Baldur's Gate 3

Tombstone has gracefully elected to defer downloading the game until after midnight to allow us peons a chance to play shortly after launch. :D
The caveat to the midnight download is that nobody is allowed to create a pet class, anyone cluttering the screen with pets immediately gives me allowance to break the midnight rule :D

I've skipped everything to do with this game so far apart from this guide. No idea how much of a mess will make playing it first time

Pretty much any class / party makeup is viable. Don't worry about min maxing unless thats where you get enjoyment from the game.

I believe the older games were turn order as well but there was no pause so it felt real time.

Should we start a pool for how long steam will be down at golive? :D

I think around an hour.
Real time with pause, but everything worked in turns as you said. There were autopause options in the menus, but not sure how far they went to turning it into a turn based game.

Ah that was it. There were quite a few auto pause options, it got close. Has been a very long time since I played them.

I do wish they'd brought attribute dice rolls into the game. It makes perfect sense in balance and extra code not to. But it doesn't feel right not to roll them :)

I still havnt decided what character to play. Just gonna wing it when creating one. I tend to go magic users, but so much looks good. Like Monks and Bards.

Same here, still haven't decided.

On another note, it doesn't seem like Nvidia will be releasing drivers for BG3?
With it having been in early access for the last 3 years it might well be that BG3 related tweaks have already come in previous drivers over that time meaning theres no need for a new driver

Its the flip side of the coin for me, my biggest complaint about BG1 and BG2, coming from a D&D background, was that they were not turn based combat. I found it counterintuitive to its D&D roots. So for me, BG3 being turn based is a big plus.

It would be nice for everyone to have a choice though, so it'd have been good if you could choose RT or TB and then everyone could play in the manner they wanted, for me though, turnbased like Xcom, Jagged Alliance, Pathfinder etc, big thumbs up :)

Being able to choose between RTWP and TB is a bad idea.

You can do that with Pillars of Eternity II and turn based in that is a real pain. It turns every little trash fight into a 30min battle. I prefer turn based but the pace needs to be designed for it. I gave up my turn based playthrough of POE2 around 20% in as I couldn't hack it. Tried the same thing in Pathfinder WotR as well. In that you can switch on the fly and I do real time for trash and turn based for mobs.

I did the entirety of Pathfinder 1 and 2 purely in TB, then again I do prefer turn based in games, it much much better fits me as it gels in my mind with all the turn based pen and paper and boardgames that I grew up on

My issue is that they've taken a game that was RTwP, and made it TB. I don't dislike TB, but I much prefer RTwP. I can understand your feeling of them making a D&D game and making it RTwP. That said, they had BG, BG2, IWD, IWD2, NWN and NWN2 which were all, IIRC, RTwP, so it's not like they didn't set a trend themselves.
Larian knows TB games, and they've had AFAIK good success with DOS and DOS2, so them to basically come in and make BG3 but more DOS:BG seems a bit eh. I'm not sure why they didn't choose to make their own BG spinoff game - ala Dark Alliance, it's a BG game but not BG - instead of continuing on the main game. I wonder if people felt the same with Fallout 3.
Hopefully the game will be good, it looks like it's shaping up to be so, I may try it at some point. I'd probably agree with @spudbynight, it's harder to make a game that does both RTwP and TB good than just one good and I'd rather Larian do BG3 justice and it be good than them hammer in RTwP and **** it up.

I get what you mean, Larian even did a whole interview on exactly why BG3 IS a BG game. I guess ultimately when Larian won the licence for BG3, it must have been known that Larian would make it TB, so its not even like it was particularly Larians doing that its TB, you could trace it back and say it was Wizards of the Coasts doing that its TB by lieu of them choosing Larian to make BG3 no doubt fully in the knowledge that would mean it being TB.

Goddamn it man ! First you say I can't play as a Necromancer Summoner in D4, now you don't let me play as Ranger ( with animal companion ) in BG3. Bah humbug ! May you be plagued by CohhCarnage's character on your first playthrough :p

*makes noises*
I'm holding out for reviews but the real debate was whether to play this on PS5 or seriesX. With SX being pushed to next year, I'm not sure I can wait another month for PS5!

Bsh.
