BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Dont even bother to trash talk my post I wont reply again. The above post was directed to Ice Tea.

Gibbo said: 'Samsung maybe has ever so slightly better colours due too its dynamic contrast settings and magic bright stuff' and that it looks better at 1680x1050 as that's its native resolution.

The 24" has better viewing angles, similar if not equal colour reproduction, obviously a higher resolution and larger viewing area.

All we asked was why you thought that, so please don't get all arsey because you don't actually have a reason yourself :p

Look you 3 bought this monitor that is fine, I am not saying it is a bad monitor what I have gone on is GIBBOS comments way back in THIS VERY THREAD.

I own the Samsung Monitor, you own the 24" you want to start asking why is it better well Gibbo has said this himself in terms of picture quality. BUT he personally said he would choose the 24" monitor. Personally I would choose the 22" monitor because apart from the 2" loss the Samsung is better.

So you don't actually own this monitor but yet you can give opinion based on someone elses opinion :confused:

I upgraded from a 20" Viewsonic VX2025 MW and i also own a 40" M87 samsung TV and my opinion is this monitor is excellent i can't compare it directly to a 22" Pebble as i don't own one. It's also not about it being 2" physicly bigger but it's about having a Desktop space of 1920x1200 that makes it a better buy than a 22" Sammy. Btw it scales to 1680x1050 extremely well so no probs for those worrying about gamming :)

EDIT: If you want direct comparisons try and get Baddass to reply regarding these 2 monitors, he is by far better at giving good opinions on this sort of discussion.

what?? i asked you to explain how the samsung was better - you cant. ill explain why the dsg is better:

* 2 inches bigger
* 30% more screen area (1920x1200 vs 1680x1050)
* smaller dot pitch (8900p/sq.in vs 8107p/sq.in) meaning a sharper, cleaner picture
* va panel meaning
*---better color reproduction
*---better viewing angles
*---better contrast ratio
*---better black levels

the samsung, on the other hand, has a better stand:) what else does it have?

I am so glad i chose this instead of the 22" Pebble i was going to buy until Gibbo informed us of this monitor. :)

Does anyone have some good settings i can try?

Thanks

hmm I am getting a strange problem, If I turn the monitor off/on it says no signal although if I take cable out and put back in its fine (and yes I have tryed making sure both ends are in firmly), I'm using DVI with x800gt, I will try on a different gfx, although any other ideas would be appreciated. I'm trying to find out if the dvi output on gfx is borked or monitor is not picking up the output correctly (if that makes sense).

Price update please. Waiting to order :D

PS: Thanks for that update post Gibbo. I was only asking for the lowered weekend special to come back, becasue as you can imagine, it would be great help. But if its a no can do, then its no problemo. I'd still be buying at £264.

Thanks mate.

Samsung.

Faster response time. 2ms
Higher Contrast Ratio: 3000:1
16.7M Colours
1:1 mapping
2" smaller.
TN panel

OcUK
16.7 Million Colours yet 2" bigger than the Samsung.
Lower Contrast ratio.
Crap built in stereo speakers.
higher response time.
Does not have 1:1 mapping
some "unknown" VA panel.

This just taken from OcUK site in a few minutes. Now you want more detailed info ask Baddass if he would like to contribute (As I said he is well known around these forums for information on this sort of thing). Samsung has a lot of there own great technology included in there monitors that the OcUK does NOT. I dont see the point researching this myself just to prove a point when you can do it yourself.

If you really think the OcUK is a far superior monitor than the Samsung then all the power to you.

I belive the Samsung monitor was also the most saught after monitor on OcUK and most of Europe. It is great for a reason. It looks better than this OcUK monitor too.

Forgot to ask is the screen on the OcUK 24" high gloss ? as i'm near a window with light coloured walls and abit concerned about reflections.

im sorry but you dont have a point. i own a 40" sony 1080p panel - i know what decent colors are. a tn-film panel wont touch it. my dell e228 22" didnt touch it. my friends dell 2405 doesnt touch it and guess what...neither does this monitor. ill tell you what though, this 24" DGM is the closet of the lot.

you'll notice i never mentioned response times because they are irrelevant. its fast enough not to cause any problems, pretty much the same as it was on my 22". its faster than then 2405. but again, i dont see it as in issue either way.

another point, what good is 1:1 mapping on a 1680x1050 panel? it wont display 1080p. 72-p it would, fair eough, but 720p on a 22" panel? hardly worth the bother for 1:1 mapping is it?

no, i listed relivant points. and for the record, being a tn film, the samsung cant display those 16.7million colours, it has to do it with dithering.

and that contrast raio is BS. the contrast ratio on my sony is rated at something like 6000:1 dynamic and guess what....it tested otu at just over 1000:1 actual which is still better than any of these monitors.

I belive the Samsung monitor was also the most saught after monitor on OcUK and most of Europe. It is great for a reason. It looks better than this OcUK monitor too.

you can defend your monitor, thats OK. but the dgm is the better panel. period.

HI there

The 223BW is an absolutely first class screen. Its what I was using before this 24" model. In comparison the Samsung maybe has ever so slightly better colours due too its dynamic contrast settings and magic bright stuff. Its viewing angles are not great but thats the same for most TN panels but if your looking head on at it then its not a problem.

The 223BW will display 1680x1050 better than the 24" on offer here as thats its native resolution.

However if it was my money and I was deciding between the Samsung 223BW and OcUK 24" then I'd buy the OcUK 24" because 1920x1200 is a far better resolution to work with in windows and the viewing angles on the 24" are much superior.

*Not directed to Gibbo* Like I said only argument you can make is that it is 2" bigger. You keep going on about the fact is can play 1080p without the picture being compressed due to the resolution, the resolution is 30% bigger than the samsung resolution, it is 2" bigger... thats all the same thing which I have not said is a bad thing, it is great. All I have done is comment on how everything else the OcUK is not better than the Samsung. Oh and the fact the OcUK is a random VA panel (for now at least as this isn't even confirmed) so the viewing angles are better than a TN. THAT IS IT NOTHING MORE.

Care to drag this out more?

In conclusion the OcUK is a VA panel for now. 2" bigger. WOW it is clearly better than the 22" Samsung. That is your ONLY valid argument. Which I have never denied regarding the 2" extra size over the Samsung.

Congratulations on owning a 40" Sony TV, plasma I assume which is a totally different subject.
