Baldur's Gate 3

Finding this game a bit annoying as there's a lot to learn, which is good, but it's extremely unintuitive. For instance, I healed my party a dozen times with Shadowheart out of combat and then couldn't use the spells anymore. Why? My melee guy was blinded for 10 turns, no 'cleanse' spell I can see, nothing I can see when levelling up. If there's some junk in my inventory I can use, I don't know what I'm looking for. Sharpshooter on high ground gets 10% attack chance but apparently, they're at a 'disadvantage' What is the disadvantage?

For blindness, each turn your guy will do a constitution check, if successful blindess will go away. You can buff that check by using "resistance" which helps with the saving throws, it's a cantrip I think shadoheart usually has.

In terms of spells, you only have so many spell slots at each level you can cast (aside cantrips) until you need to rest to get the spells sloys back. Possible when you was healing initially had good amount of spell slots left then rested / refreshed and went again.

For the disadvantage thing, the dice roll twice and take lowest score. Could be a number of things, could be ongoing status effects on your guys like blindness, or, buffs the enemy may have or resistance. Also range, shortbows while they may hit the enemy are ineffective beyond a certain range
You can right click on enemies and click examine to see any stats or perks they may have which may give more info.

In your hotbar do you see those blue/red squares under each spell level? The number of blue squares is the number of times you can cast a spell of that level, when they turn red that means you have used one up.

Why? My melee guy was blinded for 10 turns, no 'cleanse' spell I can see, nothing I can see when levelling up.

Attack the caster of the blind spell in order to break their concentration. Alternatively cast a spell that boosts saving throws (of the dice so you roll a higher number) like Bless or Resistance and you will have a much better chance to get rid of the debuff condition.

The disadvantage means you are less likely to hit. If you are trying to hit a prone character with a ranged weapon then you are at a disadvantage. Right click on the enemies and characters and it should tell you what's going on somewhere.

Use short rests to instantly heal your party 50% out of combat, I tend to do this before burning spell slots for out of combat heals as I need to long rest occasionally anyway.

This is a great video on improving your combat performance and how things work in general. I have highlighted the section on advantage/disadvantage.

Anyone else having NPC's acting hostile but not attacking ? Just done the
Rescue the Tieflings quest
and now they are acting weird. Has a couple of them get themselves killed
by running out into the shadow curse

See, this is why I'm waiting for the 1000+ bugfix/tweaks patch, who knows what's broken at the moment.

Not really had any other bugs or crashes so far apart from this quest. I had to go back to camp for the quest to update itself, but otherwise the game has been fine.

Just finished this and apart from some rage inducing battles I enjoyed it a lot. No game is perfect and I felt a lot of the spells need rebalanced but still a 9 out of 10.

Can see me playing the again to explore some of the other party member stories.

Dark urge is a lot of fun so far, I'm lagging my dark urge behind my main play through but interesting seeing some of the choices you get.

Playing dark urge tiefling bard.

Also playing on the hardest difficulty, finding it a little easy, wish they had an even harder one!

I don't think I will ever play dark urge. I get it's only a game but I don't do evil things in games and it's why for example I hate all Rockstar games (or any game) that force you to be the "bad guy". There were missions that I set stun only on against the Baldurs gate guards because I felt they were "only doing their job". Yet I had no issues killing both criminal gangs because "justice".

GTA V had you in a firefight killing cops, nope not interested. RDR2 had you working with a gang where you were literally forced to do bad things. I could spend an evening doing good deeds and helping catch bad guys as a bounty hunter and strike up a raport with the local sheriff. Only to "progress" my questline by talking to Dutch and next thing I am in a firefight killing the sherrif and his deputies. Or I was forced to free one of the most vile NPC in the game and help him escape a town by leaving scores of dead locals in our wake.

Sorry, long post to say I would not find that compelling, each to their own and I know you would not be like that i real life :D

I've just started this, I think it is in my best interests to watch some of the combat guides, so I don't get 30 hours in and realise i've been playing it all wrong.

I always play my morales in games. Just can't be the bad guy.

How does this compare to the DoS games? I loved the original BG games and sunk many hours into them back in the day, but when I tried DoS2, I just couldn't get into it or the combat at all and ended up stopping playing.

Oh no worries I get it, it's good that the game let's you play how you want to I think!

I like playing more evil roles in games sometimes because I can, not because I would want to in real life of course. It's more interesting to me than the good guys always winning etc.

I will also do a good playthrough though, I like to see how most of the choices change the story.

I've just started this, I think it is in my best interests to watch some of the combat guides, so I don't get 30 hours in and realise i've been playing it all wrong.

I played the early access and my first combats were woeful. I had no idea on staying in darkness, spell buff or potions etc. By the time the full game came out I was able to complete act 1 without difficulty.

So it is daunting at first but you do get proficient. If I gave one tip it is that positioning is key. Don’t get all clumped up, or in a neat line that an AOE or beam spell will take out your team in one hit.

Moving toward the end of Act 2 now with my evil party. Its remarkable just how different the game plays out with an evil party in comparison to a good party. There are big swathes of the game which are different, some entire areas which the good or evil party dont get. Whilst the early sections of the game played out relatively similar with both our parties, by the time we were deep into Act 2, things have been quite different.
