Bands you wish were better known

Bayside? Seriously? Everyone I know has heard of them. They're even on a major label!

They're on an offshoot of a major label true, but I wouldn't say they are well known. Look at the other bands signed to Wind-Up, it's not really an all star cast is it? Maybe I need to start hanging around with your friends as nobody I know has the slightest clue who they are :p.

It's interesting seeing how differently people have interpreted the "wishing bands were better known" part.

A band I rather like are The Trade, mates of a mate and play decent music. This video might not be the best example but the songs that I've heard are all good.

For years i'd have said Journey.

They never did anything chart wise through their glory days despite being absolutely huge in america.

Wasn't till a few years ago when don't stop beliving came a cult, then they took off.

Heard their greatest hits being played in morrisons last year... never i a lifetime id ever though that'd happen:)

Are you kidding me?

Ohh journey are a passion mate, but i can't recall a top 40 hit, thats the medium for popular success, and why i jumped on the topic.

The people that know/knew of them jumped on the albums, i was introduced on escape... it stands today as one of the finest i own.

Same people went to see them live, but lets be honest, doesn't take much to fill up the likes of rock city.... the typical venue they played at when they came over in the 80's, same pretty much goes for when they first came back a few years ago... the fans knew, and flocked the 2 dates out, after going to see them at the monsters.

Either way, it's all good now, people have jumped all over them with the anthem and the whole 80's fad... happy their finaly getting it to the masses.

Well I remember them playing in 1979 and selling out Manchester Apollo, Glasgow Apollo, London Hammersmith, Birmingham Odeon and a few more.
I know because I was at two of them and those places were the top venues at the time.
You can't wish a band who were massive in the late 70s early 80s were still massive now - they've had their time and to be honest, still surviving.
I think they go out on tours with the other famous 3 - Kansas (one of my faves), Boston & Styx because people aren't interested now.
They are dinosaurs who belong to the 70's/early 80's but I love all 4 of them.

BT: only his album "This Binary Universe" interests me really, but it is incredible special.

Songs to check out: 1.618 (embedded below - listen to it the whole way through!), the internal locus, dynamic symmetry.

Andy mckee. He's pretty big with guitarists but his music is accessible for non-guitarists too so I think more should find out about him.

His biggest song, popularised by the internet..

He is good!!!

Some good shouts already such as WHY?, Beirut and Natural Milk Hotel... but as for shouts like Goo Goo Dolls, they are prob as big as there ever gona get for a 25 year old band with 9 or 10 albums... The only band that i can think of at the moment is Fake Problems, they have been on tour with The Gaslight Anthem recently and some songs have a modest mouse sound to them.

Hilltop Hoods, an Australian hiphop group, well (well) known over there but hardly at all over here.

They rerecorded their album "The Hard Road" with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra

It's an interesting point I've never really understood how bands like the Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20 can be so massive in the states yet make so little impact here. For years they have churned out good quality and in some casses Matchbox 20 - Yourself or Someone Like You brilliant guitar pop.

Some really good picks in this thread so far, it is amazing how much talent is out there just outseide the mainstream.

Ugly Kid Joe, they had a couple of hits but didn't last long.

They were amazing for about five minutes, Cats in the Craddle and Everything about you were everywhere for a while and then they just seemed to disapear. I think they toured the UK supporting Def Leppard, still love Mr Recordman love the lyrics and the toned down accoustic styling really brings out the magic.

John Frusciante is a good shout.

I'm always going to say Immortal Technique, one of if not my favourite artist, his second album Revolutionary Volume II is a piece of art, amazing lyrically.

I like that he's not well known, but wish more people could appreciate his immense talent.

He is, Dance with a/the devil is very well known.
