Baldur's Gate 3

Broke the previous concurrent player count last night beating cyberpunk by 30k.
Baldurs gate 3 is now the highest rated game of all time on Open Critic

Incredible when you consider that its a "niche" title. A turn based RPG, beating out titles from genres with wider appeal. If Starfield even vaguely messes up, you'd have to think that BG3 will runaway with the GOTY with the critics.

There's only 2 ways BG3 doesn't get game of the year.

1. Something better comes along
2. Game awards are as corrupt as film/tv awards

Makes me wonder what the criteria is. Like do they just go with whatever the hype game is at the time, what's the metric?

Another minor gripe I have (because not many majors) is that having cutscenes breaks the immersion somewhat because your character pulls facial expressions and reacts to things in a way they may not for the character you are playing. This of course wasn't an issue in the other as they didn't have them. It seems pretty clear that despite some choices on actions, there seems to a not so subtle way of railroading you to be a certain type of character, II was far better in terms of these choices.

Good stuff: Found an interesting book, need to work out how to unlock its full potential. Still finding little tricks and stuff with the combat by using combos, but I tend to only use damage spells and not so much buffs and debuffs. Since locking framerate to 100, my GPU is only using 45% at 4k with DLSS so nice and quiet, not that it's loud anyway.

I would hope that the metric is a combination of pricepoint, graphics technical, graphics artistic, sound fx, music, voice acting, story, customisation, bugs, optimisation, multiplayer options, game length, replayability, player freedom, enjoyment factor, microtransactions, launch state, ongoing support.

Not many, if any, other titles this year outscore BG3 on all of those combined. Maybe Starfield will but its Bethesda, so likely not :D

MAkes me wonder how BOTW ever won it then :D

Also, which awards, there are many versions of GOTY though they tend to align.

Have you tried DSR and DLAA instead. Your GPU will work harder but you'll get a better quality result. I'm curious as this is the first game I've been able to do this with and it looks good at 1440, I get about 80ish fps. Just wondering what the result are at 4k

TBH I Don't know the difference, I may have meant DSR, bear with.

No I have DLSS 'Quality', So should I use DSR DL Scaling (5461x2880 or 6144x3240) and I don't see anything to do with DLAA on NVCP or in game, I thought DLAA was a game by game thing.

I have found that using those high res has messed up UII scale etc in the past.

There is the "official" one, whats it called, The Game Awards? Something like that. Though I always pay more attention to my own GOTY (as per my yearly GOTY thread), which has slightly different "rules" than most GOTYs

DLAA is under the anti aliasing settings in game

Ah ok, the kind of thing I'd argue about in school :D

Here's a really good tip!

Change your Cleric's class character "SHADOWHEART" into a War Mage with added War Domain. You still have health spells, but you get very powerful damage spells, wards and the choice of Heavy Armour usage! Just select the character in camp and change it, then go back to your main character :)

DSR 1.78xDL and DLAA

Ah yeah that looks waaaaaay clearer thanks. For anyone else doing this, you need to look for the new resolution (DSR) under 'Aspect Ratio' in game as it doesn't fall under the 16:10 or 16:9, you're probably using. Breaks the NVIDIA overlay FPS now says N/A but thats ok.

Do you know what fps/gpu loading you're getting now?

Is this easy enough to play with a controller? Guessing so if it is coming out for the consoles.

I play PC games with a pad when I can, but not this game.

It's obviously playable, and I only gave it a very short go, but that was enough to make my mind up.

Some games like this and RTS are better suited to m/kb IMO.

Give it a try, you might get better on with it than me.
