Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, as well as the other Forgotten Realms games like the Icewind Dale series were my favourite games of all time.

I purposely avoided the early access as I desperately didn't want to spoil anything, and so far it's been well worth the wait.

I'm only two hours in and yes, there's a long way to go; but the early indications are, it has masterpiece written all over it.

A lot of the reviews I've seen this evening, from quite respected reviewers are using that very word - "masterpiece"

97% Overwhelming Positive now on Steam too

I read something about the devs recommending not to go with one of the voiced/pre-made characters (can't remember the proper term). Is anyone going down this route? It seems counterintuitive.

The devs recommended NOT to play as Dark Urge on your first playthrough, because you will miss out sections of the game due to Dark Urge essentially being inclined to kill everything and everyone, meaning that you will end up killing characters that have sections of the game associated with them (assuming you play Dark Urge correct to its character) , if thats what you mean? So they werent necessarily saying not to play them at all, just not to play that character on a first run through, otherwise the effect of seeing how different its run through will be is lessened because you dont have a "norrmal" run through to compare it to.

Yeah that's "The Dark Urge" origin. I think it's basically the evil playthrough (this game doesn't have alignment like the other games in the series).

some people are guessing it might be linked to a certain deity from previous in the series

Baldur's Gate 3 lead says your first playthrough should be a custom character

Found it, still not sure about it.

"I would always pick a custom and discover my companions," Vinche said in an interview with Dropped Frames. "I think the origins come into play when you replay it."
I can sort of see the logic in what he is saying, if you're doing and making decisions based on a set characters background history then its not really your character, your roleplay and your decisions. So I can understand what he means from a roleplay perspective that a custom character will be more about your own choices then after you might want to see how differently the game plays out in regard of other "main" characters lives

finally got it downloaded earlier and been enjoying it, bought it a few hours before it launched so got the bonus deluxe stuff too what ever that is.

i made a fighter as my character and winning so far :P

mindflayers were in planescape torment werent they?

Not had a chance to read the latest posts as been crazy busy today, so is it amazeballs? After buying d4 im a bit reluctant to buy this yet.

i was getting the urge to play d4 earlier but this game is making me go one more thing and then one more thing, the story telling is brutal and top notch, moving my character about feels a bit clunky compared to say d4 but its turn based combat, so easily forgiven and i have played it for about 5 hours or so and it just keeps improving and sucking me in the more i play it :)

the combat is very similar to divinity original sin (got the second one for that but havent played it yet)

its pushing my graphics card a lot im getting between 40-75 fps at 2560x1440p with max settings, no lag or stutter though.

ryzen 7 5700x
sapphire pulse 5700 8 gig
32 gig ddr4
running it off a nvme

Thanks for the feedback, i played div2 but never finished it, think i got bored with it.

i played 100.1 hours on the first divinity and 108 minutes on the second one lol

baldurs gate 3 has an amazing story and literraly every choice you make will have repurcussions and impacts and it is super dark, makes the witcher 3 seem like a kids game so far :P

My group is done for the evening, silly Thursday release. Enjoying it so far although there's some quality of life features that would help in coop. The cut scenes can often be desynced if someone joins late. I feel it should keep everyone in sync. Some other things like that.

Everything else has been great so far. My dragon paladin of ancients is playing how I expected. We also have a sorc, rogue and a monk in the group.

Tactician, even so early on has beed a good challenge, enemies really like focusing mages and ranged guys.
