BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

You can enable 1:1 over DVI in the nVidia control panel and 1680x1050 looks great anyway :)

no because the monitor itself can not display 1:1 with anything other than the native resolution, as we said.

I'm so lost :(

I need to buy a LCD as my old CRT Trinitron is on it's way out and i'm unsure
if to get this or the Samsung pebble ? I watch movies more than games and i hate it when the picture looks stretched or squashed .

Thats correct, the only way it can be done is by your drivers tricking the card to displaying a correctly bordered image by adding borders to the image itself, however this doesnt always work.

IT IS working for me with ATI drivers and Warcraft3 though which is a relief to me, as 1600x1200 stretched would have looked a little...poor.

So there's no native, screen hardware 1:1, but sometimes your gfx drivers can force a fake version which may or may not work, depending on the application.

My mistake, it only works with 4:3 resolutions and just stops it from stretching rather than actually being 1:1 (1600x1200 would be though).

Like so (1024x768) -

Sorry for the crap pic.

the monitor itself can not do 1:1 with non-native resolutions. however, the nvidia drivers can send a non-native resolution inside a native (for instance, 1366x768 inside 1920x1200) and achieve the same thing (support varies, im pretty sure it works perfectly in xp)

anyway, even without 1:1 mapping, media software will only stretch it as far as it can horizontally whilst keeping the aspect ratio. so it'll stretch it viertically a little, but not completely.

this one. every single time. VA > tn-film. 24" > 22". 1920x1200 > 1680x1050.

this monitor > 22" pebble.

I remember Ocuk recommending the Belinea 22inch Monitor when people were sceptical of it's quality. That was a very good buy! So tempted to upgrade to this 24 inch monitor, maybe when I build another pc for encoding after xmas.

If you can afford the Samsung get the Samsung it is better than this model IMHO only downside is the Sammy is 22" but picture etc is better. It is a TN panel though so if so the viewing angles are not as good. Although you wont really notice unless you are looking at your monitor from directly below the monitor for some bizare reason.

Its not THAT hard to figure things out. The OcUK is a GOOD monitor and was very very nicely priced over the weekend. Now the price has gone back to normal it is not as amazaing as the price was on the weekend but it is still decently priced.

Make your choice ;) you got my opinion.

your going to have to explain that one. how is the samsung a better screen?

Damonic - Do you actually have this monitor?

Just played CCS, UT3, TF2 and Crysis and all games look great @ 1680x1050 so if that's anyones concern then don't worry you will be very happy with that res. on this screen :)

Look you 3 bought this monitor that is fine, I am not saying it is a bad monitor what I have gone on is GIBBOS comments way back in THIS VERY THREAD.

I own the Samsung Monitor, you own the 24" you want to start asking why is it better well Gibbo has said this himself in terms of picture quality. BUT he personally said he would choose the 24" monitor. Personally I would choose the 22" monitor because apart from the 2" loss the Samsung is better.

Dont even bother to trash talk my post I wont reply again. The above post was directed to Ice Tea.

EDIT: If you want direct comparisons try and get Baddass to reply regarding these 2 monitors, he is by far better at giving good opinions on this sort of discussion.

Hmmm damonic im not sure the samsung would be better, techically speaking based on the laws of physics, a VA/PVA panel will always produce better picture quality over a TN in regards to colour gradients, viewing angles etc (TN panels are 6bit , pva 8bit are they not ?)
