Baldur's Gate 3

Hi not really into this kind of game but did play divinity and liked but the camera view was to close for me when panned out is this the same ?

Have to say, I'm finding it pretty janky with the cut scene stuff, the UI is a bit strange in telling you what's happened/what's going on (blink and you'll miss it in the top-left for approval/disapprovals), and the camera seems weird. Why can't you pan up and down?

Yeah these issues annoy me too. It is a great game overall but there is stuff about this I would do differently and stuff that needs improving.

I haven't been this addicted to a game for a LONG time! It's certainly no Baldurs Gate 3, and yes the camera is annoying but I'm still hooked :)

Decided to give this a go, despite my Larian / DOS reservations, and you have 30 day returns with GOG apparently.

Larian's barrels and environmental crap is everywhere as per usual, as well.
Also, doesn't 'feel' very Baldur's Gate, but what would that feel like in 2023, I suppose.

I might refund and come back to it in a year or two as I don't think i'm in the right mood for it.
I actually wish they would restrict the camera even further, frankly in D&D I shouldnt be able to see into a room without actually going into the room. Luckily I can stop myself from scrolling to see whats in rooms ahead of me or down the path in front of me, or round the corner etc, but I do wish I could tick a box to restrict the camera all the same

Not my sort of guy but even Worth a Buy guy likes it (9/10) for those people who do like him, particularly commenting on the sheer depth and freedom in the game. You know its a good game if that miserable old every-game hating twonk likes it :D

Sorry, I meant the ability to look up and down, so you can see the sky, that sort of thing. Sometimes there's things such as ledges, and it makes it awkward to actually angle to see what's on it, such as goblins in houses, unless you use that 'Tactical View' thing.
I do sort of wish the guys who did Pillars of Eternity got the licence.

Ah, yeah looking up and down would be useful, probably something thats easily patched in. I'm actually happy that Larian got the licence rather than the PoE guys, I probably wouldnt have bought it if the PoE guys had done it.

It's a solid game but for sure over-hyped. Unfortunately the tedium of loot & clutter is there as much as in DOS2 which I think 30-40 hrs or so in made me quit and haven't returned. Amusingly I'm now at a section (Alchemy Lab @ Blight/Goblin area) which is similar thematically like a DOS2 section where the tedium overwhelmed me (was some sort of Manor). There's just too much non-sense that breaks up the flow of gameplay (non-inventory related) so it's like... eh, what's the point. There's some other issues or at the very least more 'mid' aspects to it, but that's the biggest problem for me. I definitely appreciate the freedom and complexity they've managed to deliver on (in an actually playable game).

At the very least it runs beautifully though, only crashed once, and on an RX6800 it can do, ultra settings, FSR Q @ 4K at just 100 watts (reported reading in AMD's overlay).

Guess I'll at least try to finish off this earlier zone, see if it gets better. If not, then I guess the new season of Path of Exile will still get all my gaming time when it launches in a week or two.

You might want to sit down for this but I have to tell you this game is actually based in a fictional setting! It's also not legal to murder people but that's ok because this is a game and the same rules don't apply.
That depends on the law - as an example there was a student who was arrested for possesing illegal images of the bart and marge simpson because, iirc, the photos came under child abuse. Fictional yet still breaks the law.

Pretty tame when you consider what happens in anime and manga. Surprised that anyone with an anime/manga dvd collection doesnt get arrested.

There has been at least one arrest. At the end of the day being anime/manga didn't mean it is unsafe, and being a game doesn't mean it's safe.

I've not seen anything of the game bar the bear trailer, so I don't really know what happens. My point was purely that just because something is fiction, it doesn't mean it doesn't break any laws.

"Over hyped" is an interesting thing at this point. Feel like even if it were literally the greatest game ever made it would still be over hyped right now just by the sheer amount of hype. On paper it's a pretty niche game, yet has some how managed to be one of the biggest steam releases ever.

I'm really enjoying it, and I'm glad to see people who might not otherwise give it a go. But I don't blame anyone who bounces off it completely.

I tried to play divinity sin1/2 but got stuck. where to go, possibly because i ignored dialogue as i was in a phase where i just wanted to get to action.

now i want a story hoping i love this & then go back to the others.

was playing at 240fps, but really different see a difference in this game so using DLDSR+DLSS is quite nice! & locked to 60FPS

running at 2440x1440 @ x1.78 = 3913x1920
then running Quality DLSS which is 66% 2582x1267

game looks super sharp & beautifu & get good fps :)

Good beginners guide if anyone is just starting -

I watched this to see if I was missing anything in terms of knowing stuff, and there was a few things.

G to link/unlink all party members
F1/F2 etc to change selected party member

But the biggest one to come out of that is the fact you can go into turn based mode in the world in general. Will see how that works with pick pocketing as I was finding that a chore (and was hoping I could freeze time whilst looking for what to try and steal).

I can't place how I feel about this game. Big big fan of the originals, and I still play them to this day. Also a huge fan of DOS, and have cooped DOS2 multiple times with friends.

Everyone is saying this is GOTY and that it 'sets the benchmark for RPGs to come' - which might be true - but I just can't get over the fact that this is more DOS3 than BG3.

A few people have said this on reddit and been downvoted to hell so I know I'm in the minority.

Kind of like waiting 20 years for HL3 to release only to find out that it's released in the style and script of Borderlands. I love the Borderlands series to death, but that doesn't mean I want a HL3 Borderlands game.

Dunno what I was expecting, obviously we have to move with the times but maybe something more like Pathfinder WOTR.

Its a smash hit, of that there can be no doubt. As mentioned above its even brought people who dont like the genre into the genre. Its smashed the top ten simultaneous players on steam, something this genre hardly ever achieves. Its likely to be a contender for GOTY and honestly could even win it if Starfield turns out to be dump. Its been both a critical and a financial success. To be frank, IF they had made it much more BG like, I dont think most of the above would have happened.

The year I think has been an interesting one in gaming, we have Diablo 4 for instance, a game where many critics of it say that its still too much like Diablo/Blizzard and hasnt gone far enough away from the standard Diablo formula and done things more like other titles in the genre (things like PoE) and then on the flip side of that, we have BG3 where many critics say the exact opposite and say that its got too much of the things like other titles in the genre (DOS) and isnt more like the standard BG formula.

As this is the BG3 thread I am talking about it in the context of the game. There is governance around game content therefore, this game would not have been released if it contained anything illegal. It is that simple. Therefore there is no need to go off on a tangent.

@Marmot Reddit downvotes are a terrible benchmark, the whole site is just an echo chamber for whatever subject is and you're not allowed to deviate from the hive mind way of thinking. Absolute cesspit of a place honestly.

Funnily enough I'd not heard of it until looking through these forums.

That being said I don't really pay attention to these things, other than Starfield which I am looking forward to.

But I might get this game, I remember playing the first one aaaaaaaaaaages ago, although I get it mixed up with Lands of Lore (I think they want a different offering) and don't remember much of either now, as that's going back 25 years or so.

I need a stop gap between now and Starfield as I'm well and truly in a dry spell in terms of games.
