had my main character dead in lava earlier after some one pushed him down in a fight lol, took a while to work out how to get him back out, i was trying all sorts and a simple scroll of revivify from karlach who i got to jump next to him in the lava worked
the only thing im finding annoying is the need to do long camps to refresh spells. I know its true to the rules of D&D etc but still, they should bend the rules a little and just refresh things on a short rest. Or at least advance time without you having to go back to camp, sleep and then return.
This was OK for me at 60 btw but QD-OLED screen, so it's instant response.
I do notice difference between say 60 and 100 FPS in fast paced shooters, where 100+ is definitely superior, but for games like this I can't really tell anything.

Mind you, 4/5 for Eurogamer is still an exceptionally good score, they almost never give a 5/5 so thats amongst the highest score they've given to a game, let alone a niche game

I get what you mean but its still a niche game, the mechanics and gameplay style are niche, just a niche title thats immensely popular. Bit like Schindlers List is a niche film thats immensely popular.
Though its a great credit to Larian that they've taken a niche title and made it such an enormous widespread success. If someone had said at the start of the year that a turn based, dialogue and text heavy, strongly Dungeons and Dragons influenced RPG would be the leading contender to win GOTY 2/3rds of the way into the year, I doubt too many people would have bet their house on it
You have spell slots, which are a certain number of spells you can cast a day, as you level up the number of slots goes up and you gain higher level spell slots. Cantrip spells dont take a slot, and can be used as often as you want. All your spell slots are replenished after a long rest.
It can be a bit confusing at first but once you've had a few fights it starts making sense.
I've been playing on deck. Native its ok though it eats the battery. It is a very good candidate for streaming though. Any additional latency is hardly noticeable and you get much better visuals and battery life. Though I have noticed some hitching, which can be annoying at times. And on one occasion the video froze for a couple minutes during a fight so had to run upstairs so I could see what was happening. But I think that's mostly just down to my own steaming settings and network and not specifically the game or steam
So I've tried not to save scum - letting the dice fall where they may (literally) even if it's something I've not liked. After all, if you just re-load everytime you don't get the right result you might as well just mod it to roll 20.
So some stuff hasn't gone how I'd have wanted to, but hey, I'll save that for another replay. However...there's something at the start of Act2 that just feels like it's designed to fail with big repercussions. SPOILERS!
So, out of the blue you need to save Isobel. Note, this comes at an unexpected time - you're in a potential safe-space with NPC's all over and you've more than likely just wondered in after doing a bit of fighting in the area so lacking abilities/health, and you're seemingly ushered up to speak to her first before you move on....then BAM! Fight going on...nice little suprise. Except...it feels like you're designed to lose this:
1. Isobel is weak - she's meant to be a cleric (and given the impression quite a strong one) but does everything in her power to die; she randomly ran out onto the balcony, past opportune enemies. Made no attempt to buff/heal herself and has low AC/HP so usually dies in 2-3 rounds.
2. Regardless of what's happening, if she drops, the scene ends with Marcus flying off with her even if though (in my game) he was in no fit state to walk (or fly) anywhere. Seriously? Why not give me a chance to get her back up first?
3. The fallout of this is huge; the whole village turns, ending various quests inc. Karlach's quest line!
4. It's a difficult fight in itself, which then leads to an even more difficult fight.
It just feels jarring - it doesn't feel like it should be a right path, it feels like negative route that should be the result of making some bad/evil choices which have come to roost. However, instead it feels like you're forced down a route with a lot of negative repercussions.
Not sure how everyone else decided to play it out, but I think this will be a reload for me....
In controller mode the whole ui is changed to support it. So you have like rings of all the actions that you call up with the bumpers and they're big and easy to see.
You also, in non turn based mode, have direct control over your character rather than click to move.

Yeah, this was one scene that I think was poorly implemented. First time through I had no issue but my next time (due to a restart) I lost twice for the same reason as you. Ended up dropping the difficulty level.
I think my first time though was easy because my monk kept Marcus staggered or prone IIRC

Personally I didn't find it difficult and I just killed the guy that came in within 2 or 3 turns, the mobs werent too difficult to clear either. Have you done the creche? I think that gives you some decent xp so you might be able to approach this at a higher level, (I did creche first),
I think the difficulty of some encounters needs to be refined too, its a bit all over the place.
