Ive played bf2 since it was released, for some reason it never got beaten.

Higher view distance upto like 2000m comes in various mods for bf2. The one I play has it and handheld AA rockets plus you can build up mortars, TOW missiles, 50 cal guns or general destructible bunkers. Bf2 had destruction in its engine too

BC2 I got in the latest sale, I played bc1 on the 360 too. Its ok, arcade deathmatch style grenade spam throwaway gameplay. I believe they will improve on bc2 so in that way Im optimistic, will it need 6 cores though

I did own BF1942 but I was quite young and bought it thinking it would like Allied Assault. Also I had to wait 3-4 months before I got a graphics card to play it (crappy Rage 32mb wouldn't even work). Even then I didn't have internet in my room so I just never really played it.

I can't complain about the planes too much as I was an enourmous nade ho on Karkard Infantry only on BF2.

BF2 was brilliant, it really was, but that was 2005 and BC2 in 2010 has taken over it for me.
I am expecting BF3 to be 40 vs 40 with bigger-than-BF2-maps and destructable buildings.

All BF3 really needs to be is BF2 crossed with BC2 with PC standard graphics.

Also I am level 40 of 50 on BC2. BF2 I could play daily for 10 years and not be top rank. BF3 needs a very high ranking system that takes years to max out.

Battlefield 1942 had some nice stuff that wasn't included in bf2. It had a nice artillery system where players manned mobile or static artillery pieces, and were given spotting co-ordinates by the snipers. It also had naval warfare: on the original version of Wake Island you could pilot the aircraft carrier, and there were battleships and submarines you could use as well.

^^ Thats what Im referring to, they slimming it down every time they do a new version.

You can laser tag moving targets in some mods for bf2. The tag is then picked up by jdam launched missiles from helicopter or jet. Mortars are manually guided also, a spotter helps

They could do it 5 years ago, they could do it now just not sure they want to

How this turns out will make or break pc gaming for me.

A bit melodramatic don't you think?

The simple fact that you are clearly very interested in this game being good suggests that you like PC gaming. A lot. I very much doubt you'll hang up your mouse over this. Do you really want to drag yourself over to the darkside and forsake PC gaming in favour of playing terrible versions of games with kids and chavs.

There'll always be a good enough reason to stay with the PC.

Don't worry. The first time some random American 12 year old calls him a 'faggot' on Xbox Live he'll come running back!

I have little faith that this will be the game I want it to be. Every generation of battlefield seems to dumb it down. For example BF1942 had some insanely fun naval battles, and naval units were removed from BF2, then in BF2142 they dumbed down the class system by removing a class and splitting the same stuff over fewer classes. BF:BC2 same again, they screwed with the classes a little and its not too bad now but could be better, and they removed fast air.

I know that some people like maps like Karkand where it is just infantry and land vehicles, but I also like wide open maps with tanks, helicopters, jets (although to a lesser degree) and naval units. If things continue the way they are BF:3 will be even more like an arcade game than a decent large scale FPS, proberly have only 3 classes and no vehicles or just ground vehicles, and small maps for 16v16 max players.

Hopefully I'm wrong, and with a bit of luck they will bring out a game like a modern BF1942.

:D

I gotta agree that saying this will make or break pc gaming is pretty moronic if I'm honest.

You really should tone down any hype you have on the Battlefield 3, its almost considered as this will be what the PC has best to offer, it wont. Even if its being designed for PC at foremost it still going to be ported over and will still mean limitations will be in the PC version due do it.

I would be willing to place money that Battlefield 3 will just be more of the same of the previous BF titles and still be less then what BF1942 had. Not necessarily a bad thing, but FPS shooters hasn't exactly been very innovating or fresh for years now.

looks to be modern time

" Dice sets its sites on COD " if BF3 resembles COD in anyway it's an instant fail, looks like the PC version will be console influenced similar to BC2, for shame.

Jumping the gun I see.
Why not wait until you've at least seen some footage of the game, or a hands on preview perhaps before proclaiming the PC version is awful?

Going after COD is an obvious target, since it is the single biggest competing franchise by far. It doesn't mean in any way that BF3 will be COD with tanks and jets.

Thought I'd post this as I don't think anyone has.

There comes a time when we as a studio have to choose where to best put our efforts. At DICE we’re dedicated to taking care of our products after launch, and also hell bent on building new, innovative and high quality games.

In my day to day work, I look at our release schedule and the studio’s capacity, weighing them against our wild ambitions to create awesomeness. I often need to make hard calls regarding where we put the studio’s focus. Part of the challenge is to balance work on the new against the already shipped, prioritizing the amount of energy spent on the known franchises and the time spent on developing something entirely new.

This is one of those cross roads where I need to make a hard decision. While we’ll continue supporting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and previous games, it’s time to look ahead to the next giant leap for DICE – the release of Battlefield 3, powered by the mighty Frostbite 2 engine. Our goal is crystal clear: we’re going to build the best Battlefield game ever, and we’ll do whatever it takes to make this the biggest launch in DICE’s history.

We know some of you eagerly have been awaiting Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught on PC. I’m sad to say that these two titles are now officially cancelled. Instead, our talented teams will focus on delivering the greatest possible gaming experience in our next behemoth release. We’re confident this will lead to an even better experience in Battlefield 3, not only on PC, but on all platforms.

For an idea of what that means, watch this space for some exciting news I think you’ll like.

Best regards,
Karl Magnus Troedsson
General Manager, DICE

Dice's track record since BF2 has been shocking, it's clear they are under the influence of EA to push generic crap out the door for consoles first PC second, will be the same with BF3. I will see what they will reveal tomorrow but already the signs do not look good with a single player story mode announced for BF3.

It may well be awful, but you might as well wait until we know some details of the game before going for that :p

I reckon they could bring out a half decent version on the PC, especially given the Twitter barrage of 'PC version is best lololol' from the BF3 developers (so likely half as good as they proclaim). Looking back to BC2, it seemed they said the PC version would be a true PC game a few times, and gave up once they announced the server browser, as PC gamers were so overwhelming distracted by that.
