I don't wish ill on anyone... but I can't see there being many condolences from the people from the surrounding areas, her decisions negatively affected so many people.

This is what many don't understand here. The North East is an absolute **** hole because of unemployment, at one time this area was an industrial powerhouse and there weren't enough people to fill all the available jobs at the shipyards and mines, nowadays the biggest area for employment in this area is call centres and even those are being outsourced weekly.

If maggie hadnt of been in the PM seat and it was someone else, do people think similar things wouldnt have been done? that the mining industry, for example, would have been just fine?

im curious.

Your BBC linkage

It certainly was as of 14:25 this afternoon several hours after the news had broke.

Probably took a while for Atlantic Quay to wonder how on earth to play it. It's only now been introduced with an Alex Salmond 'tributing' her line. When you delve a bit deeper it's more a thank you for delivering the Scottish Parliament off the back of her anti-Scottish policies.

Thatcher devastated Stoke On Trent, we were a mining and steel city (as well as Pottery) but something needed doing with the greedy Miners. I was working in a factory on about £75/week but my Miner mates were getting 'millionaires' wages and wanted more more more and would keep going on strike to get it. I know it sounds like jealousy but mining jobs were 'Family' jobs and you could only get in if you had family already there. When you're working class you should all be on the same steps of the ladder and it was quite hard to share your pub with greedy Miners. Something had to happen and she was the person to do it.

The sweeping ham-fisted approach to just close everything and put a generation of men out of work was not right...what the **** did she expect all those families and communities to survive on.....

Very interesting point of view and one that I haven't heard before, thanks.

Good, bad or indifferent her actions put this county on a course where virtually all the countries wealth was generated and channeled through London.

British industry was poorly managed but that was not the workings mans fault.
The mass closures, privitisations and hording of national wealth is unforgivable, and the negative effects are still being felt to this day...#financial meltdown that tax payers had to fix

And all you tubes getting weapy eyed and patriotic over the Falklands.....they clearly belong to ARGENTINA.

Is it coincidence that we gave Hong Kong back to China....must've wanted to keep China on our good side...but were obviously not scared or bothered about Argentina enough to give them those baron lumps of rock back

and P.S @ Theophany I did notice the edit where you removed that fact that you work for "one of the world largest pension fund yada yada yada type companies"

I'm not saying that you persoanlly aren't good at you job but organizations like yours have caused more hard times than miners ever did

You realise the Falkland islands were unclaimed when we colonised them?

No, didn't think.so.

"the enemy within".

An awful lot of enemies that Lady had.

Thatcher... The Iron Lady... even though we have our differences, I cant say I hate her... She just had capitalist view to deal with issues.. I respect her as an individual a woman in her time to achieve so much and have so much balls.

No wonder soviets called her Iron Lady... she deserved it.
