Baldur's Gate 3

I've been tempted by this with the 20% sale, and now it's matured for a good while I'm thinking that most of the bugs have been squashed, but from some of the comments above, it seems that there are still a lot of bugs in it. Are they game breaking type bugs?

Also, I'm hoping that it captures the feel of playing AD&D from when I was a teen way back in the 80's... does it do a better job of that compared to something like the original Dragon Age, or DOS2 ?

Finally, is it semi-on rails with the story actively takign the player forward, or is it more open word like Skyrim or Witcher 3 ?

I'm almost at the end of my latest playthrough, and I've not encountered any game breaking bugs. I should add that I'm playing with a "vanilla" install - no mods. The game is now in a more polished state, particularly in Acts 2 & 3, but I did encounter some minor technical issues in the latter stages of Act 2 ( game slowing down, keyboard sometimes not working properly ). I'd say give it a go ... very unlikely you'll get burned. Personally, I'd give the game an 8/10. It has a ton of content and represents good value, but I had more fun with the original Baldur's Gate and part 2 back in the day.

edit: And to answer your question about the story : it's semi-linear, definitely not open world. But there are multiple paths / endings to choose from. For example, depending on the decisions you make you could end the game early in Act 2. But I wouldn't recommend it !

Very similar to DOS2 in style and interface, so still a totally different experience from pen and paper D&D. With the advancements in AI it's inevitable that that kind of game is coming in some form or another, but BG3 isn't it. Still as awesome game though.

Completed this in about march as a dwarf barbarian. Decided to start my second play through as a wood elf ranger. Looking forward to seeing how this class develops and how my choices change. Will be doing no restarts on my dice rolls and going with whatever happens. Turned off the dice that make for fairer rolls in the options.

Been quite a few patches since my last play through but I don't remember many issues.
I'm also one of the rare players that quite enjoyed act 3.

Managed a few hours on this and got a few of my companions going to change my party a bit from my first play through.

First play through:
Lazael (romanced her)
Shadow heart
Gale

This time I'm going to swap lazael for astarian, who I managed to get to level 3 and picked thief class. Too early to decide if he's any good yet, kinda struggling to do sneak moves but he has quite good damage for two daggers in each hand.

Might swap Shadow Heart but might miss her guidance and healing, also she might be my romance partner aswell lol.

Wyll seems a bit average story wise but is he a good class to have in my party?

Edit: done a bit of reading and it seems healing in this is a bit pants and your better off having a damage dealer to end the fight quicker.
Might swap Shadow Heart for wyll or karlach.

Respec Shadowheart to a War cleric, including altering her abilities to raise her strength so she can hit stuff. She will now be a useful companion. The Trickery domain cleric is pants IMNSHO
Okay I'll take a look. Will this make a close combat user with a bit of magic damage aswell.

My party right now is:
Ranger
Wizard,
Thief
Shadowheart as a war cleric.

So I have two possibly three members long range attackers with not much hp so it's like I could do with a tanky team member, will shadow heart be that class if shes a war cleric. I could get her some decent armour and a shield.

War Clerics can wear heavy armour, add a shield and you've got a very high AC. Clerics should have a decent Con stat for concentration checks so that'll up her hp. For difficult fights bladeward may be her friend. However the BG3 AI will prioritise attacking enemies with low AC and as there is no taunt/threat mechanism they will happily run past your tank and wallop Astarion or Wyll if they're in range.

Personally I always use Astarion in a stealth range role (I prefer Thief to Assassin (YMMV) I use the 2 bonus actions as dash then hide).

Okay cool thanks, heavy armour and shield sounds a good choice.

Astarian I'm still trying to understand the stealth element, kinda tricky to be stealthy in the daytime and to sneak around cover.

I tend to think of it as some form of invisibility or notice-me-not type effect rather than simple hiding. As at the higher levels stealthy types can walk right past people with little chance of being spotted :)

New subclasses look great. Question or those that have multiple play through's of BG3; how much of the game/side quests do you tend to do on your play throughs? Do you stick to main quest only and skip side quests, or do you still explore every square inch of the map (again) in case there's stuff you missed on previous runs?
