Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Not sure if linking a video with another word for poop is going to go down well with mods... I know they frown upon videos with certain words that are linked, but whether 'that' word is one of them, I can't say for sure. Just thought I'd best warn you in case the suspension hammer comes down. :p

Edit: Just got to the F word, so I'd just remove it now. It will only get pulled anyway, and you'll get a suspention.

Good video though, otherwise. :)

Ahhhhh, goddamn you mods!

I watched it last night and really wasn't impressed.

It felt badly paced, there were characters who had been shoehorned in for the sake of Justice League and effectively did nothing to further the plot, there were some completely necessary scenes that made little sense that were also just setting up Justice League but didn't really fit the film, quite a few plot holes, the CGI felt a bit OTT, soundtrack wasn't great... the list just goes on.

I think they've just tried to cram too much in to 1 film in a desperate attempt to set up Justice League as quickly as possible and cash in on the "Extended Movie Universe".

This. 100% this. With regards to soundtrack, who is Junkie XL anyway? :D

To elaborate on this (as we've been having a discussion in our office today :D )

Massive Spoiler alert
You could literally cut every single Wonder Woman scene, the intro with Batman's backstory (who needs it? It's only 4 years since the end of the DK trilogy!) and the dream sequence and it would have literally no impact on the story at all. If anything it'd give more screen time for the horrendously underused Doomsday.

If anything the Knightmare sequence actually detracts from the plot. I'm sure it'll all become clear with the next couple of films but as it stands it left me a bit "WTF" and not really knowing what was going on.

The bits where Diana found the videos of the other JL members just didn't fit and felt awkward and that was pretty much her only actual impact on the storyline. Having her drop in mid-fight at exactly the right time to save Batman with a cheesy bit of music was so disappointing.

And in cramming so much in they missed out on elaborating on the plot points they did open up -
How does Lex know Superman's identity?
What happens with Superman after the incident at the Senate?
If Lex can work out who Superman is why not Batman?
Why are you suddenly best friends with someone you want to kill because you mum has the same name?

Plus... JUST FLY THE DAMNED BATPLANE BACK TO GOTHAM TO FETCH THE SPEAR!!

Lex finds out which Specsavers Clark Kent goes to and notices he doesnt have corrective lenses - with the power of MS paint he doctors an image of CK and finds out hes Superman.
Actually Lex gets access to the Kryptonian ship and learns of their history and so who Superman/Kal-El is.
ps3ud0

I lol'd at the many wonders of spoilers in spoilers :D

I still think that they made a lot of lazy choices in some of these areas (see previous comment about emails as character intros). And indeed in this instance too. 'Oh he has access to the Kryptonian ship so he MUST know who Superman is'. Yeah, that'd be OK, if it wasn't just a plot device to skip over anything that could possibly be interesting...

Also, I kinda miss secret identities and the no killing rule. :'( Maybe I'm just a classic Batman/ Superman fan boy.

Some have argued that this version of Superman and Batman are more akin to certain alternative world stories or future stories and that that justifies their motives. There's no doubt in my mind that they have been heavily inspired by them. But what I find makes these alternative stories interesting comes from the comparison between what we know and why the characters have made these new, different choices.

In the film universe I think it's risky to start with such a departure because people will just assume (as I do) that this is not a deconstruction of the genre but, in fact, Zack Snyder and the writers just don't understand the characters that they are trying to portray at all... :(

(Did anybody see Snyder's attempts at justifying why Batman kills? Le sigh)

If Zack Snyder remains to be the gatekeeper of the DCCU we are kinda ****ed. Id rather have Singer :p

ps3ud0

I think had Singer been given the chance to make a sequel to Returns, he would have done a better job. He was too concerned with trying to make a film that was homage to Reeve's Superman, rather than being it's own film. For all it's faults though, it had some good moments. It had heart, something that Man of Steel lacked. MoS was cold and from my point of view, left me feeling like I really would not have cared had Superman been killed by Zod and his goons.

Making a good Superman film, seems as though it's not an easy thing to do. Returns had heart but had faults and lacked action. MoS had the comic book action people crave, but had different faults and was cold. Somewhere in the middle of those two, lies potentially a great Superman film.

Well, i liked it quite a lot. WW was the highlight..what an entrance!

Bit slow in places, but a solid 7/10 if ever there was one!

Note: quite a few things that made no sense to me without a bit of post-film reading up.

I would give it 4/10

I have a few issues with the movie.
I think they squeezed in too much but did not give anything the proper time needed,
I hated how they made Lex, they should have left him how he was in the comics, instead someone had the idea of turning in into a cross between zuckerberg and the movie riddler. im not even sure why they wanted doomsday (which was a CGI mess) in the movie,

I think they should have has a single story to focus on batman and superman or batman, superman and Lex Luther in the background (with a strong personality), but if it had to be this it could have been better if it was a 2 part movie.

I dont like the choice for the flash.

I was all for a Zuckerberg-like Lex Luthor - thats what I expected when he was cast - superiority complex with a touch of social awkwardness and a 'cross me and Ill cut you' attitude...

Was surprised what we got was just maniacal with religious overtones

ps3ud0

What I don't get is why didn't Superman say 'I need your help to save my mother' or 'Lex has my mom' as the very first thing he said. But that would be sensible and take away the fight.

But you do get it, because you said, 'but that would be sensible and take away the fight.'

When it comes to blockbuster films, it's do first, ask questions later. :p

All the bad taken out of context imo when you consider every superman movie before Man of steel.
