game but drop a wheel over on the wrong corner and your quali lap gets deleted but yesterday we saw Pérez go over on the final corner but as he clearly lost time as he struggled to control the car and that was the only reason he went over there was no penalty (at least I assume that was the reasoning).

Really happy with that finish.

So happy for Kmag too. Zhou and Bottas did a solid job too.

McLaren had a shocker. Really hope they can turn it around.

To be honest, I have no love for the Max/Horner/Helmut/Jos crew. But despite their rather toxic antics, I think it would be great for the season for RBR to remain competitive. So I actually hope they fix it so we have more teams in the mix.

A lot can happen in a season and even in a race. Merc really showing that finishing is important and when they bring upgrades in a few races time I think they will also be contenders for race wins.

I think that’s the most exciting aspect so far - the evolution of the season when multiple teams are showing real promise already. This may end up being one of the most gripping seasons of F1 in a good many years.

Less close? Didn't we have cars getting lapped twice last year and sometimes all the cars up until about sixth place were lapped? I don't think there were any double lapped cars today and only six drivers had to unlap themselves during the safety car.

I've been thinking about Merc's engine. I wonder whether they've repackaged it for their sidepodless design and then surprised the other teams with the new layout. Could it be that the customer teams were all struggling with cooling and had to run the engine turned down to avoid overheating?

So what do people think about the aero, reckon it made for easier following?

Massively. Unfortunately we still had DRS so overtaking was still all about that rather than pure driving.

I don’t dislike DRS particularly but I’ve always wondered what the point of it is? I mean, if you’re behind a car down a straight you’re going to get a tow regardless and thus a few km/hr extra to make the move? DRS just makes it a no brainer with people hardly bothering to defend.

Isn't it a historical band aid for when the cars couldn't follow closely to pass and as such it was introduced to alleviate that? Then it kind of stuck around... It looked really powerful when Max was trying to get Charles at the end of the pit straight but i can't help thinking that Charles was saving his battery for the second DRS zone where he kept taking first place back.

When it was introduced, the cars struggled with following so much it was aimed at simply allowing them to catch up with another car, because they were struggling that much to get remotely close approaching a turn.

It's easy to forget just how few overtakes there were in F1 before DRS was added. In the half dozen seasons before DRS was introduced, the average number of overtakes per race were 12.9, 19.2, 22.1, 20.3, 17.7 and 32.4.

Charles noted in his interview that he was allowing max to come by ahead of the DRS detection so he would have full DRS to counter attack.

Smart driving from Charles and he did it twice, so I feel Max should have had that sussed out after the first time and hung back in turn one to take advantage of the 2nd DRS zone. Had he done that, he may have been able to make a move stick.
