Batman Arkham Knight - Official Thread!

I'm surprised TB hasn't ripped this game to shreds yet.

The sad thing is that once most people have got refunds etc they probably just wont bother with a PC version in future projects. Too much hassle for the small number of sales. I just hope Rocksteady are fixing it rather than them iron galaxy muppets, might restore a bit of faith in them if they fix it properly.

arkham asylum and city have sold 2.5m copies each on steam. thats no small number of sales, everything is ported or build for pc these days because unless your game is called call of duty or assassin's creed, that's where the money is. don't underestimate our platform. steam summer sale saw 36m copies of games sold in two weeks.

Played for about 4 hours on my 290 and 2500K @ 1080p, apart from very minor stutters whilst going flat out in the bat mobile (my mechanical drive is causing this me thinks) the game runs fine, guess I'm in the minority.

Anyway the game itself so far has been solid, good story, good gameplay and great fight sequences.

Get used to it folks all the profit is on console and piracy is still rife on pc and devs know it, so they aren't going to out of their way to make decent pc ports or games.

Yeah. It could go either way. Either they polish games up real nice and sell a truck load on PC to glowing reviews, or they don't bother investing or even releasing on PC.

To be honest I'd be fine with either way over the current way.

A hole in the market will always be filled and if popular console games no longer being developed for PC is that hole who knows where this will lead to.

Oh dear. Also in this instance I have to say Nvidia are to blame slightly. Whats the point in promoting the game, having the game works tech in the game and then for the game to be a straight up terrible console port, with little to none PC optimization at all....

I thought PC Gaming was on the up lately. Even to point that multiplatform games sell more on PC than Xbox One, or was that just GTA and Konami?

It's not like it has to be PC vs consoles. How about PC vs PS4 or Xbox One, rather than both. it's not like it's only developed for two machines. Seems odd that PC is getting the shaft when it's pulling it's weight in unit sales more and more these days through legit downloadable stores.

- Get better performance:
Go to [...]\steamapps\common\Batman Arkham Knight\BMGame\Config and look for BmSystemSettings.ini (open with notepad)

1. Change bAllowD3D9MSAA=False to bAllowD3D9MSAA=True (This allows you to use MSAA with D3D9)

2. Change AllowD3D10=False to AllowD3D10=True (This allows you to enable D3D10 for better performance)

3. Change TextureResolution=1 to TextureResolution=2 (This allows you to change the texture resolution from Normal to High but somehow it keep changing back to normal I don't know why because in my case while looking at the options in-game the texture resolution is set on Normal and there is no other options (no high, no ultra, just nothing). But you can try.

4. Ingame decrease shadows to low or normal. No need to put it high, just in case to get more frames/s (who cares about shadows anyway ;/)

5. No solution yet for motion blur.

6. Turn off Bloom: Bloom=False

7. Turn off Reflections: Reflections=False

8. Change AllowOpenGL=False to AllowOpenGL=True (This allows you to use OpenGL for better performance)

9. FOV not available yet

10. Film grain removal:
Distortion=False
FilteredDistortion=False

So we're being pedantic now are we? You know what I meant.

We? :confused:

I'm not being pedantic, no. I'm stressing the fact that it isn't a port, because it's important to acknowledge that, firstly games aren't actually "ported", and secondly that because they aren't "ported" (ergo, transfered from one platform to another) that more criticism should be levied at the developers for getting it so wrong.

That's entirely the basis for my objection to the use "console port", because its name implies that a transfer of platforms happens, and that any shortcomings are because of the existence of consoles. Which is not the truth at all.

So no, I'm not being pedantic.

Gameworks is to blame a fair amount, as well as the developers. But Gameworks is toxic to the gaming industry.

Additionally, it isn't a console port, as games aren't ported from consoles. That isn't how development works. Take issue with the developers and nVidia for their Gameworks crap, it's got nothing to do with consoles.

Warner Bros has just announced that it has suspended future game sales of Batman: Arkham Knight for the PC. According to the publisher, this suspension is due to the current state of the PC version and will be lifted once it addresses the game’s issues to satisfy its quality standards

Shame they didnt have quality standards before the game shipped....:rolleyes:

well pc versions of big games lately seem badly ported the fact that they are console ports alone is bad no ?
If the main chunk of the profit is on console then it stands to reason all the focus will be on those versions and the pc an afterthought.

The actual fact is that "console ports" don't really exist, and games themselves typically aren't ported at all.

This is completely about poor development, and nothing to do with this mythical transition of games from consoles to PC.
