I'll echo that - stick with vanilla for your first playthrough. There's tons of content and lots of cool things/stories/areas to find and it's mostly balanced. Mostly.
A vanilla play through is fine, there are IMNSHO a few QoL mods that I think are worth using. Via the inbuilt mod manager I'd suggest Improved UI, Improved hotbars (get the 16:9/UW version) mod manager fixes and tweaks (get the 16:9/UW version). These are all on the first page of the most popular mods tab.Ready to give this a shot. Ive seen a lot of mods for it. Is the vanilla version just fine for someone on there first playthrough? or is there something people would recommend as a must before starting.
OMG it's amazing. I've clocked 120 hours and am in Act 3 but still not finished it. My first D&D game too and I'm in love with it, never fails to put a smile on my face. It's one of those games where I'll be sad when I've finished it.Ready to give this a shot. Ive seen a lot of mods for it. I understand where you're coming from. I'm playing the game now, having stopped a playthrough last year due to bugs / lack of polish in the later acts. Bottomline is I don't think D & D translates all that well to a computer game ; in real life, the dungeon master would actively fudge dice rolls / situations to keep the players alive and involved. The computer can't do that - every outcome is binary. As a consequence many of the encounters, particularly in Act 1 when your party are low level, feel more difficult than they should. This situation smooths out somewhat as your party gains power and you become more familiar with the game mechanics / D & D rules. Additionally, all recent Larian games ( DOS 1 & 2 ) rely on environmental damage mechanics ie. applying elemental effects ( via barrels for example ) to balance the difficulty of encounters. If you don't grasp this mechanic, or find it clunky to use, you will struggle with some encounters - especially as the enemy will use them against your party. Finally finished this last night. Played the whole game on balanced, but just had enough and lowered the difficulty to easy on the final fight. The game started off ok, but the longer I played it the more I disliked it. Tons of bugs and the combat is just broken for me. The AI is not clever it cheats and together with the 80% miss rate makes combat frustrating.
Maybe as I'm getting older, just hit 50 , I'm getting worse at playing games, I know I'm not as patient either. Anyway just need to finish off the ending and can delete this off my pc. Not even contemplating a second playthrough.

You only have cloud saves, none local ? I ran into some weird performance issues in the back half of Act 2 eg. keyboard inputs not working, dialogue stuttering and/or not playing, but this has resolved for me in Act 3.55 hours into a great run. Enter the lower city for the first time (issues with loading times and fps suddenly) save game and reload.
Server error 223, try again server shuts down.
After a few hours of trying various methods* I cannot reload any save made in the lower city.
Looks like this run is over. So <beep>ed of.
* deleted cache, saved in the sewers, low graphics, checked for aggroed npc in wyrms crossing
Have you contacted Larian support ? I've heard they have helped some people recover bugged saves.local saves only
I'll give that a go but as its a modded run I'm not hopeful they'll helpHave you contacted Larian support ? I've heard they have helped some people recover bugged saves.
