BARGAIN - OcUK 24" with DVI (*VA Panel) for £179.99+VAT (This Week Only Deal!!)

Yeah, we all look at buying a product we research and like, then spend hours looking for and often finding fault with it and go through the hassle of returning it [like driving 25 miles to the OCUK shop] just for some twisted fun. FFS.

I said some of you, not all of you?
Read carefully.

I've got a bit of a dilemma, my backlight problem appears to have gotten slightly better. The bits on the right are barely visible at all, and the left ones seem to have got a bit smaller and have moved from the corners towards the middle..
Really not sure what to do, in all honesty I can probably put up with it in its current state, more so than I can put up with the hassle of getting another screen and being without a big screen for a few days anyway! (not to mention I might get a new screen with just as bad backlight) But might it get worse again?

im in exactly the same boat !

tbh when are we gona be staring at the screen when its black?

Its the Samsung 226BW panel lottery debacle all over again.

No it's not at all. All the panels are as described, they are all VA's and the few faults/features people are seeing are the same for all TFT's with the same type of panels. IIRC the samsung panel lottery was totally different panels in the same body but with the same model number.

Nobody is saying that there is a panel lottery and some are better/worse than others.

At the moment everyone is evaluating their screens to their own criteria with some people being more stringent than others but that is their right as they have to live with the panels at the end of the day.

I don't want this thread to turn into a kind of witch hunt for panel problems when at present it's very constructive.

I wouldn't have thought it would get worse if anything it should be more stable with use.

Yeh I know, I'm fine with it how it is at the moment - but a couple of days ago it was much worse and wouldn't be able to put up with that (was noticeable even when screen wasn't black, anything darker than navy blue and you could see it). Is it getting better or will it get bad again

Yeh that's what I would have thought - but when I first got it it was flawless, the fault developed within a day and now after a couple more days has lessened... but yeh it seems more likely it will get better / stay the same.

Hi guys,

Got my monitor 2 weeks ago - no dead pixels! I've left all the controls as is (contrast 50%, brightness 50% and 6500K) and calibrated it with Colorvision Spyder Elite. The picture change is subtle but significant. An excellent monitor for photo editing.

Ok now i am royally annoyed!! Had the RMA monitor for around 4-5 days and I just switched it on and there is a black line AGAIN!!! So looks like its going to be a thrid monitor for me. It was fine last night, is there anyway I might be able to get rid of the line?

Is the line in exactly the same place as it was on your old monitor?

From what I can see, it seems that the panel comes in varieties of V1, V2 etc. And each panel having its own spec (including one which is a TN panel.

If that is the case, and someone orders this panel, then technically speaking it is luck of the draw.

Unless OCUK check the batch shipments and investigate which panel types are installed in these monitors.

Actually didnt Gibbo mention that if there are any batch shipments of TN panels, he will send them straight back?

Man so many issues with this screen and the other PVA hyundia LCD, gotta think twice before leaping on these screens especially when my Samsunsg 24B 24" is faultless with no black light bleed and normal working good quality output.

Shame I cant fix the fact its a TN panel ;)

On the AUO model range page yes there is a TN panel in 24" but it's a M240UW04 and nobody has said that they have had one from OC or that Digimate have used one in any of the 24" models they've supplied to OC, all of the panels in the OC 24" are VA's.

From what has been posted the OC 24" has a M240UW01 panel but there are some different revisions of that panel V0 and V3.

I've got the panel spec pdf's from AUO for the V0 and the V3 M240UW01 panels and the only differences are (in the whole spec)

V0 has a quoted contrast ratio of 1000:1 and Luminance of 500cd/m2
V3 has a quoted contrast ratio of 800:1 and Luminance of 300cd/m2

But I've read that the quoted contrast figures for TFT's are usually optimistic anyway so I don't see it as being much of a difference.

Everything else looks the same, same panel part no. (it quotes both as 8 bit), same back-light unit, same pixel pitch, same response times etc, etc.

As according to the specs both panels are pretty much identical the Digimate probably do not differentiate between the two during production so that's why some people get the V0 and some the V3.

That's good to hear, so the 24B is a totally faultless model so if I was to search round the forums I wouldn't find a few people with say stuck pixels or a little backlight un-uniformity

There are not loads of issues with this panel, the vast majority of people are very happy, including me. There are a few people with issues (as with any other TFT) and they post more than the satisfied people as they are looking for more info on possible causes/remedies.

It seems you have a similar number of bands, around 16-17 per larger band.
They look softer than mine but it is hard to judge if it is camera shake artefact or if they are really softer.

Could you please tell me your LCD model and panel version?

The LCD model should be on the sticker directly visible behind the monitor.
something like L2442W or L2442WD

To see your panel version you would ideally need a light source on top of the lcd pointing downward through the vents.

By looking upwards through the vents near your dvi and vga connectors you shoud see inside a sticker with a model and version number.
something like "M240UW01" and a bit to the right a version number.
Typicall versions so far: V0 or V.3

Thus could you please post your model and version numbers? :)

You guys have good eye sight, think ive strained my eyes, trying to look at those details!

I don't think that one is better than the other really (v0 or v3) as there have been a few people with each with different problems but no more than any other TFT. As I posted there's minimal difference between the panels themselves so as long as you're happy with it enjoy :D

I can't even see my panel sticker, only a white thin strip label that reads S331-20070800029, 2nd part I assume is a date. Mine's a WD, says so on back of monitor and on the box, ordered the 18th, received the 19th. No dead/stuck pixels, no banding but backlight isn't too clever.
