BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

I'm going to place an order for one either tonight or in the morning - for the money once you have a VA they look excellent and as the replacements are FOC if they do it get wrong I'm ok to wait a bit I have a 19" lcd I can use if thats the case :)

I would think the time spent RMAing so many items and the courier costs, it's more in their interest to sort out the issue than ours. Hopefully they'll begin checking monitors that go out as replacements.

As you say though, it'll be worth the wait once you do get a VA panel, if the quality of the TN panel is anything to go by :)

So you're saying even though the retailer has sold you a VA panel, the warranty does not guarantee you the same ?? You sure about that, or just guessing ?

Id have thought OcUK would have made that clear on their website if that was the case.
The warranty is nothing to do with the retailer. The retailer washes their hands of you after 30 days. Digimate haven't made any promises to you about particular specifications, and Digimate didn't sell you the screen. Digimate list 170/170 viewing angles on their site, thus covering their back in all circumstances.

I notice all the TN panels are being sold as "B" grade items on the website now?

What about whether the goods are fit for purpose or not?
We're not talking about legal rights here, we're just talking what Digimate would likely send you as a replacement if the screen broke. Your legal rights are against the retailer (OcUK). Needless to say if it should break you always have the option of purpsuing the retailer under sale of goods act. Like I said OcUK might have made you promises about specifications (FWIW the 180/180 viewing angle spec is a joke since it's impossible to see a flat screen from 180 degrees, even the people who make the panels only spec them at 178/178), but Digimate haven't and you didn't buy it from Digimate.

Even if its nothing to do with the retailer has sold the monitor as va with a warranty, so if recevie a tn as replacement on warranty then warranty has been missold by the retailer.

The box says 180 / 180 in bold letters on the front.

Absolutely. I am just speculating here btw, it's quite possible that there's some arrangement between OcUK and Digimate where if any OcUK customers phone up for replacements, Digimate send them a VA panel out. It's not impossible. And you would always have the option of insisting on a VA replacement and getting OcUK involved on your behalf.

I'm just stating my opinion that I think to Digimate they are just selling a screen called the 2442W and it has whatever panel in it they can source for the least money at that particular time. So I think they wouldn't see the 2442W as specifically an MVA screen, which is why they're now making them with TNs. I think OcUK probably just got a load of screens in, saw they were MVA and decided to use that fact to push them, knowing how lots of people don't like TNs.

Anyway this is all irrelevant until people start getting screens die out of 30 days (which should be pretty rare). We'll just have to see.

Can you post some pictures, for us to take a look?

not really as i dont have a cam at hand. With a webcam and its uber rubbish settings you can see it (obviously it looks way worse)

as said, it isnt that bad, but thats a black desktop solid colour, everycorner basically is going to a near full white corner. Was perfect at uni/the guys house aswell.

All i can do is try different cables really.

Actually, I was wrong about Digimates website, they list two screens, 2442W with 170/170 viewing angles and 2442WD with 180/180 viewing angles. My mistake.

They're still happily making screens that don't meet that spec though.

I ordered two of these monitors and received them on friday, and both of them are LG-LM240WU3 (and hence TN) panels, unfortunately.

I'll be RMA'ing them, and hoping for VA panels as replacements, else this could be a long and tedious chain of RMAs :P

(They're not at all bad though, but they're definitely not the VA and 178 or 180 degree viewing angles as advertised, which is what led to picking these screens over others)

edit: The manual which comes with the monitor states the viewing angle as 180/180.

Im stuck between this monitor the Viewsonic VLED221wm and the NEC MultiSync® LCD20WGX2. Im really only going to use it for surfing, editing photos (nothing too serious), CAD and watching video clips on it. Was leaning towards the Overclockers/LCD20WGX2 one until I saw this new Viewsonic. I know its based on a TN screen but seems to get a good review for the colours it produces. Im probably more concerned with colour reproduction and grayscale range than response times.

Well, FSake, you are bound to have some colour problems on a TN screen, especially as you look up towards the top of the screen. This can be minimised by placing the monitor so that you are looking slightly down on it.

The OCUK Value screen is apparently now had the problems solved and people seem to be getting s-PVA panels which are far better than a TN film one. I am, admittedly, waiting to have 2 TN film ones picked up but I am assureed thatPVA screens as all that is now going out. People with the right screen are very pleased too.

I'd go with the OCUK one, I think, (well actually I did!) as it will certainly look better than the Viewsonic one.

just reeived my second replacment(third monitor)

its a s-PVA SA-LTM240M2-L01

finally got the screen.from looking at the screen cant tell much different but as soon as you omve your head to the sides you see a huge difference in colours.

i think they sorted out their problem, as i beleive they open the boxes, mine had a tick on the top of the box. they probably put a tick on every VA panel.

hope everyone gets a Va panel as to me it worth the wait.

thanks overclockers.
