Baldur's Gate 3

I give everyone a ranged weapon as well, whatever they are proficient in, sometimes just spamming arrows from on-high can be effective, and it gives support characters like Shadowheart the ability to do some damage when she doesn't need to cast heals and enemies might be immune to her basic firebolt.

Item proficiency is important, make sure you check whatever items you give to characters doesn't say they are not proficient in using it.

Makes some sense that for example you can't give your sorcerors heavy armour, or give Gale that big 2 handed Axe. You can influence item proficiency with feats later on, but off the bat characters tend to have gear that works better for them.

I've reinstalled this after rage quitting on the first day. I really want to get on with this game but I'm just not getting it. The videos look great but I'm not understanding all the hype and GOTY stuff. Movement is clunky and combat is awful.

I'm currently stuck about an hour in playing as cleric on easiest settings. I'm at the refectory having jumped down the hole, so it's me and Gale against 5 bandits, but no matter what I do they just one shot Gale and 2 shot me and it's game over. I've tried shooting the oil barrels to no effect. I honestly want to throw the computer out of the window.

You have the hotbar with about 30 skill icons and I haven't a clue what to do, what to press and what attacks to use. Are there any mods where you can skip combat completely and just play through the story?

Can anyone give me some advice so I can move on as I want to get into this game and hope it will grow on me, so any help would be appreciated.
just to note, you're not stuck down the hole. you can go to any waypoint from the map screen, then can regroup and come at it a different way.

Lol, 2 posts in a row, one about gamers trying to look up a characters skirt and one about how quickly you can have sex. Good to see that the gaming community isnt adhering to the stereotype of what we're all supposedly like :D

Enjoying just finding stuff in chests and places at the moment, love the world, but I don't know what tf I am doing really.

Just exploring the world is half the fun, some interesting places to jump over to if you look around carefully as well!

All of the unexplored bits of the map usually contain something of interest.

I find it bizarre, I don't think i've ever been attracted to or turned on by a video game or cartoon character in my life.

Although the skirt comment was secondary to my initial comment about pc gamer stereotypes ;)

Ended up in the Underdark by just going off the beaten path, quite the difficulty spike but I am mostly clear of it now. Not actually completed one quest yet like the druid one or found any of the 'healers'.

Man, I remember as a kid when I was attracted to lara crofts pointy assets.
Time and the decades have not been kind to Lara

Had a few hours on it now and it's exactly what I was hoping it would. A better looking far more polished version of Solasta. Got 3 people with me currently exploring the crypt near the beach.

'Examine' on all enemies will give you a ton of info. What they're weak to, resistant. If they have str18+ then there's probably not a good chance of pushing them off a ledge; that and you lose the loot. :D

Combat also has another level of depth when you bring in other elements. Getting enemies wet (spells, throwing buckets etc.), standing on boxes for height or getting to ledges.

I think I am almost in love with this game (so far). I have played nothing else since release and I am engrossed in the world and the story. The music is actually very good and the graphics look great in HDR and significantly better than SDR with the correct settings (1.12 contrast seems to have sorted it out on my LG C1, the default 1.00 makes everything look washed out).

I hope it stays this good (I am still in Act 1).

Is there way to display the attack rolls on screen during combat?
There is a combat log icon in the bottom right corner, click on it and a text box comes up. It should show you the stats and I think you can mouse over elements in the log to see more detail.

Yeah i found that but in Solasta you see the dice roll for every combat action. I quite like seeing it.

I think I had a full party by that time and that fight was still hard, no wonder you are having problems. You should be able to rescue Lae'zel near that area so I recommend doing that first and I had Shadowheart, but she was already on the beach a few steps away from me (probably due to my choices on the Nautiloid).

Remember that you can hide (sneak) and try to attack enemies from stealth/position your allies better. Also, there are other ways to get into that chapel, going down the hole is probably the hardest.
