BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Ive had this screen for just over a year now and after about half an hour of usage the screen goes black with some small green vertcal lines. When i turn it off and on again it works for a few minutes then goes black again.

I did a quick search and saw some people have had similar problems, did they manage to fix it or will I have to send it back to OCUK/DGM?

Well I have no idea if you will be able to fix it yourself... but after my experience and if I was in your shoes I'd send it to OcUK (your contract is with OcUK not DGM). You've had it for a year so you would get a higher refund than I was offered (it's relative to time used and your 3 year warranty). Put that towards a better monitor with a different retailer & manufacturer. I like the look of this one

If you send it to DGM you'll be waiting forever and eventually get offered a lower spec model.

I think thats only true of the first 12 months, after that you are left in the hands of the manufacturer. That is at least what they tell you, I can't see OcUK taking it, they will just say go to DGM.

I've done loads of research on this. Insist on sending it to OcUK. I have spoken to Trading Standards... I have researched the Sale of Goods Act etc on the internet... you have less rights in law if you send it to the manufacturer at any point.

Trust me, you may be completely right, but OcUK will not accept the item back. I tried myself with my DGM monitor over a year old and they flat out said no. You'll have a hard time to convince them otherwise.

To be honest they need reporting. Their "on-site" warranty is just a con.
(I do expecty this post will get removed if spotted!)

From Money saving expert:

DO: Return it to the store, not the manufacturer

If the item breaks the SAD FART rules, your agreement's with the shop you bought it from, NOT the manufacturer. So the retailer MUST deal with it - don't let it palm you off.

I can't see where it specifies a time frame.

First 12 months IMO should be with the shop you bought it from. After that its up to manufacturer to repair/replace IMO.

The shop you bought the item from can't be expected to be responsible for the item forever.

What on-site warranty? DGMs were always sold as having repair warranties.

Its says 3 year onsite warranty - that would be expected to mean that if it breaks within 3 years, a replacement will be sent to you (on-site) One would assume the 3 years is with the manufacturer not the shop it was bought from.

From the reverse angle, I bought a 42" Panasonic from that online electrical company that went foot in a big way a couple of years ago and I thought I had a 5 year warranty. It turns out that Panasonic won't honour that warranty and they say its with the retailer - so in effect I have no warranty on my TV. Personally warranty and returns is always an issue and the more shadey or greedy the manufacturer or retailer is the less hope you will have of getting satisfaction.

Well I had mine for 22 months and that is what Trading Standards told me when I rang them.

See first page of this thread

"3yr On-Site Warranty"

I'm pretty sure that was a typo, it was always 3 year repair warranty on the website itself.

I'm sure somewhere in the EU or UK regulations it does state that the retailer should be liable or at least responsible for the first 12 months. It changed a few years ago if I remember rightly, maybe someone knows the particular law/regulation.

I asked Chris Montgomery of OcUK what the difference was between an on site warranty and a normal warranty. I'm still waiting for an answer.

Most monitors come with a standard on site exchange warranty, which means they will come to you and swap the monitor at the door. DGM in an effort to save money use a repair warranty, but this has its drawbacks from the customers point of view.

I had a similar problem although mine monitor is a Yuraku, not a DGM. Same monitor, just re-branded as I understand it.

I sent mine back to Yuraku and had it fixed it with no problems. I don't know waht DGM are like, but it was far less hassle than dealing with the shop who are just going to be a middle man at the end of the day...

As above that happened to my First Yuraku 24" PVA.

The exact same thing, Black screen with lines.

I sent it to Germany for a repair 2 weeks ago and they inform me that its currently under repair.

I did specify that i want a PVA pannel as a replacement but as they are german i very much doupt they will listen.

If i get a TN in return i will be upset :(

Was 2 years old that monitor was, used around 8 hours a day as it would never turn off unless i switched it off lols
