Thanks guys. If you could link the servers you frequent then I shall jump on with you. Really not a fan of the server browser in honesty!

Im very fussy when it comes to what servers i like and slowly but surely they are becoming very thin on the ground,i generally hate 64 players so try to stick to 24/32 and like to have a mix of all the CQ DLC but most of these multi DLC servers add rush into the mix which i cant stand either and now 99% of the AM servers have gone and been replaced by the helo raping EG maps :(

i'm an average player, so hopefully some decent ones will offer clearer advice, but from what i've picked up so far :

1) stop running around for starters :D, if your running chances of aiming/shooting accurately are stuffed, try to move slowly, keep an eye on your mini map for enemies.

also if you come face to face with an enemy don't try and scope them, as the delay is likely to get you killed :(.

2) unless someone has there back to you assume they have spotted you and scoped onto you, so dont try to shoot it out, try and work another position.

3) if you see sniper scope glint or laser site glare HIDE.

4) if you peak round a corner and get shot at dont repeak straight away cos they more than likely have you lined up for a kill next time you pop your head out.

5) settings in the game (the network slider, better set as close to the left as it can go as from what i've read it helps spot people quicker).

6) have you got the game running at 60fps constant, if it drops to much turn off graphics settings etc to get it as close as you can.

7) even if your "hidden" behind a corner remember a part of your body might be sticking out, specially your head if your prone or crouched, so people can pick you off.

8) pick a weapon and stick to it and get use, unless you have a problem with it run as a medic so at least you can heal yourself.

9) check out youtube, some useful guides on there that might help.

hopefully people will clear up any bad advice i might have offered, apologies for that :).

Most important thing in bold. Also, you might benefit from using the large mini-map (set to medium coverage) as it will give you way more info about what's going on on the map and makes it easier for you to see, because the normal minimap is tiny.

Another important tip: set Afterburner to cap at 59FPS and have v-sync ON. So long as you can maintain 59FPS (turn down settings if you need to) you shouldn't get any input lag. All other configurations give input lag.

Also, best guns in each class:

Assault: AUG, M16A3
Engi: SG553
Supp: M27 (???)
Wesley: M98

Shotty: DAO
PDW: AS Val
Pistol: G18 Supp.

I love the AUG but it is not better than either the AEK or 416.

The M4A1 is still the king of the Engi class for all round performance with the ACW-R for longer ranges and the M-Tar for short range engagements.

The best support guns are either the M27 / L86 for mobility or 240B / PKP for bipod heroes.

M98 is still the king of bush shaggers

+1 and excellently put, especially the last line :D

Dunno, I can't get on with the M4A1. I prefer the G36C and the ACW-R is good, but thay have made it so that it's deficencies are significant.

It's accurate, but goes through a clip like lightning, meaning you get caught out reloading a lot. (Let me rephrase that. 'I' get caught out reloading a lot)

Not a fan of Nebandian flats. Time after time I see tanks sitting in their spawn shooting out. The other maps are quite good fun though.

Nor me. It migh be alright in a small TDM, but its rubbish on CQ.

CTF can be alright but its pretty hard to capture the flag though as the flag points are generally pretty well defended. I CTF works better on servers with 32 or less people on them.

I only just realised how many maps BF3 has! That is pretty impressive considering the size of the maps and the amount of game modes they work with :D Good on Dice!

What's the benefit of the m98 vs l96m

M98 uses .338 Lapua Magnum round vs 7.62mm of the L96.

It has further reach due to less bullet drop and also does more damage. They both need a headshot to one hit kill, and will both kill with one shot to the upper chest area up close, but if the opponent is already damaged the m98 is more likely to one hit kill.

The M98 does 95 dmg vs 80 of the L96.

Both do 59 damage at extreme range but the M98's bullet is 650m/s vs 540m/s of the L96 so the bullet travels faster, has less drop, and thus less distance needed to lead your target.

The downside is a smaller mag size (it only holds 5 bullets) and has a longer short reload (ie the reload when you still have at least 1 bullet left in the chamber)

The L96 makes a much better rifle if you want to play the aggresive sniper up close. If you want to go sit on a hill somewhere with your SOFLAM and harass attackers on rush, the M98 is the better rifle.

Also worth a look is the JNG-90 which is very similar to the L96.

Out of all the bolt guns, i prefer the M40A5. But if you want a semi auto sniper rifle that shoots as flat as the M98B, the M39 is worth a look.

AEK and 416 feel like pea shooters though, can't be doing with them :D

Agree with most else. Especially regarding the L86. Forgot about that gun.

I have just started using the AEK and I quite like it :) other than that I always use M16A3 or M416/AS VAL if silenced.

For sniping, rightly or wrongly, I have always preferred the SV98 for some reason.
