Baldur's Gate 3

For the life of me i cant get into the turn based style, loved baldurs gate 2, i guess its just a preference thing ? maybe it will click for me, trying to get into it, the divinity games, along with x com games and invisible inc, guess i just prefer real time with pause, that way you can set up your attack and spell paterns, anyone feel the same ?

I would have preferred the controls from Baldur's Gate 2 and Pillars of Eternity, but I'm okay with the more turn-based controls from Divinity Original Sin as well.

I'm actually the other way round so I understand what you mean, just from the opposite perspective, I love turn based games but I was never really able to get into the Baldurs Gate games (or any of the other similar titles) because of the real time with pause style. Which is a pity as I loved the lore. A comparison is Civilization games versus Europa Universalis style games, of the two I vastly prefer the turn based Civ to the real time with pause of EU. Which again, is a shame because I like the added depth of the EU titles. Another would be the Xcom games as you mention, I adore the turn based Xcom2 but I wouldnt enjoy it as much if it was real time with pause. It all is , as you say, a personal preference thing, I just either prefer full on turn based or full on real time but I dont particularly enjoy having something be real time and then having enough depth that requires me to keep pausing it, just makes me think well if I have to keep pausing it why not just make it turn based. Plus of course I simply think that D&D rules work better in a turn based system.

I was hoping for a new Divinity game rather than Baldur's Gate, but everything Larian does is excellent so this will be too. Original Sin 2 is imo one of the best games ever made so borrowing from that is fine by me.

I love all(most) of the old isometric RPGs, but tbh I am totally over RTWP. I don't miss it at all

I quite liked the approach Obsidian did with POE2: Deadfire, where you get to pick either real-time or turn-based when you start a new game and they give you a short clip of what each looks like whilst you have them selected.

How disappointing, I really didn’t get on with DOS at all. Why they haven’t got Obsidian to do this is basically down to money and appealing to a larger audience which is just naff.

Don't know about that... It could be down to Larian making one of the best reviewed, most complex RPGs ever whilst Obsidian's recent offerings have been hit and miss games at best with incredibly bland stories that not many people played.

By the way, Obsidian are my favourite developers of all time, though Larian are getting close.

POE2 any good i see i can get the game plus all dlc for £18. I enjoyed the first one but lost my saves at the start of act 3.

I'll pick it up, liked the first one but keep spending a lot of time wishing it was a reskinned BG2!
Do it it's really good. Nothing new, but really good. The story is lacklustre, but the factions and the overall gameplay are great foundations.

I just realised I never played any of the dlc. I just never caught a, decent deal on them. I might get them and play it again.

I’m not going to argue your points, I just want a true Baldur’s Gate game and this doesn’t strike me as being that sadly from the combat and style seen so far.
At least from an engine and gameplay perspective PoE was, and is, much closer to that the originals.

Actually only point I will say is that I found the stories in both Larian and Obsidians recent offerings very poor.

Just wondering who is going to be picking this up in 2 days for Early Access and who is going to wait? I saw in a youtube video that 'v1.0' could be 12-18 months away still.

I am in two minds. I generally shy away from early access but I hear Larian are very good at it and even early access can deliver a good experience.

I'm going to wait for content to be complete before I buy which will be quite difficult as I am super pumped about this. I just don't enjoy RPGs as iterative experiences and the benefit of getting (literal) Early Access is tempered by the fact it will be a draft segment of a much better final experience. I hope they get to full release within 12 months though.

I'm planning to pick it up as soon as its available. I truly loved Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 so this game is a no-brainer for me, I heard that the EA encompasses around 20-25 hours of play. If thats true then just the EA content will be longer than many games entire length.

Been playing some 5e recently and really enjoying it, games like this really help with understanding how things work even if they have to take some short cuts so I'll be picking it up within the first week of EA.

Its limited on classes at the moment (7 of 12 I think) and only 25 hours of play (more than most games) but that should be plenty to get me into it.
